I’ll never follow or respect a “teacher” who would never put same amount of effort in one student compared to their favorites. Respect is not a one way street. Thanks for sharing this story opti.

there are actually studies showing female teachers grade more harshly on male students, when the work had no name the same papers would get graded better and pretty much because they favor the girl students

My elementary school had an infamous music teacher. This woman wrecked about three generations worth of children from ever engaging in music because of just how evil she was. She was called Dr. Evil by practically everyone (her actual last name did start with an E and did have two syllables, so the name doubly fit; she had a doctorate in music too). She was so arrogant that she bragged about her daughter winning some national award for whistling the ABC song every chance she could. Honestly, there’s nothing incredible about that, but to little first graders (the earliest grade you started taking her class weekly), this was something to aspire to… One very notable aspect of Dr. Evil’s character was her love of placing innocent children into the corners of her class for the slightest infractions. I remember being in the first grade on the very day she introduced us all to the xylophones. She emphasized that we were to hit the xylophones in the middle, not the edges. I was placed in front of a glockenspiel, which made me happy because I thought the instrument sounded the prettiest. Unfortunately, I accidentally dropped the stick out of my left hand and it tapped the edge. Instead of articulating the importance of holding the sticks tighter, she asked me in the most condescending voice that I can still hear over 20 years later: “Where did I tell you to tap the xylophones?” I answered meekly, knowing my fate because the legends of Dr. Evil were already passed onto me: “In the middle…” Then she nodded and said, “Go to the corner.” Every kid in my class watched me go. There was no making fun, no laughing, no nothing. Because every kid knew that they would have their day in the corner… On another tangent from the first grade, one of the songs Dr. Evil chose for us to sing in our concert was ‘Sing’ by the Carpenters. Karen Carpenter has been my favorite singer since I was two (in 1994, over ten years after she died), so I was so happy to sing this song and knew the lyrics. She even played the song for the class. I figured that she would like me a little more knowing that I had a love for oldies music despite being a 90’s kid, but that didn’t happen. She continued her hating streak every single year… In the fourth grade, Dr. Evil started making us meditate before we began our lessons. She would make us breathe deeply, make us say weird phrases, and calmly demand that we transcend into different animals walking along a desert. This made no sense. My twin sister (who was equally hated) and I are Baptist Born Again Christians (freedom of religion; please respect this) and do not believe in meditation or any behavior that seemed like summoning demons. My mom complained and the principal and vice principal (who sided with Dr. Evil) finally relented and had us stay in the hallway until the meditation ritual was done. The agreement was that she or another student was supposed to let us back into the classroom when the meditating was over. However, this was immediately violated and the entire lesson finished with us just sitting in the hallway. No one came out to get us. Her excuse was that we should have been able to hear instruments playing as an assertion that the meditation was over, but the thing was, her classroom was designed to be soundproof so as to not disturb the adjacent classes. We ended up with F’s because of this. Even our home room teachers were dog-whipped into saying that they could hear the music from their classrooms, despite them being at the farthest end of the hallway! My mom threatened to report the incident and sue the school (she had the financial means to do this) for harassment and violation of our religious rights because Dr. Evil was purposely failing us for those beliefs. The principal offered us C’s in order to quell my mom’s threats. The principal also forced Dr. Evil to stop the meditations out of fear that other parents were complaining too. At least we got a little victory out of that, but it only deepened the grudge. One last thing about this vile woman was that, from third to fifth grade, we were required to learn how to play the recorder. This was a weekly lesson and we were not permitted to take the instrument home to practice outside of school. Given this, I and one other student actually fully learned how to play the instrument perfectly (in both proper breathing and finger placement). Despite this achievement, the other student got an A and I got yet another C. Gee, I wonder why… Sorry for the long tangent. This woman was a permanent scar on so many kids. Even adults still living in the area and raising kids in the school district remembered her from their school days. She started in the early 70’s, if I recall, so that gives you a rough estimate of how long her reign of terror was. The school permanently closed down in 2008, and she was still there, to the very end, haunting innocent children for over 30 years…

I’m currently studying to become a teacher. If a group of students were turning in the work an hour early consistently, I would go up to them and be like “hey, you really seem to understand the material. Is there something in the course that interests you? Maybe we can focus on that in your free time and you can learn about what you want to.”

This is a problem and never gets addressed, in elementary about 5th grade my teacher clearly had a favorite and all us took offense and called her out. Ended up having a class meeting to address the situation when he was out. Nothing came of it (mind you most us had the exact same grades or better) fast forward to middle school he was in all advanced classes since she recommended him for it. Never actually had a problem with him tho

Lately I have been having a lot of this in terms of my own school. Right now I am pursuing psychology and since I am passionate about the subject, I research a ton into it. When I take the courses, I find that a lot of information is either factually wrong or just flat out illogical, and I always call it out. Its exhausting work and there is a part of me that wants to do something different but I honestly don’t want to To those who are reading my comments, could you perhaps provide a solution to prevent more things like this from happening because its genuinely affecting my wellbeing, and I know that speaking out about it and all helps people, but idk I don't feel free from this overarching false narrative
@hoodinisoar
@hoodinisoar Жыл бұрын
Listen buddy, the fact that you were challenging all the ideas and theories that you see and read in psychology only proves how passionate you are for the career. It's all study of the mind, nothing is ever going to be certain, remember a lot of ideas have changed over time BECAUSE they have been challenged! Never stop asking questions, that hunger to know more about what you're learning will def help you go far, I know from personal experience. It's a tough career path to pursue, but don't let anybody deter you. Good luck buddy!! Stay strong!! 💪🏼

once you become the teacher’s target your DONE for the rest of the year. back inna 6’th grade, as i was growing into the class clown, i stood up to my teacher for picking on other students unfairly and not teaching us how to properly practice our math skills. i got thrown out da class and put into an advanced math class, where instead of the teacher helping me, he tried to emasculate me in front of his class, and I wasn’t going for it so he eventually backed down. from that day forward I no longer respected my teacher and became the class clown. one day in my math class we went to the computer lab to do work and I decided to troll and blast random videos and sounds on my computer. i strategically plugged headphones into my computer and put it in front of someone else’s computer in the row in front of me so the teacher was confused. i played a random hub video and the teacher ain’t know who did it so he picked me out from the group even though sound didn’t play from my computer or row. i got a referral and detention 😭 these teachers love beefing w/ kids

The whole education system is going to collapse in the near future because hardly anyone wants to be a teacher for a job anymore and the vast majority of teachers today are about to reach the retirement age and the school systems out there are gonna have a really hard time replacing them and if they do they will most likely be very unqualified for the job which will only lead to many more problems for a lot of people later down the line.

I remember having this experience in 5th grade with my elementary school teacher. It was so obvious that she picked favorites because she would let them get away with talking in class, yet call me out for doing nothing. I got detention for dropping a pen in her class, and was pretty much bullied by her everyday to the point that I cried. I remember not wanting to go to school because of her. Thankfully she got fired that year, but one of the worst experiences I've had

I had a teacher that was exactly like this, couldn't control a classroom to save her life, things got so bad that calculators and books were being thrown from one end of the class to the other whilst she was teaching. I got a grade 5 (high C /low B) in her lesson which was the lowest grade I got.

Classrooms should have cameras inside to monitor how teachers treat students. My entire perception of school was shifted by the second grade because of a teacher like that and it set me on a downward spiral of being stuck behind everybody and being unmotivated to even wake up some days A thing as simple as a teacher asking how my day has been boosts my mood so much. More than they would ever know. But my grades are always higher when my morale is higher

I remember when a English supply teacher said that we shouldn’t be taking jobs from oeope of colour and all I said was “to me I just want to make sure everyone has an equal shot if they all have the same skill.” She got angry at me saying we should push for getting diverse people in jobs and said like “you are a women you understand” I just told her how I would rather be hired in an unbiased way then be a diversity higher. My friend who is a darker skinned Asian man agreed with me and we told her how we as “minorities” in her eyes would like to be treated equal since if it wasn’t for being hired equally and fairly then non of our parents could have been hired. She got angry and told us to focus on the work our teacher left for us and went on her phone. She left an angry note to my English teacher to which the fellow classmates stood up for my friend and I and testified for how crazy she was about the topic to 11th graders.

@@LazerWolf21 And i presume alot of people have this same feeling too and its not just me because whenever we had subwork only like 2 people really did anything at all and the rest of us did nothing. And then the teacher the next day would complain to us that only 2 people even did the work at all. Maybe if you'd stop giving so much work we'd feel enough motivation to do the work.

This story reminded me how much I hated my French teacher in Elementary School. I did not like French classes but she was more of a problem to me, personally. I remember, one day while I was sitting in the desk in front of hers, we had some sort of assignment and while it was dead silence in the classroom, all the sudden she out loud said "Look how much hair there is on my desk ! Luka ! You are molting like a cat !?" She said that in front of everyone, while having a long hair that went down to her chest. Felt so f*cking embarrassed and stunned that I could not say a word. And that is not the only time she pulled off s*it like that... At one point, while she was dictating a text very fast, my hand writing got bad and she looked at my notebook and asked me when is my birthday, and to be basically told "I`ll remember to buy you a notebook" I hate that f*cking b*tch so much... And after what, ten years, I got a receding hairline (25) Props to Optimus for standing up to a bad teacher. Wish I had the balls to shut mine up...

Your class is just like my college computer science class. She never helps anyone all she does is just tell you what assignments to do. She never actually taught us something. This school year is almost over an I’ve only learned things by looking things up. I still don’t like her.
