I finally found a giant shell! Bucket list horse conch shell + other beach goodies at Stump Pass

I finally found a giant shell! I have been searching for a big ol' horse conch for well over a year now. I had no idea that today was going to be the day I finally found a giant shell! It was all thanks to some recommendations and to my snorkel mask! And my eternal curiosity about what I might find.
I did find a giant lightning whelk shell over on Captiva, and that was super exciting, but I have really been searching for a big horse conch and my wait is now over! I knew eventually I'd find it. I really had no idea how happy a shell could make me.
The tiny shells are great and I was psyched when I found my first wentletrap, but thre's something about finding a giant horse conch shell that just can't be replaced with anything else. I am so thankful that I got it all on video and that I can share my beach joy with everyone else!

My father passed away in 2011, he lived with his girlfriend Carly.... He found the Horse Conch Shell I have while I was growing up, it is over 30"s long it is one of the Largest Horse Conchs I believe to be found. He must of been a predator to be contended with that is for sure. Horse conch meat is not edible as it is relativity DARK CONCH MEAT AND SO TOUGH any amount of beating/using a meat tenderizer will ever make it edible. This Mollusk if ever found "SHOULD BE A PRIZE FOR YOUR COLLECTION" Congratulations to you on finding one they are so rare and are not as beautiful as many of the other shells people find, but to me are one of the "PRIZED POSSESIONS OF MOST SHELL COLLECTORS" in their collections.

A 30" horse conch must be absolutely enormous! The one I found was only a little over 12". I'm hoping my luck will be better now that I've found at least my first one. I'm so happy to add it to my collection :)

@@SWFBeachLife I went and measured the shell it is Actually 28 3/4"s long from tip to end. It takes up the whole bottom shelf of my corner curio cabinet sticking out about 2"s each side. I swear my dad measured it when I was a little girl and it was 30"... Memories and time must be catching up with me. I do know he packed it with cotton and the foot. Can't remember the technical name thought it was epercium something like that, lol.

@@bmiller7017 Like I said my father found it, sadly hating to say our front yard was always full of shells. Honestly it was how my father made a living for awhile and how we ate most of the time. So when I say "HORSE CONCH Meat" isn't edible I say it from trying... The Horse Conch I have was in the Local Newspaper, Key Largo, Fl is where he found it. I don't know which reef he was on. I would also like to say how much I appreciate this channel, she brings back so many memories of how I learned about the names of shells and actually touching them. For people who don't have the opportunity anymore we get to enjoy shell hunting with her. I will take a picture of my prize possesion honestly for everyone to see. I honestly wish my dad hadn't given in to removing it's skin/bleaching it. I just wish my son LOVED IT AS MUCH AS I DO. And how rare they are and sadly will probably become extinct due to global warming, pollution and habitat invasion by non-native species.

I found my one and only giant horse conch 20 years ago in NC of all places. After watching your video I took mine off the mantel to admire it (again...Lol) and heard something rattling in it. An oyster shell fell out! Never knew it was in there. Congrats again on your lovely find.

The nerd in me wants to show the location I'm at and how far I've walked - it's the kind of info I'd want to know if I were watching. Stump Pass is the only beach that has given me a big horse conch, so I would definitely recommend this beach. Just make sure to bring your snorkel mask!

My daughter and I have recently started watching your videos, so when we went to a flea market today and found several containers full of shells, we were so excited! One week ago I did not know the names of these shells and now I am naming them as you pick them up. I have my favorites now too. Turkey wings, Lace and Apple Murex, Angel Wings, Spiny jewel box❤️They are all beautiful. What a wonderful find for you today. Your horse conch is a beauty.

My grandmother found a horse conch many many yrs ago, while in Cuba. It was huge. She used it as a door stop. It stayed there for years. She passed away at the tender age of 98. It was her prized possession and her story on how she found it was told many times. I have no idea where it's at now. But I have many shells and gems she collected over the yrs. Great find! P.S..I'm a new subscriber. 😆
