When Subaru unveiled the brand new 2022 WRX, people immediately took to the comments to express how disappointed they were. The new WRX might be the most cutting edge iteration by far, but something is off. Why don’t the Subaru diehards love the new WRX? Is it really the “worst looking” one in history? We’re gonna examine the WRX’s history to find out.

If that plastic cladding was paint-matched, or carbon fiber like its concept, I think the hate on it's looks would've been less intense. But with Subaru trying to go for a "wilderness" look, it just looks cheap in execution. Also the GT trim being in CVT only is a whole different crime.

"OuR MaNuAl tAkE rAtE iS 74%!!!1!!" *makes the new top trim CVT only. It's the same thing as them axing the hatchbacks because they "couldn't afford to R&D a new chassis for both sedan and hatch". But they'll sell you an Impreza hatch or crosstrek...and expect enthusiast to just buy the sedan, because what other option do you have? AWD, Manual, LSD front and rear with E-Diff in the middle and 6 pot brembos for 36k? No remaining competition.

@@Gameplayery I DD a modified 05 WRX and I was pretty anti-CVT before we got our Ascent. After driving it a bit, its not as bad as you'd think, especiallyin high traffic areas. The only thing I hate about it is the fake shifting. When you full throttle it, though, it holds the RPM in the perfect spot to get the boost you want. It accelerates pretty decent for a 4600 lb car. Dont get me wrong, I'd still rather drive a manual, but CVTs arent all bad. And they get decent gas mileage too. On a 2000 mile journey in our Ascent, we got an average of 22-23. There was a bit of 80+ in there, that didn't help. Not bad for a turboed vehicle that size. Don't worry, I still have my WRX, and I still have tons of fun in it.

@@lamakicker69 I'm a VA WRX owner though. But I own mine as a sentimental value. I think the reason why they still sell is because the aftermarket parts for it still exists. Easy to find and boost up. When I was taking my On-The-Job training at a friend's shop, I've seen engine set-ups of old STI's being "replicated" in the new. But based on what the owners in my place tell me, they do it just for the feels and sound. The community is lovely ironically. They've met with Evo owners and shared beers. its not the same engine as far as the WRX, it's direct injected with a twin scroll turbocharger, equal length headers and detuned, just adding a few bolt ons and flex fuel you can gain +100whp going from 220-230 at the wheels to 350+ on the stock motor safely. the new gen will also be similar to last gens FA20 but a 2.4 liter and twin scroll/equal length headers and also heavily detuned but a lot to be left on the table for tuning and aftermarket parts. I'd guess it would push over 400whp safely on stock block as I've seen a few of the Ascent 2.4 liters swapped making that with just a tune.

When I saw the new generation online I liked general styling. I didn’t mind the cladding around the wheels but thought the back bumper section was too heavy and ugly. When I saw it for the first time at the Subaru dealer while my Outback was in for service, I was interested and i liked the rear end. I ended up test driving it and the next day traded the Outback in for a 2022 WRX prem ( manual of course in world rally blue pearl ). I’m in love with the WRX. It’s raw, edgy and stands out from the crowd. I feel alive again after driving a competent but dull workhorse for the past 6 years. To be honest I always thought I would keep it until it fell apart but I’m all about the WRX. Bravo Subaru. Now bring us an STI.

There's never been a bad WRX, but the new one is probably the best everywhere but styling (I'd put it second because you can't beat the 22b). The improvements to the chassis/suspension/engine tuning are immediately apparent when you drive one, and it still has that "it looks like an economy sedan until you get close and realize something's weird about it" vibe. I've had multiple owners of Impreza-based WRX's come over and compliment it already. The clutch-protection and lack of boost in 1st gear hurts the spec sheet, but the moment you hit 2k in 2nd it will put its foot in your back. The brakes aren't confidence inspiring, but on a tight back road you barely need them with how much traction it has. It's a good car.

Honestly, for some reason i just love Subaru's. Maybe it's the rally, maybe it's the flat 4, maybe it's the nostalgia from Colin Mcrae's rally game on the ps1. But I finally was able to own my own subaru which is a 2014 wrx hatchback in silver. Definately would have prefered an older style but after saving it from going into metal garbage bin and bringing it back to life it became more than i thought it could be. Its sexy, it purs, it burs, it cries and it grinds... Alot. But anyway a subaru is a subaru, either you hate it, or you're part of the cult. 😁 there is no turning back. Back to the video though. Idk about the newer generations, everyone has their preferences but i'd rather take the Fa20 and throw it in a GC8

Mitsu's auto line-up might add 10% to their income. They've always been a heavy industry/aircraft company and have stated that's where their focus will continue to be. If the auto line fails, so beit. I mean, look at what happened to the Eclipse and the outcry over that for the last 4+ years. They don't care, unless it stops making money; about 15-20% profit/vehicle line.

@@DjJtown - pretty much Mitsubishi Auto is in the hands of Nissan's Japanese elite who want the brand D-E-A-D. The "Lancer as a crossover" is already here in the Outlander Sport, soon to be based on the Qashqai / Rogue Sport platform. Don't expect an Evo vs. STi rematch.... If Nissan really wanted to keep Mitsu Auto around a Mirage Evo (with Nissan's 188hp T-1.6L from the last gen Juke and Sentra Turbo) would've surfaced. Then a T-1.2-1.5L 3-pot to compete against the Yaris GR would've followed.

Idk if it was the salesman or the manager of the dealership but it felt very red flaggy so I got a camry instead from a different dealer in a different city altogether with no hassle.

I live 15 minutes from the location of that bridge at 5:45. It's at Tyler State Park in Pa and I go to Tyler State all the time. That's frickin awesome. I've seen a couple pictures and video clips from places near me in Donut medias videos. There was a picture of an e36 (I think it was an e36, it was so sort of bmw) that was at a sushi place called Sakura sushi in Bensalem, Pa about 20-25 mins from me in another video. It's frickin sweet to see these places that I've visited so many times in my favorite channels videos.
