The audience is singing their own "lyrics" to the instrumental that is being played. You know you have made it when the audience creates the singing part to your instrumental. Alex Lifeson is one of the greatest lead guitarists of all time and greatly underrated. Geddy Lee is the bassist and also plays keyboard and can play the keys (on the floor pedals while playing the base and singing), Neil Peart on drums ( sounds like EAR with a P and a T) is THE PROFESSOR (RIP). Go down this rabbit hole of 40 years of music.. you won't be disappointed and the Rush Army will show up in force if you do (your subs will definitely go up). They don't have any bad music though I'm partial to the 70's and early 80's. I can't even recommend the next listen for you as you can't make a bad choice, IMO. I do have my favorites (some of which you aren't ready for tho). :) They do more than one instrumental... yes.

As mentioned before, this song is a reference to Toronto Pearson International Airport (Y-Y-Zed) and according to Geddy Lee was a song about the struggles of leaving home for a tour, but the joy of the tour, and the gratefulness of returning to their home via YYZ, and getting a chance at normal life, for a brief period, before heading back out of YYZ, which is why the song is so up, down, up, deep down, and super up again.

Neil Peart (drummer) was the chief lyricist but Geddy (bass, keyboards, and vocals) would talk to Neil about the way the lyrics were written and let him know if he was not able to sing the was the lyrics were written. They were together for over 40 years and they truly loved one another, like brothers. From what I’ve read, after Neil passed away, not only did Alex (guitar) and Geddy decide to end the band but Alex has decided to never go on tour again.

2003, for some reason RUSH never went to South America when they toured. The fans down there in Brazil and Argentina put everyone else to shame. They are NUTS for Rock. A lot of bands didn’t make it down there until later in their careers. So these diehard fans had been literally waiting their whole lives to see their favorite bands live. 2003, this is what you are watching, RUSH for the very first time playing there. This is one of the few times an audience blew RUSH’s mind. Those people come from a soccer culture where they jump up and down and do soccer chants. They just transferred that energy to Rock. Now you know what RUSH is about live. Super clean, very Powerful live. Not to mention their high level musicianship and songwriting. FINALLY! The fans were beyond stoked for this to be happening! They were going to see RUSH live! You see the results. Thank goodness RUSH decided to film and record this landmark South American tour. The DVD they made with it is called RUSH in Rio and is one of the very best Rock live packages you can get. I’m fortunate enough to live in a city where RUSH was very well known and loved from the first album on. We are a RUSH stronghold and for other bands as well. So RUSH knew we were in from the very beginning. Came here on almost every tour, 95% of them I believe. They are one of those bands that you HAVE to see live! Just incredible in concert. I got to see them live on 18 tours over the decades. My city? San Antonio, TEXAS. The band loved our city beyond the shows and have said it many times. We were loyal to them and they were loyal to us. Just an incredibly great band! I’ll leave you with this. Do you like drums? There is a certain video that has been blowing minds all across the reaction channels. It’s Neil Peart drum solo- RUSH live in Frankfurt. He aways did a solo in concert. He writes most of the bands lyrics and is considered by many to be the best drummer in the world. The other 2 guys don’t suck either. Check it out and see if you can keep up. I guarantee you’ve never seen anything like this. Peace, Phil One more thing, I got to see him do this live many times!

Drummer Neil Peart (AKA "The Professor") is playing bells, wooden blocks, chimes, triangles, and probably more instruments in addition to his enormous drum kit; guitarist Alex Lifeson is playing a 6-string guitar, a 12-string guitar, and sound-effect pedals on the floor; and bassist/singer Geddy Lee is playing a bass guitar, a 6-string guitar, sound-effect knobs, keyboards, and bass pedals on the floor when his hands are busy with the keyboards. It's like 3 one-man-bands playing the same song. Amazing! kzbin.info/www/bejne/jKarhGCdn7KcjNk

Youte so lucky just starting on your beautiful Rush journey they are the GOAT guys enjoy every second.Like a fine wine or meal you need to slowly built up to the main course.I wouldnt even out YYZ in my top 10 of Rush tracks yet its still pretty amazing thats how high they have set the bar.Their top tier tracks will become evident with all the requests coming in but there are a few personal hidden gems I would recommend.Starting with the first album the three standout tracks are all brilliant and have bluesy rock vibes to them Working Man Before and After and especially the quite stunning Here Again Geddy produces one of his finest vocal performances and Neils silo is pure gold of of his best too.Such a great song and very different from what you would expect from Rush

This is what sets great bands ahead of the pack. When you have top of the mountain musicians at each instrument and top of the mountain lyrics and a top of the mountain vocalist. Rush has all of that. Make no mistake Alex, Geddy and Neal are all top of the mountain instrumentalist. Neal might be the goat at drums and wrote all the lyrics. Geddy might be the Goat at bass and vocals and Alex is extremely underrated at Guitar. Put it all together ❤ top of the mountain band especially live. Love your reactions please keep it up.

this song was brought to life in a jam session with Neil and Geddy. this was originally a bass and drum instrumental because Alex was doing some other things at the time. when he(Alex) got back into the studio he added his guitar to this absolute treasure and well.... you see the outcome. also the cymbol ride in the beginning of the song is the FAA sound beacon for the Toronto airport. Toronto is where they are from and everytime they play this song it reminds them of home! Awesomeness!!

Too bad that both of you missed them playing live except seeing them on KZbin. I was fortunate enough to see RUSH in concert back in 2010 with some friends.

Rush was the 1st rock concert I ever went to. I was in middle school and my best friends older brother was a huge Rush fan & got us into them. He had to take us to the concert. 1983 when tickets were cheap.

This is what happens when three of the best at their instruments get together. It's magical.

These guys have put out so much music, and if you listen to a song from 1975 and 1985, you wouldn't believe they are the same band. I don't know how, but three of the best musicians in the world managed to meet up in a corner of southern Ontario and make some of the best music ever heard.
