I shake my head every time i see a guitar built in the last 40 years that has that kind of truss rod adjustment, fender vintage accurate? yes, dumb and terrible design? yes, there's just no excuse for it nowadays, it's like all these vintage boutique builders read the same manual: 'how to repeat the same mistakes made 70 years ago just for the sake of vintage accuracy'.

Cannot agree more. It is the dumbest thing. I think every guitar should be the spoke wheel heel truss rod adjustments. If not that, at least just open heads adjustments. Taking the entire neck off is the worst setup and I refuse to buy any guitar with that outdated hot garbage.
@samuelwnovak3 күн бұрын
I think about this every time someone parrots “Leo Fender got it right the first time most of the time 🥰” He clearly didn’t LOL. The man himself probably wouldn’t even agree with that proposition given the fact that he was a tinkerer his entire life and continuously refined his designs. Another example is the bridge cover on the Telecaster. To its credit I do think it looks cool, but the playing experience is ridiculous. A design that totally prevents you from placing your hand near or even right on the bridge could have only been invented by somebody who was not themselves a player. I respect and admire the man, I appreciate his enormous influence/contribution to not just Western popular music but indeed global musical culture in general, but some of his ideas were objectively bad.

I still think warmoth modern necks have the best truss rod adjustment locations. It is located on the side of the heel. There is still an Allen head adjustment on the end of the heel for large adjustments but the side heel adjustment is for minor adjustments. Super quick, easy access and is very accurate.

I find that connection with instruments varies through time of the year, mood, what I'm listening to/playing etc... You never know how you're going to feel next, so I don't sell my instruments when they spend a bit more time in their case, and sure thing, down the road, I end up picking them again and playing them through and through for months/years on end. This is a cool Strat, would be nice to see more videos of it!

The silver sky has made me lose a bond I had with my other guitar also. I never expected to like a 7.25” radius but Paul reed found some magical way to get buttery smooth low action without fretting out on such a tight vintage radius and it just feels great.

Guitars, like everything else in life, need constant care and maintenance. Put a new set of stainless steel frets on that guitar and with the a truss rod adjustment, you'll get many more years out that guitar. I love my K-Line Strat!!! When I think of John Cordy playing the guitar, I picture that blue K-LIne.

I was about to sell my PRS Cu24 because I havent used it in more than a year since its the nicest guitar I own and I have other gig friendlier guitars. As soon as I set it up and restrung it for the sale, played it for a bit and remembered why I bought it in the first place. Time does a funny thing that it makes you forget why you found the special gear so special in the first place. I ended up keeping the PRS. I've sold way too many guitars i regret letting go of.

When you play a guitar for a while on the channel I feel we're getting a much better idea of what it's like. It's a great thing to do, and of course your playing is superb. I haven't been drawn to the Silver Sky, K-lines sound consistently good. I remember the Fender American Vintage II 57 Stratocaster which had something special about it. Almost bought one but I can't have a guitar that needs the next taken off to adjust truss rod !!!!!

Every guitar goes out of adjustment, whether it's through natural wood movement, or fret wear. Putting them back to where they should be is just routine maintenance. I do know that when I've let mine go too far, that "bond" is weakened; but the moment they're back to full playability, the bond is restored.

9.5s strings are a pretty sweet spot on 25.5" scale guitars. I do use 10s on my Strat and part of the reason i play that guitar more than any other is i don't want to get used to the lighter strings that i have set up on other guitars. It's almost a masochistic approach. 9s are obviously easier still to play, but i find they don't last too long before sound goes on them, specially the high E. 9.5s are almost as easy but don't need changing as often
@mainstreetmusic46652 күн бұрын
It's really funny....same thing happened to me. I have a 59 reissue Strat which wasn't playing right after about a year of playing other beauties. I tweaked the truss-rod and re-intonated and presto.....fell back in love with it. Also, I floated the trem up a bit which improved the sustain and resonance (SuperVee BladeRunner bridge). The guitar came alive again 🙂

You played a yellow KLine over on the G66 channel, which pickups are in that one? The blue strat is the guitar you've played some great stuff on, so just get the frets replaced. If you're one of those musicians who bonds emotionally very strongly with your instrument, you should only get the frets re-done because otherwise you'll feel something is "missing" when you play. For anyone who thinks that is nonsense, some of the musicians I talk to play on antique instruments worth hundreds of thousands of £££, and they form a bond with the instrument that powerfully informs their playing. They react incredibly strongly to the smallest of changes and it really affects the emotions they experience when they play. Yes from one point of view it's a bit weird, but it's also a good thing because music is not a purely scientific discipline. Almost the opposite in fact imo, so there's absolutely no shame in "bonding with an inanimate object" because it's an extension of who you are, if you invest that much of yourself in it 🙂

I had my original Strat '71 vintage re-fretted a few years ago and I don't like its feel anymore. Really less responsive and seems to have lost so much of its former sparkle. Would never sell it but it saddens me. Watching you play your Silver Sky has really put me in mind for lashing out some dosh.
@jakollee3 күн бұрын
I had my ‘74-‘75 Strat re-fretted and sort of regret it. It really needed it, the B and high E string would fret out when bent. But some little bits of wood came out high up on the neck when the frets were pulled out, and the divots were filled with some sort of artificial wood. The guitar certainly plays better now, but it’s now obvious that the neck has been altered.

John, (noting that i am not one to ascribe feelings to inanimate objects) it looks like the blue k-line is just “upset” with you for locking it in a cupboard for a year, i’m sure you’d feel the same... don’t be afraid of the re-fret, the guitars i’ve had refretted professionally have always come back playing better than before. I totally understand not wanting to gig your number 1 at certain venues, but outside of theft it’s going to be just fine

I play a PRS Silver Sky. I think it's THE guitar for me; I don't think I've ever wanted anything different. The band sounds pretty tight John. When a band can do those climb down progressions and breaks together, it shows me you've done a lot of playing together. You can start to prefer a guitar over others in your batch. It seems like the K-line has really good sustain. Thats without hearing a direct A/B comparison. I think the bond can be a lot of things. It could be just how it overall responds to your picking. It could be how the body and neck feels in your hands, etc. For me its a lot about how a guitar stays in tune up and down the neck.

But- that 5+lb Warmoth Strat with early EMG SA-20’s, Gilmour/Clapton style mid-range circuit, Wilkinson bridge and roller nut, Sperzel lockers and a big old boat tail roasted maple neck with compound 9 to 14 radius always feels like home.
