The first half of song is loathing and asking for the floods to wash the earth clean. The middle is obviously the rain and rage of the storm and the beautiful outro seems to symbolise hope and rebirth after the carnage. Musically, these guys were all geniuses.

Some solos are fast, some solos are slower and fit the flow, but this solo is near perfection with the timing, the flow, and buildup. I remember hearing this song when I was like 14 and lost my damn mind!

Personally I think this song is Dimebag Darrell's masterpiece. That solo will make your jaw drop, and the outro solo will make you tear up knowing what happened to Dimebag.

I always think of the progression of a storm as I’m listening to the song. The ominous clouds moving in at the beginning. The storm hits and as the song progresses and then the light rain in the end is after the worst part is over and the last guitar bit is the storm passing and the sun peeking through the clouds in the end. That’s how it plays in my head.

The spoken words and singing (all the vocals) are done by Phillip Anselmo Panteras lead singer. He can do a plethora of styles you haven't heard yet.

The bass player is going off during that guitar solo. 👀

What really gets under my skin is that kirk hammet got guitarist of the year in 1996 with reload but on another note vinnie paul got drummer of the year dimebag got screwed his talent was beyond perfection

This song is deeper than most can understand. Guitar sings part of the lyrics.

The solo bit at 9:40 is a tune Dime played in his youth iirc.

I’ve always thought of how sad this song lowkey is because he talked about washing away the earth. He also recorded this song in Louisiana, so I look at it as kind of a manifestation for what was to come in 2001

If you take time to Google the lyrics. Read it over a few times and you'll see Floods is more or less a metaphor for what was going on in the singers life back in 1996 and after. I won't ruin it for you. You're talking to a 41 year old dude who has been listening to Pantera for over 28 years. I don't have anything on anyone other than time and experience with the Greatest Heavy Metal Band of all time.

The reason why this song is so great is because it is so non-Pantera. The tone that Dimebag chose for this song is so haunting and beautiful !!

Love your reaction… but I have to disagree: as a pantera fan since the early 90ies!!! i cant believe that this song was requested the most: imo this song and the whole album is the weakest pantera album! The cowboys from hell album especially: the sleep, shattered, the art of shredding, domination… is a fucking masterpiece, opening a new metal era, showing how fucking talented each band member was! Also the vulgar display of power and far beyond driven album were outstanding! But floods and this album: imo - weak and no ride at all!

10’s, drag the waters, war nerve, floods, southern trendkill and suicide note… Pantera literally never made a bad album.
