this was the sesh that I needed to put me over the edge, now totally stoked on the HA880. and I really thought the sesh was gonna go so differently but the conditions really made it easy to play around rail to rail a lot... 2.5 hours and 26 miles of ripping rapid fire on small waves made me froth hard. so stoked.
during the sesh I discuss my thoughts on the HA880 foil.
gear ridden this sesh:
75L v1 Armie FG board
HA880 foil
795 HM mast, 11 in track
60 fuse
140 dart stab (red & blue shims)
4.5m v3 F-One STRIKE wing
5:4 Mahulu Stormrider wetsuit
Kaohi double coil grip leash & padded belt
Solites 8mm booties

Just tried my new 780 and bro... I am totally blown away and have to talk about it. First the takeoff/stall speed, how!? Thinking I should have gotten 680 or 580 now. The 1125 is so much harder to get up it's kinda crazy. Next is the carve, it's insane how effortlessly it moves from side to side, it is perfectly timed to my intuition so my abilities just improved dramatically just because I don't force anything. Awesome. Next is the pump/glide, again, HOW!? I didn't realize it was supposed to feel like that, I was able to pump downwind flagged for the first time. It was as effortless as everyone makes it look. Wild. Finally breach/landings, I didn't even realize I was breaching when I first heard it, my mast doesn't feel too short anymore because every little unprepared tip out doesn't cause a crash. Landings are butter, exactly what I was wanting, quick back on foil. Magic. I am totally stoked on these just like you, thanks for spreading it!

YESSS!!! man I love hearing all this, and I concur with everything you say! def consider adding the 580 to the quiver. It's all I wanna ride. has so much lift for it's size but even smaller than the 780. yeah, coming off the 1125, you must feel a HUGE difference. like night and day, or more like 2 days later :P when I see people pump and reconnect on Armie foils or any brand... it's just not been my experience. I always thought I could pump, but these new ones are so easy, so intuitive... the "up" pump is so good and the glide.... I miss the 780 but kept the 880 cause it has that much more glide. these things are totally rad, and so stoked every time someone else says so. glad you took the plunge, and sooo stoked you are stoked!! woot woot! I wish you a awesome rest of you week bud!!

thanks bud! and stoked for you! somehow I ended up with the 680, 780 and 880. teehee. I think the 780 will go because I got a taste of the 680 and I'm really stoked on the lift and glide that thing has for it's size. so much different than like the 725, but it's still freakin small! I'm stoked to try the 780 more though, and def with the dart. I want to do some speed tests with the v2s soon, maybe this weekend. yr gonna love the 780!

Sweet bud, glad you dug it! Yeah no complaints on those waves. I thought the sesh was gonna be bunk but it ended up being delicious. I used to love riding those same conditions on a surfboard with a kite. Sweet carving on those baby quarter pipes! That’s bud, I wish you an awesome day!!

oh no Foil Drive is gonna change everything. I know it. it sucks. I wanna try to develop my skills more with the pumping before I got over but I think it's inevitable that I go that direction. looks so goddam fun.

The new Armstrong HA sound a lot like the sab razors. I went from the thin, low camber sab ha wings (1000,1110) and got 3 of the razors - 980,880,820. After 6 months I sold all the razors and went back to 100% on the blades. There are definitely advantages of this shape - they are easier to ride, they pump really well, they roll well as you ride them really small because they have so much lift… but… eventually I got bored of the inefficiency of the fatter profile (for winging). I am sure there is a place for this type of wing, but I concluded they weren’t for me.

Sup bud! Cool thoughts on the Sab stuff. Who knows where I’ll be in 6 months. But I def want to improve my pump game so these will stay in the rotation but maybe I’ll sell the ones that overlap too much. Gonna be an interesting few months!

Ripping bro. I've been riding the 680 for wing, prone and towing (3' to 8') and it's a quiver killer. Best foil I've ever ridden

sick dude! I rode it the first time the other day in some decent sized waves and I was hooked. more of that please! honestly it rips and gets on foil pretty easy too, like crazy east for it's size. the bouncy rail to rail is great. I can't wait to get back on it!

I finally found a set of mitts I like and they started getting holes in them, I'm over it! I hope you get some warmth and wind soon bud. wishing you and the fam an awesome weekend!

HA1080 has been my smaller wave (and eventually DW) foil on the DW SUP at 90kg. Compared to the previous HA/MA foils from Armstrong, it's a pump machine. Winging in lighter air on it has been really fun as it gets up so easily. Turning is more drawn out but still fun. TBH I've been quite frustrated on the previous Army foils for consistent connections pumping back out. New HAs have solved this! Stoked!! Still plan on keeping my MA1000 and maybe MA1225 as they are amazing wing foils, but for surfing, the new HAs are so good. Looking fwd to your reviews on the smaller (680 etc) foils. 🤙

This is great to hear, thanks bud. I have set the intention, I will get the 1080 for the DW board. I’m even considering a 580 after one sesh on the 680. I’m either gonna do 680/880/1080 or 580/780/1080. I agree… none of the previous Armie foils felt natural to pump, but the 880 was the first that just feels natural. And agreed, keeping the MA’s for jumping and speed but these HA’s are gonna be the daily drivers for a while. I can’t wait to get more wind!

Have tested or bought 780, 880, 980. Even the 780 feels like a big foil except when turning. A big downside compared to HA v1 is the limited speed when gliding in big fast swell but they are great for small waves and pumping/gliding. Kind of regret I didn't got the 680 instead of 780. The 980 is huge, feels like a hs1800 but turns like the ma1250. the 880 feels similar to the 780 but not as agile.

sup bud! I have the 680, 780, 880 right now and I'm pretty sure one will be not necessary. I'm guessing the 780. the 680 was ridden the other day after a super quick 780 sesh the day before. the 680 was pretty easy. like nothing like getting the 800 on foil. but it did feel like it ripped. pretty good speed-wise I can't want to ride that more. who knows, maybe the 880 will go too if this 680 can do everything. I think I'm keeping my 800 unless I can prove the 680 is faster. I still need a fast foil and I sold the 725. it's gonna be an interesting month or two figuring all this stuff out! I wish you an awesome weekend!

Excellent review! I'm about 70 k and currently ride the MA 1000 and 1225, trying to figure if I was to go for two HA's would it be 680 and 880 or 980?
@OCEANBOUND1
@OCEANBOUND1 6 ай бұрын
thanks bud! I have 680/880. I had the 780 and that was great, but one had to go and I really liked the 680 and 880 for kinda different reasons. the 780 was smack in the middle, if you were only getting one I'd def say that one. but I really like the glide and pump of the 880 so I wanted to keep that one. and the 680 has a lot more lift than you'd think, but it actually is small so it's fun to ride. so that's how I got to where I am. I think that 980 would be unnecessary for your weight, but it would certainly glide and pump more so if that's what's important to you, they it's not far off form the 880. I think you will be happy with whatever you end up with, just make sure they are at least 2 sizes apart. I can't wait to try that 580... :P let me know what you end up with!

Hey Jeremy, I’m interested to hear your opinion on the new HA1080 and HA1180, specifically whether you think they will be suitable for light-wind days (~8-12kts) and dock-starts. I’m at 63kg, and I wing foil with a HS1550v2 or an HA925v1. Best, -Stuart

sup bud! sorry to leave you hanging. I'm excited to get or at least try the 1080... it won't happen for another month at least. it's hard cause that 880 can do a lot but I do think I'll use the 1080 with the dw board or the super light days. I'm not super stoked on the 1675 cause it's such a beast to turn, so the best case scenario the 1080 replaces that and is way better to maneuver. at 63kg... you may even want to consider the 980! the 880 isn't really a replacement for the 925 IMO... I'd say the 780 is. the 880 or 980 should replace the 1550 but the 1550 will be more maneuverable for sure.

Thx a million for the breakdown on the larger HAv2 sizes, especially in comparison to the APF1675 and HS1550v2. Yeah, positioning a new foil purchase is hard! I have to laugh when I consider how much time I spend day-dreaming of imaginary sessions w/ different combinations of foils, boards & wings. My current thinking is to try the 980, and see how that fits into my quiver. To think I was initially looking at the 1180 !! 👀. I don’t especially need to turn as sharp as the HS1550v2. I’m assuming the glide will give me more time to manipulate my hand-wing. As always , stoked and inspired watching your vids. -Stuart

From the outside i have to tell you, your riding never looked smoother. Ok it is just as far as i can tell on what you show. But it looks really fluid, smooth, predicted in some way as well in critical moments it seems you are more easy in control. Just the pictures of that made me think more about the HAv2. I still ride and love my HAv1, i have 70% flat water, so the MA´s never got me. Don´t get me wrong here, but your "average" riding is so much more worth than all the hyped clips in whatever conditions. I love your channel because it is something like the real deal, without all of the mini myny mo bliblablub stuff. Keep it on rolling, you do great! Thx bro!!!

Dude thank YOU for the awesome words. The new HA’s turn kinda like the MA’s but they have their own thing going on with turning. I’m still trying to figure it out. The v1’s are faster IMO but I still have to test more on the v2 top end. The MAs feel good while winging… great turning and good jumping and a sort of breach recovery. But they really liven up with more vertical. If you are experiencing mostly flat and don’t jump, not much of a need. The new HA’s are great for pumping. So if you want to get better at that, or get into dock starting or go behind a boat, def consider. But yeah, the old v1’s are kinda their own thing and still very valid, especially winging flat stuff. Best case scenario you can try someone’s. You may fall in love or give a big mehh. If you do… let me know! Thanks again bud and I wish you an awesome day!

Do you think it’s worth upgrading from MA for those of us stuck on flat water?
@OCEANBOUND1
@OCEANBOUND1 8 ай бұрын
honestly, not really. unless you wanted to up your pump game... that's something I was looking to do with the dw board this year, so this makes a lot of sense and is appealing to me have something that makes more sense to work on those skills. these turn kinda like the MAs, I think the MAs are better for jumping. I'm not sure if I'll keep both the 1000 and 800 cause now there is some overlap. I still think the 800 will be faster and if so, it stays. I wouldn't rush to buy one. see if you can borrow one and if it speaks to you, then get it.
