I’ve had a 2015 and 2019 and now a 2022 WRX. The 2022 is significantly better. The ride is better, stiffer, better delivery of power, better stock tune, better suspension and more fun than my two previous WRXs.

Sick and tired of hearing people gripe about minor things which are all subjective for the most part. The car still looks way better and is a better performer and all rounder than may of the other brands being made today. Every generation of the WRX/STI Subaru comes with you hear these negatives, yet people sill like them and buy them and then forget about it. The bug eye was seen as ugly and now many persons say it is their favourite shape. The minor issues will all grow on you people. get over it!

Exact water temp not needed. Modern cars shutter off the radiator until the coolant comes to engine temp, then opens up the radiator as it needs to bleed off heat when hot. This is for emissions, so the engine gets to operating temperature and efficiency . You cannot heat a liquid above its boiling point, so once the coolant/water mix gets to 210, it stays there. Oil temp is necessary as that warms up at a slower rate than the coolant, and would indicate the engine is running too hard if it warms significantly.

As someone who has always wanted a WRX but unable to get one until recently. I own the 2022 WRX Limited, I think what it comes with is very nice. I do think it looks like a mom car and I do hate that. My goal is to change things to make it look better and improve the outside looks of it. I think it drives wonderful. Again this is my first WRX so I have nothing to compare it to. I did want an STI back in the day but I know me and know that the STI was probably not worth it for me personally, because this car is also my daily driver. This car puts a smile on my face all the time and I love getting to wave at other WRX and STI owners. I wish instead of people hating on it would just let others enjoy the cars and be kind to other drivers in the VB and not look down on them because we don't own the VA. I love how most of the VA's look but, it didn't make sense for me to spend the same amount of money on an older car with miles when I can get a brand new car from factory and be the first owner. Maybe I am the only person that feels like this and that's fine too. I enjoy my VB and will continue to enjoy it. I hope that you love it and have fun in it. I know I do.

You said, “The best WRX is a 2007 STI.” Well yeah, that car’s MRSP is $48k updated to 2023 dollars. Just wait until you make 420whp for $3k and 3 hours worth of work, and still have the car be rock solid reliable and easy to live with on a daily basis. Then you’ll see why we say the VB is easily the best non-STI WRX overall, and honestly a better choice when compared to the VA STI if you want a fast daily driver that you can track a few times per year and never have reliability issues.

I’ve gone gone from the VA to the VB and you’re right it does feel more tame, but that’s something I appreciate about it as my daily commuter. Suspension is way softer than the VA, but still stiffer than most econo boxes and the power delivery is smooth, making the drives more tolerable, but still a fun car to rip around on weekends. The wheel arches is actually my favorite part of the design, but something needs to be done about the large grill and it’s funky shape rear end. My biggest complaint is too many touch screen controls. I want to be able to control AC without having to take my eyes off the road.

In my opinion with this platform. Non technical review of the newest WRX. The 23 is my third wrx limited and 4th Subaru since 2016 and it is my opinion that the car is maturing with me. Never had any issues with the cars aside from body damage from minor accidents and vandalism. I lease because I’m a city dweller with no garage and can’t get my shit together enough to actually purchase the car outright. Also since it’s a turbo, I wanna drive it like one and turn it in before my warranty expires. Started with a 2018, then traded in for a 2020 and was prepared to keep my 2020 but after seeing a few people look happy as hell in the newest generation I decided to make the change. What I mean by maturing with me is the previous versions were a little bit more raw sports feel. The 2023 feel like the 2020 went to the gym, worked out and gained a little muscle and then put on a business suit. Ride is more comfortable. Handling is sharper. Less road noise but you can still hear all the things (aside from a blow off valve that existed on previous generations) And my favorite part is feeling the turbo kick in in 6th gear. Always thought 6th was for getting better gas mileage on the freeway and never thought I would still be able to pull cars while in 6th. Was grinning ear to ear at how much you can still feel the turbo work while in top gear. This may be the one I keep forever but only because as I get older, it’s nice to have all the creature comforts combined with the sporty performance we have all come to love over the years. Not sure if it’s placebo effect after finding out about why they put the big black trim on the sides but my mind tells me that the car feels more aerodynamic with less resistance in the wheel well area. My mom has a cross trek so it’s cute to see them next to each other all matchy matchy, but I originally planned to keep the 2020 because of the diaper they added to 2022 WRX. After careful consideration from past experiences, I have come to the conclusion that I actually like the diaper booty because I live in the city and park on the street so I think if and when someone dings my bumper, I’ll be less irritated because it won’t damage the paint. Mom lives in the country so the new aesthetic fits well with the mild off-roading I’ll be doing while I climb her driveway. It’s not for everyone and I disliked it initially due to the new look but it has grown on me for sure. Still holding out for a revival of the sti wagon but this will have to do for now. Another thing that has changed is calibration if the rear view camera. When i first had the 2018 and 20 WRX s I would have to change my curb side door mirror position so I could avoid hitting curbs while parallel parking. I eventually got lazy and proceeded to hit every curb I could find. As wheels got rotated, the entire set filled up with curb rash. It wasn’t until the service guy told me the wheels are around $2k of the value of the car and my laziness depreciated the value of the car. The 23 rear view camera or the body design now allows for me to reverse into parallel spots without grazing the curb. Sometimes I have to get out and check and repark closer but I prefer this over hearing my rim scrape curbs. I’m sure that over time I will get used to the new angles but the old booty was WIDE! If you’re on the fence about this car I would say take a look at resell values. The WRX has one of the highest resell values out there so even with my wheel rash, I was able to use my last WRX to turn a bad financial decision around and transition to the new car with a very small increase in monthly payment. I entered my last two leases with negative equity but because of the high demand for used cars, the payoff of my last lease I estimate to be around $4k less than its resale value. When I told the dealership that I was going to buy the 20 in cash if they couldn’t match the monthly payment on the new car lease, they very politely gave me a new payment that I could agree to. Same exact lease but the 23 msrp after dealer addons was about 4k more than the 20. Haven’t done the math yet but 15 dollar increase over 36 months is far less than that and I got a brand new car that in my opinion has more features and is a better fit for me. So if you’re a current WRX owner who is on the fence, go test drive it. Let the cat do the talking. And also realize that the dealerships ant your used car because that means they get to sell two cars, a new one to you and your old one to someone who has to have analog air conditioner controls.

I bought the 2022 VB CVT. My first automatic in over 30 years. I’m getting old & traffic in Sydney (Au) isn’t getting any better so auto was the way to go. Mine has 3 driving modes selected via a steering wheel switch. The first, or grandpa mode is the most sedate. I normally drive in the second mode which is ok for general driving. The third mode is awesome fun. It sharpens the throttle response tremendously, the CVT uses 8 preset ratios which will shift automatically with the gear shift on the left side, ( right hand drive) & the push it over to the right & it’s full paddle shifter mode. Also the CVT has an electric handbrake. So far I’m liking the car. The looks I’m ok with. One thing I really wish the VB had is unequal length headers so a cat back exhaust upgrade would give it that adorable WRX rumble. I was considering an Invidia Q400 cat back but I’ve heard VB’s after this mod & it doesn’t give it the rumble.😢

So instead of ripping apart paint the gravel bounces of plastic….win win..wish people would stop banging on the fenders, think practically people…or buy the 21 down.

I appreciate your giving the Brembo upgrade high priority. Way too many builds overlook the crappy grey stock calipers IMO (and painting them is like putting lipstick on a pig). Still my favorite mod on my '21 limited, as much from a performance stand-point as aesthetic. To me the extra 4k for sunroof, leather seats, and SRH were worth it, but can see why some might not agree, especially if you want more personalized headlights at some point in the future. Premium still a better option than 17" wheeled base anyway. I tend to view the VB and WRX VA as a good starting point, where the STI has always been a more complete package, but all still with a ton of potential waiting to be unlocked.

Great video, i do like the new WRX but i understand why some hate the wheel gauding. Ive owned various Volvo XC70's and XC90 's and have gotten use to wheel gauding. My favorite WRX within buying reach to me is the GR chassis hatch but love the 22b!!

I cannot wait too see what you do with this vehicle and Josh bader Finally 2 guys who will push the limits of the FA 24 im also very happy you said you were going to eventually STI swap this car cuz I think besides fueling the 5 speed Subaru added a extra gear too n called it a 6 speed is going to be a weak point in making power as well very interested to see what you have instore I also want to see how these FA24s hold up over time running 300-500 Whp and WHEEL TORQUE will the engines hold up to the power after you have put 60-70k on the motor will hold up, awsome content keep up the great work man!!!

This is a Subaru WRX and is a rally inspired vehicle the black cladding on the fenders are to protect the fenders from rock dings I don't understand people and not liking so much of the car. The people that don't like the cladding aren't true subaru fans it's in the wrx DNA to look like this and you have yo understand the WRX history to get why the vehicle has the look it does. Plus in the nodding world people are doing things like this all over the world anyway. I think it's dumb to change anything on the WRX it's a master piece a work of art. Subaru did a beautiful job with the creation of this machine. No one is going to understand this car unless you are a true enthusiast of subaru

If that black trim was color matched to the paint it would look a lot better.

Seeing the new WRX, I really want to know exactly what Subaru was thinking; less power, more expensive, a CVT as an option. The Jetta GLI does everything better, and the ea888 engine is fantastic. Mazda 3 has insane torque and is a lot cheaper. New GTI suffers so much on its interior, but produces more power and has a very good transmission. Even a Camry has more power with its V6. For all the money people would spend to get serious performance out of this WRX, one could get an RS3 stock and just be better in every single way. Civic Si definitely has a better interior, and you could put serious power on it, and it will last a very long time. Supra is THE car to mod today, the engine and transmission is just godly and some of BMW/Toyota's best work. Regular GR Corolla blows this out of the water. I really don't know what market they were targetting but it seems that they've missed the mark with this new WRX

I agree 100% agree with you. Huge miss by Subaru. You shouldn’t have to put thousands of dollars in a new car to make it look decent and make it feel like a sports car.

I first got into the Subaru scene back in 2005 with my 2003 Wrx, then I got a 2005 STi in 2006. Afterwards, I got a 2012 WRX in 2012. I still own my 12 WRX. I did not see the need to upgrade the WRX to a newer model as I started to see the decline of the WRX/STi. Ever since the EVO died, the competition to improve didn’t exist anymore. Subaru’s quirky design is gone and is now mainstream. I bought a Supra in 2021 instead of a STi. I just couldn’t justify the impreza anymore. The performances back in the early 2000s were impressive. Now, even a Camry is faster than a WRX.

Just got a new 2023 Sapphire Blue WRX premium with 7 miles on it. First time owner or a WEX but my buddy had a really nice 2018 that had lots of mods. This car handles and moves so effortlessly and sharp sport tuned suspension is better than my mustang GT with suspension mods and my BMW 645CI. This is much smaller tho but less power. I’m interested to see how to extract some more power out of this baby and start modifying it.

Everything you don't like about the car, is exactly the way I felt. I test drove both 21 and 23, back to back to back. Went with the 21! Btw promote your giveaway bro. Just ordered a shirt!!!

I did the same thing you did. Test drove a 2020 and a 2022 back to back to back and ended up with a 2020 wrx. Not sure what Subaru was thinking with the VB. I’m trying to give it a chance but I still can’t over all the negative aspects regarding the looks and lack of emotion when driving it. For a new car you shouldn’t have to put thousands of dollars into it to make it look decent and make it feel like a sports car.

I wish you luck on the STI swap, because when I went to put the BRZ mTrans into an H6 outback; I had to find out the hard way that the starter is on the wrongside requiring a more than insignificant amount of fabrication.

Fairly Certian on this Trans the Starter is in the same location as the STI 6 Speed, COuld be wrong but pretty sure... If not shouldn't be too bad to make work
