Everyone talk about the scene when Wille is alone making his make-up before the ball, as a symbol of the prince's loneliness. But the scene before symbolize something more : when Wille is carrying his costume and wig for the ball, alone in the boys' hallway. The girls are together, and for this time Felice doesn't want to play the "good friend" and spends this time with her roomates. And boys are together too, moving one to another to get ready for the party, and Wille stays alone in the middle of this Brownian motion. Even when Vincent ask him if he would like to drink with him and his friends, Wille answer No. Better to be alone than with this band of straight bad boys. For me it's a dark symbol of queer teenagehood loneliness.
@TroyDivision772 жыл бұрын
That’s a great point. In a tweet Edvin said “the worst for him is that he has to do his own makeup,” which sounds like a joke, but in this context it’s really not. It accentuates his own isolation in that scene because everyone is getting ready together, going to the ball together, and he gets ready alone and then he enters the ball alone (like a badass, but still all alone).

Their mid-kiss smiles are the highlight of this episode and probably my favourite moment of the season. I also want to say few words about Markus of it all. His first scene I was like "Oh baby, I'm sorry, you're in it for a heartbreak" Felt sorry for him during his Netflix and chill date with Simon. Then I got a bit dissapointed when he showed some manipulative tendencies. But - he is very believable character. I have been a Markus in one of my past relationships. And it fucked me up so much that I married a Markus afterwards and had a kid with him. And I was in my late 20s, not a teen anymore! Of course on the show it only took a few weeks and what, 3 dates? So it probably won't have that much of an impact on Markus' life but still, I just need to point out how realistic and believable the whole situation is. people do those kind of things all the time, when emotions are stronger than reason. Adult people as well, let alone teenagers whose hormones and feelings are all over the place and whose brains aren't fully developed yet. This is me saying once again how good is the writing of YR, I guess. I will probably pop up in your comments multiple times because I feel the need to talk about this show and have no one IRL to do so with. Greetings from Poland, I'm jus a sea away from Sweden ;)

The first 2 episodes were so heartbreaking, I was craving so much for them at least holding hands briefly, looking into each others eyes... as you, I could barly continue watching. At the same tim: had we gotten that kiss already in episode 1 of season 2, it would have never had that impact. Neither would Simon and Wille have understood how deeply they are connected, and that there is no running away from your soulmate. I think they needed that time without each other to really understand love. It's not a random crush, nor can any of the two be replaces by another person. I think it was my favourite episode too. It is this episode that had finally melted my iceberg of confusion and my heart at the same time when I was rewatching season 2. When the final song started playing, I was, like, hypnotised, and tears immediately started forming in my eyes. I WAS WAITING FOR THAT MOMENT FOR THE WHOLE DAMNED ETERNITY. That's when the season finally hit me. By the way, maybe I've realized why it was that hard to get that desired hit. You know, season 1 ended up to be incredibly unique for me, like, it was so magical and charming, but also... horrifying at the same time. When August, at the end of s1ep4, appeared walking near the windows, I was just like "No. No. It really happens right now? IT CAN'T BE HAPPENING". Pure fucking horror had captured me at that moment, and I was nearly unable to feel any kind of joy, even watching the fish scene, because I fucking knew that damned August will do something with that video. God, just thinking about his first reflex when he catched Wille was fucking RECORDING IT IMMEDIATELY makes me drown in anger. I was even unable to rewatch season 1 by myself because I was terrified about watching and feeling that horror again! That was unrepeatable. And also, I just love Simon's facial expression in that scene when he throws a ball at Wille. His eyes were just like all-consuming black holes, like his only desire was to eat Wille right now. Fortunately, he ended up only eating Wille's lips at the end) Thanks a lot for your reaction. Take care!

One of the things (out of many!!) that bother me about Sara and her “relationship” with August is that the whole time, not once does she verbalize any concern about what Simon might think/feel and considering their interaction in S1 during dinner when she was berating their mom and saying she was going to move and live at the school. He was so raw and open with her about wanting to be her friend again because he needed her. UGH!!!! She just doesn’t think about him at all and that is so hurtful and infuriating!!! Also, she knows that Felice doesn’t care about August, she dropped him like a hot potato for kissing Sara so I don’t know what feelings she thinks she’s sparing by not being honest. Obviously her being sneaky serves the story but still LOL
@lovemyshelf2 жыл бұрын
That's because she thinks the damage of the video is done and she doesn't know what August put Simon through in s1. It still doesn't excuse her bevaviour and shacking up with August is undeniably morally wrong, but that's why she doesn't worry about Simon knowing. She considers Felice's feelings more bc she knows that you shouldn't get with your bestie's ex.
@lauraibarra9012 жыл бұрын
@@lovemyshelf yeah, she says that but I don’t buy that. How August behaved towards Simon throughout the season is inconsequential - he violated her brother’s privacy. She didn’t tell her brother who did it because then she couldn’t use that to her advantage. She sold her brother’s dignity for a place in the school dorm. When she went to basically blackmail him to get herself into the school, she said Simon was devastated. That should be enough. She says that before falling for him she knew right from wrong but did you?! Because blackmailing the person that violated your brother’s privacy is not right and yet you did 🤷🏻♀️

@@lovemyshelf I think the other thing we tend to forget is that Sara is neurodivergent. She thinks in a very different way to others, especially with respect to social etiquette and cues. She's also used to being forgiven by her family and she feels safe in the knowledge that they love her (remember when she tells Simon she wanted the jodhpurs they got her for her birthday returned for cash. As an aside: probably also why Simon has developed a high threshold for forgiving people...because he's grown up with a big sister who he's had to learn to forgive more often than most people are required to) whereas this is the first time she is experiencing having friends so she is understandably more conscious of her every move in this context because she is still learning how to 'be a friend', with the added complication of romance. That's complicated enough for any 18 year old to navigate, never mind a neurodivergent one who's experiencing all of this for the first time in her life. It's what I love about this show. These characters are so real and true to their natural development arc and the writers don't shy away from exploring that as honestly as they can. I mean even the scene where she tries to comfort August for the first time (2x01), I think. She understands horses better than she understands humans. It's why she was so good with Rousseau. She is able to calm an anxious horse down so it makes sense that that's how she bonds with August, unintentionally and unforeseeable by either of them! She does what she naturally does with the horse and goes to calm August down and it has a counter-effect on her that she was not expecting. And it was just so beautiful to see how sexual attraction and romance is experienced by a neurodivergent person. I don't think I've ever seen that on TV, especially for a female character, so of course it makes sense that a lot of people may not get it at first or understand why someone with a neurodivergence would act in a completely different way to what we would expect, in these circumstances. But that's one thing YR is good at doing - pushing the envelop by showing us unfiltered but very real, raw human experiences. As someone on the spectrum, this feels so raw and honest (even more so than 'Atypical' or 'As we see it' where it's a bit too over-sensationalised and in your face). YR trusts the audience enough that they don't need to remind you every time of a character's special traits and quirks. It's done so subtly that if you blink, you might miss it (like Felice's hair and subtle, albeit innocent societal racial micro-aggressions) but if you pay attention, you'll see the breadcrumbs (Like when Sara moves into the dorm and Felice shows her to a messy closet, which Felice cannot appreciate would be quite unsettling and stressful for someone like Sara to sort through) Sorry for the long essay!😝
@lovemyshelf2 жыл бұрын
@@lauraibarra901 That's from s1 though... In Sara's mind the video thing is old news. What you said is true but in s2, she doesn't consider Simon's feelings while dating August bc she believes August wants to repent for the damage done with the video and again, she doesn't know what August put Simon through in s1. She's willing to give August a second chance and the shooting range scene is her wake up call.

19:07 Fredrika and Stella definitely cannot be considered "queer bait" (or lesbian bait, as you prefer). They've been together like true secret lovers since the beginning. In the first season when August invites Felice to dinner the girls discuss the possibility of someone like August changing for love and Fredrika hints that August might be interesting as a love match and this creates an obvious jealous reaction from Stella. This reaction we can only understand in this second season. These girls were lesbian (or maybe bisexual etc) from the beginning.

They haven't though. Stella literally says to Sara that she never disclosed her romantic feelings for Frederika to her bc she's too scared of losing the friendship down the line, even if Frederika loves her back. What did you think of august actually wanting to take Sara to the dance? That was Huge because in s1 he wasn’t even okay with Wilhelm eating lunch with Simon. But in s2 August is ready to openly declare that he’s with Sara, a poor “socialist”. Ooh and serious question: when they were telling august that he has to do 10yrs in the military and stuff if he’s to take the throne, does that mean that Wilhelm is expected to do that?
@jtwent99222 жыл бұрын
They didn't say that he'd need to ten years in the military. They said that he needs to starting military training in the fall. And they will send him a proposal laying out his next ten years. That doesn't imply ten years in the military. And Nordic royals, regardless of sex or gender, are expected to do military training. Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden did her service. In Denmark, Prince Joaquim's sons (not crown princes) both dropped out of the military after brief stints, and that was frowned upon by the older generations, even though both are popular, especially among the younger crowd. @@lovemyshelf lol of course it’s no surprise that he’s a hypocrite. Is a dirt bag through and through. It was just weird to me that he was a hypocrite about this thing specifically. He refused to even sell one artifact in s1 to cover his own tuition. But he sold a piece to buy someone else a horse!? @@danarenee6088 I didn't think it was growth. I think that it was pretty in line with August's character. When he buys the horse for Sara in s2, he's at a totally different place mentally. He probably thinks he's the shit and all his problems are behind him.
