I am a cellist and I visited Vienna in the 1980s. I totally agree with you. I generally don't like big cities, but have said since my visit there, that its my favorite city for all the reasons you mention.

Vienna reminds me of my younger years, living there and being dragged off on weekends to some concert hall or another. Years later, as an older adult revisiting the city, gave me a much better perspective of the community at large. It is time to plan another Grand Tour and relearn the various dialects of the area to be able to get around better. Thanks for all of your efforts in this posting.

It is amazing in this day of technological chaos that there is still a haven of the old world resting in its historical aura. One can roam the streets of this old town and forget the modern world, dreaming of a time when the waltz was king and the people danced with carefree delight.

You must not have visited Europe yet. There are literally places like this all over the continent. You have to go more than once to see anything. Two weeks in France, you might see a small fraction of the country. Pick a region, and explore. Come back another time and pick another region.

Nice capsule history of the Habsburgs and the music of Vienna! Don't underrate yourself; this is better than the stuff we see on PBS here in the States. Since you mentioned Stainer, maybe you can devote a future video to his forms and archings, and why the violins are no longer used by modern soloists. I have a couple of violins on his model and I find them easier to play (for a rank amateur more devoted to repairs) than Strad models.

On a video on bridge placement, you noted the F hole marks are not always in the proper place. It that case where do you place the bridge? Also what vibrating length from nut to front of the bridge do you use in mm?
