Because corporate found they could run things on a skeleton crew since there were fewer people out and about. And when they factored up all the money they saved by operating on a skeleton crew, they decided to just keep things that way.

What this retired judge had to say was so on point! What the Supreme Court has done is shift so much more power to the courts themselves. And all of these landmark decisions have been done in a partisan fashion, with Republicans voting one way, and Democrats the other. There has been no nod to respect for precedent that has been established over decades! No wonder the public faith in the court has been eviscerated! The President has Article II authority under the appointments clause to nominate candidates for the federal bench including the Supreme Court, and all he needs is advice and consent of the Senate to get the nomination process started. Supreme Court nominees only need a simple majority vote in the Senate to be confirmed. Democrats control the Senate and the Vice-President acts as tie breaker in the event of an even 50-50 vote.

Judge Tatel was clear in saying the judges shouldn't be impeached for the decisions, so by implication their corruption is another story. C.
