I believe you are correct about the hot water. From what I remember, if you're going to be in water have it lukewarm, NOT HOT, your body will be in shock for longer. However, I believe that if it is lukewarm, it won't shock your system and can slowly warm you. The best however, is just getting warm, dry clothes and wrapping up in a blanket on the couch in a warm home so your body can acclimate and warm up. I believe that is what you are supposed to do but I am NOT a medical professional. I also remember hearing about not taking the soaking clothes off outside until you have a change of dry clothes. It sounds counterproductive but the elements outside are harsh on your bare skin and can make it worse.

10:06 your supposed to kinda ease into the warmth so with a shower you just very slowly progressively make it warmer, or if accesible get in warm dry clothes or wrap up in a warm dry towel and sit in a warm environment like turning up the heater and sitting in your bed under blankets. my grandpa (rip gramps) was an ice fisher and he would always warn us in the winter because he has almost gotten frostbite before and hypothermia (i actually have also gotten hypothermia before, my lips were literally blue and i was shaking)
@Cygnusart08437 ай бұрын
6:48 there isn’t really any set time for Hypothermia to set it. But usually It can occur within minutes of entering cold water, but the full effects can take around 30 minutes to develop. The time it takes to develop hypothermia depends on the water temperature, clothing, body type, etc.

Fresh water freezes at 32F. It usually remains liquid even when temperatures drop and it's snowing. This is because water holds heat better then the air. After a prolonged cold spell, the surface will freeze over. Saltwater is different. It can be below 32F and remain liquid, dependent on salt content.

How ironic is it that we just went through this in first aid training for my job? No, you’re not supposed to warm up that fast. Your friend was right in that you should’ve taken your wet clothes off. But his mom was wrong for making you take a warm shower. That is definitely what caused your body to stay in shock longer.

If you’re in a cold shock or on the verge of frost bite you’re not supposed to go right into hot water it can shock your body. However there is a thing called contrast therapy where you do that but not at those temperatures if I remember correctly. It is much better to let your body naturally adjust and warm up after being in the freezing cold for long periods of time. Take it from a girl in Idaho 😂

To answer your question, yes with more people inside the boat which makes it have more weight and make the gravity stronger on the boat to go faster then to make the length of the aftermath much more longer or it could just be if there was a lot snow and smoothed out as your group decided to go more and more it became more slippery to cause you guys to go faster and do the same results. But then again I wasn’t there myself so who knows what happened it’s just good that your safe now and people learned from the experience. Hoped this helped a little bit.
@Cygnusart08437 ай бұрын
It’s an along story but the short story is; I almost drowned when I was 8 and my mom told my older brother (who was holding my head under the water) to stop. He did and they were talking over by where our stuff was (we were at a resort pool) and I couldn’t hear what she said but I’m guessing she told him to go back to the room we were staying in. And I remember watching my brother walk all the way back and then when I couldn’t see him anymore I look back at my mom expecting.. idk literally anything? And when I looked back, she’s just reading her kindle like she was doing before. Like nothing even happened. And then when I was about 14 I mentioned that story to her. (I think I repressed that drowning memory until I was about 11/12 and I didn’t talk about it until then) idr exactly what I said but the gist of the conversation was; ‘hey mom, remember that time I almost drowned and died?’ And she goes, ‘oh yeah, I remember that.’ And then she went right back to scrolling through Facebook.

Mild hypothermia doesn't really cause damage, I think. It's really just uncontrollable shivering, and once you warm up you're fine. Once you stop shivering, that's moderate hypothermia, which might cause some damage. It can progress pretty quickly, so you're lucky someone came to help.
@Katarinablaze6 ай бұрын
You're right about not going in hot water immediately after freezing cold temperatures, it's a big shock to your body, and unsafe
@WolfRayron12256 ай бұрын
FUNFACT: If you have expierienced an extreme amount of cold, like a hypothermia level of cold, going right to being by or in something very hot like a hot shower or a fire, that shit aint good! what you SHOULD do is get some dry clothes and get some good dry blankets, wrap yourself up and let yourself warm up a bit slower, responding to feeling extreme cold by exposing yourself to a lot of heat is a bad idea!

Most likely if you have more weight you gain more momentum and therefore go faster, there's lots of stuff that comes into play. but since it was slippery that way you would go faster the more weight you put on the boat
