'YYZ' is the airport code for Toronto, Canada, where Rush was from... This instrumental came together in 1980, when Rush was recording the album 'Moving pictures', guitarist Alex Lifeson took a break... so Geddy Lee (bass/vocals) & Neil Peart (drums) jammed together and came up w/ the track 'YYZ' before Lifeson returned. It became an iconic Rush instrumental... The Rio show in Brazil in 2002 was a triumph for Rush - one of the biggest shows of their career at the time. It was also capped a return for Rush, cos they had been gone for several years. They had last toured in 1997 before that tour... Neil Peart was a very private man offstage. It was a shock when fans learned that his teenage daughter Selena Peart was killed in a car accident in 1997... A devastated Peart basically left Toronto and moved to California. But then, his wife Jackie got sick w/ cancer and passed away in 1998. Neil Peart had said he found himself in the darkest place he had ever been mentally... so he took off on his motorbike that year and traveled around North America for over a year... Rush went on hiatus. Geddy Lee & Alex Lifeson decided to do other things... By 2001, Neil Peart had finally stopped traveling and settled back in California w/ his new wife Carrie, who helped him thru his depression... but he still was unsure about playing music or writing lyrics again... Lee, Lifeson & Peart talked for months, but made no plans. Finally, Peart agreed to start work, jamming w/ Rush again, but it was very shaky after being gone for 4 years... Music for the 2002 album 'Vapor trails' came together hurriedly, as guitarist Alex Lifeson co-produced the record. Peart wrote lyrics and he was still affected by his losses, and later admitted that there was a lot of his private anger and confusion went into those sessions... he also wrote about his long journey on his bike to recovery. Finally, 'Vapor trails' was released in 2002 (The last Rush album was 'Test for Echo' in 1996) and was the heaviest Rush album in their catalog. Peart reluctantly agreed to tour dates... and thankfully, that first US show went well, and that was a rebirth for Rush, as their return brought in the biggest crowds of their career and culminated w/ the massive shows in Brazil. The Rio show was recorded and filmed for a live album & DVD concert.

Neil Peart’s Drum kit is actually two drum kits combined. The drum kit is a combination of Drum Workshop, Roland V-Drums a MIDI mallet and Roland foot triggers. The Triggers V-drums and MIDI mallet are connected to a rack full of samplers. Both Alex and Geddy are triggering synthesizer sounds from Moog Taurus pedals on the floor. Alex has 1 and Geddy has 2. Geddy is one at his keyboard station and the other is right where his mic stand is to the side of the keyboard rig. Rush does not do any playback or prerecordings. Rush either plays or triggers all synthesized sounds. Rush does not use any session or hidden players off stage like other bands

RUSH ON EH!!! *edit* I see you already reacted to Neil's drum solo in Frankfurt. Next check out Working Man Live in Clevland (2012). They start the song off different from the studio version, off their first album in 1974 (John Rutsey was the drummer for their first album), they put a Jamaican vibe on it, kind of as an ode to how Jamaican people are known for being hard workers, that have many jobs. They have so many musical influences, Jamaican being one, that it was only fitting that they added that flare to that song.

I mean Geddy manages to throw down some serious basslines, while playing keys and singing Neil's lyrics! One of those things by themselves would be no easy task!! The three of them together always made magic because they had a way of gettin down while complimenting each others instruments. Three nice guys creating something that will last for generations and beyond, while influencing some of the greatest musicians in the industry today. They were never mainstream and still to this day, you will be lucky to hear more than 5 Rush songs on any radio station, but they have one of the largest fanbases. We are everywhere preaching lyrics like, 'changes aren't permanent, but change is" and 'Quick to judge Quick to anger Slow to understand Ignorance and prejudice And fear, walk hand in hand" Rush can do no wrong. Together they are simply magical. RIP Neil.
