I agree, I watch the normal trick and think it is pretty cool, I know there is some misdirection going on but just enjoy the show. The exposed trick is more interesting because it reveals the huge amount of skill required to perform it and the level of planning that goes in to make it work. What looks like a relatively simple trick is shown to be much more complicated than I realised. The exposed trick definitely got extra views from me as you need to see it at least twice to appreciate everything that is going on.

Exposure doesn't change the skill required to do it. I've literally tried to follow a trick of yours frame by frame on 0.25 speed and can't tell how anything is done. If I knew how they were done, it would still impress me because of how smooth the movements are and how it straight up looks like magic. You're awesome dude!

There are definitely some things that may just come off as cheap if they were exposed. But a cups and balls routine like yours, or "Blast Off", for example, take so much skill and precision that anyone should be impressed. I like how you gave the choice on the other platforms. I would've still watched both. ;-) Personally, I switch from "trying to figure out the puzzle", to "just enjoying the trick" pretty easily. Even in the exposed version, at some point I just had ta let go... The viewers know what's happening, but they still can't quite follow it. Thanks man!

I think that we have reached a point with magic where people understand that what they are seeing simply requires training, practice and skills- they know it is not real "magic." By "exposing" it, you are actually showing what those training, practice and skills are, and that is far more impressive to the people watching. It is, in a sense, treating people as intelligent rather than as rubes. I have seen magic that has left a sour taste in my mouth, but the best magic comes from those who show the audience respect. Which you do so well.

I think there is an element of personal challenge to it too. I know that I like watching magic tricks to try and sus out how the magician is doing it! I also love when I'm caught completely off guard, like I was by the melon in the last video, but I primarially approach it to see if I can catch the tricks.

The thing I love about cups and balls is that about 90% of the magic is actually going on inside the spec's head. There are no gimmicks, and not that much even in sleights, which is what makes it so fun to watch with clear cups because the effect isn't really about hiding things under cups, it's about the magician preventing the spec from seeing what is right before their eyes.

I follow because of the variety of content. I imagine your viewer base is quite varied across each platform. Younger and older viewers, fellow practitioners and just average spectators. So even if you occasionally post something I don't care as much for I figure it is appreciated by other parts of your audience and I'm good with it. You still put out plenty to maintain my attention, especially with the 365 challenge. I imagine it's a lot to envision, film and produce daily videos so I respect every bit of it. Thanks for all the content.

I think i have finally figured out what you do for the "Sig Nature" trick, i was always stumped when you use the Altoids tin. But your level of sleight of hand is absolutely incredible and that's what i appreciate the most out of your magic. Now that i think i know how you do the trick, it's almost like i'm enjoying the show on your side of the stage as opposed to the audience's side. I think it makes the trick even more enjoyable to watch now.

Its a mix of factors. The cup trick has been done in huge ammount of variaties, maybe people 'seen it enough already'. But even if you watch the clear cup one, it may show u how its done and thats the stuff you wanna know, but personaly i prefer the clear one because i already know mostly how its done, but i just admire the insane skills you need to even pull it off. Like the card trick you show afterwards, the first 'flip it over' and the later 'put it on the table', i know how they are done but even watching them at slower speed, your movements are so smooth its very hard to notice.

I personally enjoyed seeing the trick performed exposed because it makes me appreciate the skill & craft of it. Even exposed, it was hard to see it happen & my favorite thing is when I know it’s happening & the artist is 2 or 3 steps ahead. So while I’m trying to see the 1st setup, I’ve already missed the 2nd & 3rd setups. In the end, I’m even more impressed & those big reveals looker even bigger when I know how much work went into practicing to get to a level where it looks so flawless.

I , honestly never really liked that control from books and drawings, until Jason Maher came into play :P You are still a smooth criminal! Now, the cups and balls, I liked the clear cup routine when Pen and Teller did it for the first time (?) simply because it is a testimony of their combined power to misdirect it was wonderful. Now, I did see your routine and I can say something similar, it shows how light fingered you are and how good is a professional magician's misdirection skills. I say that, simply because I am a social magician and I view magic differently, I do enjoy the regular cups and balls more. Now so long ago, couple of weeks I was looking at one of your street performance doing cups and balls on a really rough street. Oranges under the cups and a melon a yellow melon under your hat! It was awesome! Especially because you had a couple of people looking at a well, bad angle a couple of times you mentioned when you did the wand vanish. Wand, right... when you do the cups and balls the ball vanish you do with the help of the wand is so beautiful to see! I had to re-watch that part a couple of times because it is so smooth and quick! I always wanted to learn that, never really got to do it. Simply because I have no wand and I don't really do the cups and balls. I think I did it only once, to be honest, to an actual person I mean :P

I like both of them. It's very enjoyable watching a magic trick and for a brief moment questioning reality, and being amazed at how real it looks. But I also like behind the scenes/exposed magic tricks. But that's a different feeling, that feels more like; aha, so that's how it's done, that's so clever.

The occasional reveal video is neat and I loved it yesterday, but I agree that doing it for every trick wouldn't be as fun. Still, that you could make it look that smooth even with the clear cups is amazing. Perhaps save the exposed versions for those tricks where they're still impressive even if the audience sees everything? Also, that trick today was fantastic. I think you've done a tutorial on one or two aspects of it, so when you showed the top two cards at once, it proved you were doing something fancier than you'd exposed or explained so far.

I grew up watching the Masked Magician and Penn & Teller and there was a time in my life where I wanted to know exactly how every trick was done. After the internet became more of a standard part of life I learned a lot about card tricks, slight of hand, and various other tricks but the more I learned the more I found myself not so concerned about how the trick was done but appreciating more how the trick was preformed. Thats a long way of saying I enjoy pretty much all aspects of magic. I love seeing tricks that I don't know everything about I love seeing tricks that I've seen a hundred different ways preformed well, even if I know everything that is happening I love seeing those tricks being showcased in a way that lets me appreciate what I have seen a hundred times even more I personally enjoy seeing how the smaller tricks are done more. In my opinion there is a great deal more personal skill on display with close up street magic than with the large stage productions and to me that is far more entertaining well after you know how its done. Cheers! 💚

I dont think just because it has more view doesn't mean it's better than the original one. I think the reason it has so many views is because people rewatch it to understand how you did it...and i know i did. Also I'm starting to worry if you have enough magic tricks in store for the whole 365 days seeing how you just give so many tricks with just a single day. You're too amazing man

That was a cool trick. I'm okay with some tricks being exposed but sometimes that takes the mystery and fun out of the trick. That said, I once saw a magic act, probably about 30 years ago or so, but the trick stuck with me. He had an audience member sign a card and put it back in the deck. He then put a rubber band on the deck and somehow, shot the card up to the ceiling of the auditorium, probably a good 30 feet or more up, where the card stuck. And stayed there...for well over 15 years. Eventually it was removed, but whenever I saw the card stuck to the ceiling, it reminded me of the trick that I though was outstanding, but I still can't figure out how it was done.

Jason, I have some ideas for more interesting things you could keep in your emergency box instead of the plunger: 1 a Chapstick. They look kinda like a magic wand, they make sense as something to just keep with you (I always do because my lips chap easily) AND you can do cigarette type magic with them and thimble magic with the caps (if your fingers can fit into them). 2 a crystal or a piece of fool's gold from a rock shop. Small ones don't cost much and a lot of people think they have magic powers for real. 3 a champagne popper. These are like Christmas crackers except they look like tiny champagne bottles. They are often sold for New Years parties. Pop the popper to celebrate the finale of your trick.

I think both sides complement one another. You first experience that sense of wonder magic is so famous for, then you get to appreciate the sheer artistry that goes into creating that experience. That being said, I do think there are tricks that are significantly lower in effort and have to rely on keeping things secret more than others. I also believe the actual showmanship to be a very big deal. At the end of the day, it's all about the entertainment people are getting out of it. This goes for exposing tricks as well. Needless to say, your performances were absolutely awesome. Thank you

Signed cards in your hand (obviously), but the way it's done is the emergency use only thing has a magnet around it's edge and a hinge under neath and when you flip over the case it looks like it falls out but really just snaps onto the case and has emergency use only printed on the opposite side. Really great trick, you are incredibly skilled. The extras in the case are just to disguise the card not actually falling out. This is preformed flawlessly

I'm not sure it was the exposure so much as people wanting to know if they could catch half of the stuff you were doing even with it out in the open. At this point, everyone knows(or should know) the cups and balls trick and yours is just top notch, even when its all laid bare. I showed my son the cups and balls trick a few months ago and when he got frustrated I explained how it worked and he was still mystified. So cups and balls is one of those outliers, I feel, where exposing it doesn't hurt the trick.

Lived in LA most my life and was privileged to meet we'll start with the basics. Mike Caveny, Butler Butler, dai Vernon should have been first but alas... I understand not wanting to expose the stuff. I'm 32, I'm a total atheist, and I have a math degree. I am essentially incapable of believing in magic (and that's why I like the name magic TRICK) because I know you're not doing anything that's unexplained by the laws of physics. You're entertaining me with my own distractability, so to speak. That still requires a ton of skill to perform it correctly and in an entertaining way, and that's what I appreciate in a magic trick. Like in the cups and balls trick, at the end of the trick, I just *rationally know* you've shoved a melon under the hat at some point, but the fact that you do it in front of my eyes, in real time, without me catching when and how, that's just great fun. Either way, keep going. I like your shorts popping up in my feed when I swipe through them while bored in my train commutes throughout the week :)

Great trick, I think I'm reasonable sure how you did most of it. I love trying out and learning tricks, but sometimes the exposure doesn't actually give away the real secret, but because as much as try and copy some of your moves I fail - the real secret is the years of practice required!! - for example the victoria control, I can do the riffle no problem and I can insert the card and out jog it enough to press with my pinky, but my fingers are normally so dry and smooth I have almost no grip, and the break in the deck makes the riffle really clunky! so despite knowing exactly 'how to' do it and being able to do most of the moves, I still can't actually do that control! ( pretty sure no amount of practice is going to make my pinky more grippy :( )

That card control is wonderful. I couldn't track all of it, a few bits I never seen before and couldn't filter out the misdirection entirely, but I did note you were using what looked to be a 9 of diamonds quite a bit to cover up your marked card. Honestly the amount of false shuffling there was a wonderfully classic but of showmanship. If I had to say anything, you need to rotate out the top and bottom of your deck more. It was a bit noticeable in that routine that the same few cards kept appearing. As for revealing magic. I think exposing the trick only strips away at most the illusion. It doesn't strip away the skill involved.

One of the reasons why I love magic tricks is that I'm always breaking my head to find out how it's done. It's part of the whole thing imo. The magic is the first part, the "how" is the second. That's why I like tutorials and reveals. I'm still trying to figure out how the Jason guy (here on KZbin) can track cards after a casino wash for example 😂

I think the exposed cups is just more amazing, because it's still just simply an amazing trick...seeing everything somehow makes it more impressive, not less. I'm still left in a similar sense of awe. And instead of it seeming like special cups or balls, I realize it's really incredible sleight of hand.

Dude, other than a magician, you are a scientist. You got an hypothesis and you made an experiment with data backing it up. Sweet routine also :-)

It's not the CARD that is ambitious, it's the amount of practice and skill demonstrated that is ambitious!

I personally like to see how tricks are performed. Admitadly I'm obsessive when it comes to understanding how things work and use my sore time to learn physics and quantum mechanics. I'm some respects I gain a greater appreciation on seeing how a trick is done as the techniques used are hidden. Sleight of hand tricks are not simple things to perform. When it's unknown I can't appreciate those trade secrets, but seeing them allows me to marvel on those skills. I already knew how the cup and balls trick was done. I don't think that particular trick is at the top end of your skill set. Yet it was remarkable to see how fluid and flawless you were able to perform it. Yes seeing how a trick is done removes some of the magic but it also gives the skills you've mastered a chance to be admired.

I enjoy slight of hand more after i know how its done. Theres no way to know how much skill goes into the routine until you know how its done. To know how its done and to not be able to spot the slight of hand is amazing to me. Its not just the skill of slight of hand its the quality of the routine as well.

Smooth, I like to know how they're done because I appreciate your handwork, but then again I don't want to know how everything is done.

The exposure video didn't change a thing. It's still amazing because of your skills but most importantly you always subvert my expectations by ramping it up again and again.

The thing about magic is that we ALL know it's "just a trick." Anyone can learn how to do a fancy shuffle and find a card, but it takes real skill to sell the trick. Jason is an excellent magician, but above all else he's an entertainer.

That trick was awesome. I love seeing how it’s done. It many times involves hours or days or weeks of fabrication which is impressive. Also the slight of hand and misdirection and illusions I find it all fascinating

I personally think that learning a bit of magic can make the experience even better. But if you always try to figure out it you don't let any space for the wonder that made you love magic in the first place

I really like the double lifting magic variation :) For "cups and balls". Funny... This old school magic in Bulgaria... Some "people" practically use this to steal money from people. I think about the situation like this: Magic is only great when used for fun, not theft
