I am a sound technician and have been an artist assistant. At some "higher" events there usually was(is) security and a pass you have to wear. It has always been my sport to accidentally have my pass not visible and try to walk in without it. I can tell you it only needs a confident look and walk like you belong and are at a 'rank' that you expect security does not dare to ask you. I have only actually been stopped once in al these years. I told the security guy this same story and thanked and respected him for being very good at his job because he did not give a s""T how I walked or looked :) I LOVED the granddad. He was so sharp and funny with his remarks.

I got myself into an after party at Copenhagen Fashion Week some years ago this way. Was with a friend and the queue must have been a 1.5 hour-long wait and packed with models, which I am most definitely not. As we discussed what to do (simply going home), four guys (all 6+ feet and blond) walked past us heading straight for the entrance and I told her to follow along and be cool. Security saw them coming, lifted the rope and we waltzed right on through. Turned to laugh with my friend and saw her behind the rope looking mad nervous. For whatever reason they had stopped her. Emboldened by having gotten in, I told security that she was with me and they let her in. To this day I cannot for the life of me believed that actually worked. Cracks me up every time I think about it.

This isn't just "the fashion world is crazy lol", it's also quite a nice study on charisma, deception, and art through fashion. The combo of Ray being a stellar actor, bodyguard, and camera crew? Anyone would have been bamboozled. Zac undersells the whole look of Ray. The model and the outfit told a story that would be catnip to designers. The model himself came off as knowledgeable, witty, and approachable. Of course he should be there! He's probably a veteran in the industry. And his clothes! It starts playful and self-aware with the colors, the tamagotchi, the duct tape on the back. But by the time you get to the feet, and it ends with a statue of Putin with eyes everywhere? It's honestly great. It's ridiculous on the street, but that's just perfect for the runway. I legit think that was probably getting talked about by wealthy designer folks for days.

From personal experience, I can tell you one thing: the weirder your excuse is, the higher your chances are to get into Fashion Week parties. Some years ago my buddies and me were on a short vaccation in Berlin until we realised it was fashion week. We were (are) just a bunch of metal heads with nothing but bullshit in our minds, so we tried to get in. While we were thinking of a story to tell the bouncers, I remembered a business card I kept in my purse. It was from a small two-men joinery called (translated) "The Magic Blacksmith" quiet near my hometown. They made all kinds of fantasy decorations for their customer's livingrooms and the guys running the company were hella funny, so I kept their card just in case I would've too much money on my bank account one day and decided to order some custom-made furniture from them. We skipped everybody at the line and when I approached the bouncers, I pulled out the business card and told them, "Hi, we're here to fix the unicorn downstairs." The chief bouncer just nodded at the others and they immediately let us in without asking any questions at all. Like it was absolutely normal that the unicorn was broken and needed a fix. Fucking hell. The party itself was lame, but to this day everyone cracks up when we tell the story of how we got to join it. :D

This was so refreshing. Early 2000s trends have been making waves again and random inflatable accessories were big back then. The grandad duct tape helps break it up and make it look like it's not supposed to be taken seriously, that is a self aware irony piece. It works on both a silly and a trendy standpoint. The fact the model is an older man is incredibly refreshing too, it really gives a "been there, done that, get off my lawn so I can party" vibes in a sea of younger models that are desperate and trying hard to make it big. Ray didn't care about any of that, he was just there doing his thing. And in the right context, that can really come off as a long term fashion veteran that other people should have heard of, but haven't.
@MissMisnomer_
@MissMisnomer_ Жыл бұрын
Right? They nailed the vibe perfectly, and Ray carried the show. He had this "I'm an artist and this is my art, deal with it" energy the entire time. Having a big bouncer, camera, and handlers definitely helps sell the illusion. And inventing the story about him being related to a famous designer that would be had to prove in a spur of the moment situation? Genius. You don't want to be the kind of idiot who doesn't recognize someone "famous" that you SHOULD know. This scheme was a mastercraft of deception.

I’m in tears with joy. This just melted my cold, black heart. My grandpa was my favourite person in the whole world and my best friend. This was so wholesome , funny and I loved every moment of Ray and his humour. Thank you for this! Sincerely, the world’s Best Grandkid :)) ❤❤❤

No joke, these videos are incredibly inspiring and encouraging. They remind me you can get anywhere if you're willing to put in a little effort and believe in yourself. Convince yourself you belong, you can convince anyone you belong. Appreciate you, man.

Yeah, but I think the idea of using an old guy is key here. For sure, max fosh got into fashion week too but ray got into everything. That’s because an old dude dressed like that is so ridiculous that they don’t even think about it being fake, he has to be VIP. Actually genius.

Yup. If ya wanna meet and even collaborate with anyone who's ever given a TED Talk cuz you know exactly what they're all about and why you're excited to be a part of it -- just shoot them an email amd a follow-up call if that's appropriate. Been in-touch with Mr. DIY Spacesuit recently and that was Super Cool! 😎

PLEASE TELL ME THERE'S GOING TO BE A PART 2!? Ray G is a whole vibe! He's really a natural! 😂... Such a humble and loving old man. His grandkids and family are so lucky to have him. He literally got into fashion week just with cheap wish stuff, and an amazing personality! This should show everyone that fashion week is completely bogus, and really is just crap thrown together. It's really all about "The name". I hope this isn't the last we see of Ray! 🎉❤👏👏👏

This is the most fascinating and enthralling video I’ve watched in a long time, they’ve made life truly thrilling and wondrous to live in, getting to experience just crazy, far from mundane experiences, all navigating with a youthful and charismatic 76 year old, and he’s an absolute gigachad.

To be honest, y’all created very colorful, random, and silly outfits that were absolutely original. Overall, you look at it and think a child picked it out, which makes you smile thinking somewhere out there it’s possible for an old man to still be a child at heart. Loved your outfit, it deserved all the praise for being crazy, but fun.

Guys I tell you, it's not that easy, you can try to buy random shit and put it on it won't work. Zac's team did a hell of a job, and it would not work on another model, Ray was also crucial it's like he was born for this and his personality helped alot.

Felt a bit bad for all the grandpa's who showed up for the audition, especially the one with the character outfit and the flawless french. I mean he was trying real hard wasn't he. Hope you had a nice conversation and gave them something for their time!

I can't stop laughing at the models trying to find Ray's Instagram! 😂 This video just shows that confidence and charisma can take you anywhere, even to the top of Fashion Week. And kudos to Zac for his styling skills, he might have a future in fashion design. But the real star here is Ray, what a legend! His grandkids will be mind-boggled when they see this. And that "disgustingly good" line? Comedy gold. This whole thing just proves how ridiculous the fashion world can be, but also how open and accepting they can be. And shoutout to Ray's Zoolander energy, he fit right in. Can't wait for the Zac and Ray show!
