The older I've gotten I have realized that my time is what matters the most because you can't get it back. I do like working hard, having financial independence and accomplishing goals but have learned to prioritize things with a higher reward, such as a higher paying job with less stress or a personal project I really care about. This means saying no to things that don't serve me like lower paying side jobs I don't need to do anymore.

1000% so true. I like how you mentioned prioritizing the higher reward and focusing on things you care about. That’s the key! And that is different for everyone hence the focus on your why. Saying no to the lower paying side jobs is such a big step too! Releasing the working just to work mentality.

Paige, thank you for this inspiration. It isn't the hustle. It's the why. And the universe is about balance. That middle path. Thank you for sharing your wisdom!

Very relatable, there is so much talk about the extremes, not enough talk about the importance of value

I think a lot of the anit-hustle/anti-work sentiment comes from the dissatisfaction people have in their jobs. You don't have a lot of control over your life and your time when you're working 9-5 retail or food service jobs and it's difficult to manage that and chase your real goals at the same time.

Yes exactly! I think that’s where the missing link is though - how to solve the dissatisfaction. The dialogue I consistently hear is how to just deal with the job and enjoy life outside of it but when you are dissatisfied with 40+ hours of your week, it’s not as simple as people make it out to be to just transition to the “work to live” mentality.

I’m in the middle of hustle and anti-hustle. I just considered this: A 40-hour work week equates to about 86 days a year. That’s just shy of 3 months! Now, that’s a loonnng time to spend doing something unsatisfying. 🤔 Our time is not a renewable resource.
@PaigeWestCo Жыл бұрын
Right!! That’s so much time! Then add in that we spend 4 months a year sleeping and already half the year is gone😅

Watching this made me realize I totally fell into the same anti hustle culture when I first left my 9-5 too!! The job interviewer sounds like a guardian angel to have told you his honest thoughts too. I’m really glad it ended up leading you down this path! ❤️

There aren't two choices. The idea that you are either into hustling or are anti-hustling is a common logical fallacy called and 'Either-or logical fallacy.' You don't have to be either hustling or going slow. There are many options to choose from in how you want to work and live.
@PaigeWestCo3 ай бұрын
That’s a fair point and I do agree with you! It isn’t either-or in any way and more like a balance in the middle. However, having been caught in the mindset of one side for a while, I found it beneficial to explore the other more fully. Definitely have landed somewhere more in the middle now! I took a class in college on different logical fallacies so this was a fun memory. I definitely want to dive back into them! Thanks for commenting 😊

@@PaigeWestCo There's an old saying 'Do everything in moderation.' I think it's generally true. Studies have shown most people thrive in an environment where they're challenged, but not overwhelmed.

Anti capitalism isn't something to fall victim to its the natural progression of a society that puts human beings first. Being out of the hustle doesn't mean you're life has to be slow... That's a personal choice.
@PaigeWestCo Жыл бұрын
Respectfully I disagree! I definitely did not intend for the takeaway to be that out of the hustle requires having a slow life though.

I wish life stopped when Covid happened for me and I worked from home instead I was working in the Covid. I see you without extra pay and plenty of PTSD. At least I got free food and Starbucks.
