I live in Barcelona and have lived in Raval twice. It can be dirty and smelly, but it also has a great vibe 😀 The robberies and narcopisos have got worse, but this has happened in other parts of the city too. If you walk around Raval like a tourist, with a map or stuck to your fone, you will attract the wrong type of attention, as you would in parts of many worldwide cities. I am from London, a tall, blond girl, who obviously looks like a tourist, but I still go to Raval and don't get any trouble. I love the food shops, as they have different fruits and vegetables and in general much more variety than other parts of the city. It has a charm which other barrios do not. Raval is also not the most dangerous part of Barcelona, but probably the most dangerous part of the city center (La Mina is dangerous and further out). Don't be scared to visit, just be smart!🤩

Thanks for sharing your experience! I’ve been to El Raval quite a few times and nothing has ever happened to me. I think you have to take care of your things but besides that you should be fine. For me, this wouldn’t be a place where I’d like to live in though but I know there are a lot of people who like the vibe and the vibrant area. It always depends on personal preferences I guess :)

Ravel is cool no problem just keep moving 😂most criminals don't do it on there own doorstep they move to do crime in other parts of the city where theres more tourists born is terrible at the moment so it can be anywhere but Raval let's hope this will change but for me still a very safe city in comparison to other European city's✌️🐸👌

I've visited Barcelona many times before and currently living here for a few months - in Eixample - which is a beautiful and very safe part of town. Raval is gritty and ugly by comparison. The "crime" is centered around Raval because that's where the poorer/non-native Spanish live. I have never had a problem there, and my biggest issue is the constant offer of drugs on every street corner. It gets annoying. Common sense and nothing will happen to you. Any pickpocketing or bag grabbing is always opportunistic - and usually the victim is a naive tourist. If you are out at night, just have at least one friend with you. Even then, it's fine. Common sense again. I'm from London and actually laugh when I hear Barcelona is "dangerous" or "now has a lot of crime". It is one of the SAFEST cities I have stayed in, and I've been all around the world on multiple continents.

Thanks a lot for sharing your personal experiences and opinion. I’ve been to El Raval quite often and have always been fine. I think it’s important to know that you should take care of your things though. I’ve seen quite a few robberies happening already. Where would you say is the most dangerous district of London? Or why is it more dangerous?
@liquid_metal
@liquid_metal 19 күн бұрын
@@aventuralina You are correct and ultimately these pickpockets/robbers target vulnerable people, unless it's opportunistic. I know people who have had their phone stolen on a night out, but the issue was they were completely inebriated - thus vulnerable. Were they not drunk, they would still have their phone. There isn't necessarily a "dangerous" district of London because you can be mugged in broad daylight in Chelsea, surrounded by properties worth tens of millions of pounds. It's more the sheer scale of London and the population density. You could be out on a night out near to Oxford Circus and be mugged in the early hours, despite it seemingly a "busy" area. Wearing luxury watches is foolish, where gangs have members working in hotels, restaurants, etc as the "spotter" for the victim wearing the watch. The gang is tipped off and then when that person leaves the venue... People have been murdered for their luxury watches in London. Knife crime is a problem. S*x crime is also becoming a bigger issue there, though it is not the locals who are committing the crime. Walking around alone at night for a woman is potentially risky. Gangs are also a big issue in the city, from serious Albanian mafia, to the "hood rats" fighting over territory that ultimately allows them to deal drugs - c*caine being a major one. It is somewhat ironic that the middle-classes who are most likely to buy that drug are the ones who are ultimately paying to make their streets unsafe. Bicycle theft is also a big thing, car theft is arguably even worse. The latter is also highly organised where Range Rovers are major target. The gangs have cracked wireless key entry encryption, so it's not a matter if, but when your RR gets stolen. The car is driven a short distance away and parked for a few days. If the owner hasn't found it, the thief knows there is no tracking device, and off the car goes to Africa, Middle East, etc. Burglary is also prevalent, especially in wealthy areas. Now compare to Barcelona! The city is TAME in comparison to an amusing level. It's one of the safest big cities I've ever lived in!

I believe that all cities have districts with problems. In my hometown Hamburg it is exactly the same. In El Raval it’s a bit special I think because this is a very touristic district. I always thought it is a very vibrant, multicultural and interesting district despite its problems.

I love Barcelona. Want to visit it again and again. Observed that Spanish people are very nice and caring. Faced immigrant pick-pocket group. They dropped a cell phone between my legs while boarding a train. With battery lid and phone separate. While phone dropping gang member started shouting to save the phone while I was just a step in the door with my full attention at the situation the member behind me tried to pull my wallet from my back pocket which I felt and grabbed it. Before the doors shut all the gang members jumped out.

But walking into the narrow streets of the Gothic Quarters at night everything was full of pee and it stank really bad. Meantime your beloved Muslims are also driving BMW's into Magdeburg?

@ true. But it is also not fair to generalise people just because of their religion. Remember no matter which religion or nationality: there is a minority that is bad (in all countries and religions ☝🏼) and shows up in the news because they make a lot of noise. But the good people, which would be the majority, never make the headlines.
