Thank you for sharing. I somehow missed your "Wristwatches of MacGyver" video until now. Your new watch pretty much captures what MacGyver wore. I bought my MacGyver watch, a Victorinox Original, in 1997. It is quartz with the black case, red bezel and white dial. It is now on a black and red French Marine Nationale strap and I wear it when I need a beater watch, although the original movement has been replaced.

You couldn't have told me that wasn't MacGuyver's watch. It looks perfect. I'm glad there is someone out there who still remembers the show and its resourceful and inventive main character. That show probably sold more watches and pocket knives than any other advertising in the last century. Good work. Say hello to Pete Thornton and Penny Parker for me. 😉

I still have my Timex Camper from 1985/6, that my Grandpa gave me for my 12th birthday. My now 13 year old daughter has been wearing it for about a year now❤ Edit: sehs watched both the new and old series. It started after the first 2 episodes of the reboot, when I told her that there was another MacGyver from when i was about her age (a few years ago now, obviously). Like all the other reboots, she preferred the original😂

I just picked up two of these based off your review. I kept the green one and gave the black one to my wife. Mine is a piece of crap, pain in the rear setting the time accurately. I like the minute hand to line up perfectly with the minute mark and when I go to push the crown in, the fkn minute hand jumps forward or back of the minute line and frustrates tf outta me. Any ideas how to fix this? Looking forward to the mod video for these less-than-average watches. I do want to note that, even though these are made in China, you CAN channel MacGyver energy with these mediocre watches. I built a collapsible wagon with radar jamming and nuclear bomb disarming capability. All I had to use was a roll of baling wire, a few sticks laying in my yard, an old TRS-80 computer laying around, and a jitter bug flip phone some old lady threw at me.

Mark, i have a Timex mechanical wind-up Army watch that looks extremely similar to your "MacGyver" watch, that i picked up 1990ish at the local army surplus. My main wristwatch is a Victorinox that's pretty basic, as it was my F-i-L's retirement gift that he left in it's tin for ten years before I found it. The original leather band had dried out a broke within a month of first wearing it, so I replaced it with a County Comm NATO band in plain black with stainless hardware.
@simonh6371Ай бұрын
Maybe a bit off topic as it's not a McGyver watch but I highly recommend Wenger watches. You can get one with the same specs as a Victorinox equivalent, but for around 40% of the price generally, plus they have a wider range than Vic, including some very understated ones.

The best Watch that matches what you are looking for is a Seiko SNZG model line. It has a workhorse Seiko automatic movement and is a proper 42mm diameter case which is more in line with a man size wrist and not the way too small 38mm Millie watch you showed in your video.

I like it, perfect to knock around. It makes me miss my Timex "Camper", the original mechanical one. They were designed with the military in mind. I’ve ‘collected’ over 20 Timex Field watches (majority are Expeditions and 4 are Weekenders). MK-1 is in my purchase list, but the one that’s most affordable here in India has a small 29mm diameter with resin case and no Indiglo. $35 is what it retails for and I’ve not been able to convince myself to go for it.
@jotr.9786Ай бұрын
I do prefer a still case even with casios, it can have it's drawbacks, but steel is more harder than plastic so it's more resistant, and i do understand that machining the steel case is a more expensive process, than just to use a mold for the plastic case, so to some extent it is justified to be more expensive.

@markcoffman494 no standard quartz movement is particularly expensive, and they are all essentially accurate. But you're talking about a field watch for the most part. So it's not about the movement as much as it's about the construction, durability, water resistance. That watch may look the part from a distance, but it's not something to be trusted.
