I finally got a Ultrasonic Cleaner, unboxing and test. Is it as good as they say?

I didn't finish the video yet, so I don't know if you've done this or not, but I use normal water in the basin, but put different degreasers/oils/solvents in glass jars to clean smaller parts, and put those jars in the cleaner. The ultrasonic waves pass through the glass and clean all of the parts incredibly well. It doesn't work very great on thick greases, so I normally scrape as much off as I can first. I've had mine about a year and wish I would have gotten the biggest one, instead of the 6 liter, which seems about the same size as yours.

This is a 6L unit, its really great. Yes I do plan on using water wit containers with other liquids for cleaning. Recently did a container test to see what would work the best.

It is a great addition to any workshop for sure. I know the guy from Machinery Restorer uses his most of the time during his restoration videos. As long as you use the right cleaners/degreasers, it'll achieve good results just about every time. Looks like it did a good job cleaning that carb. Looking forward to more videos of this ultrasonic cleaner in action. Is that Robin engine a future restoration video?

I can’t believe with all the work you do that you waited this long to buy one! Welcome to the club! I think you will find it a valuable addition. As I’ve seen in the comments the fluid is key depending on what you are cleaning. I found a get tip for rust removal from another great thank YT’er Steve’s Small Engine Saloon for rust removal using toilet bowl cleaner. As you become more familiar with it please keep us posted on what fluids you think work most effectively? Another great video and nice looking cleaner 👍👍👍👍👍

I have seen so many of Steve’s Small Engine Saloon's videos haha he is really awesome, and thank you I'll give the toilet bowl cleaner a shot. I have seen him use containers with gasoline in and sealed up, I will probably go the same route as nothing cleans as good as gasoline.

@@AJRestoration I use gasoline and it works very well. I have also used Sea Foam that I buy in 1 gallon cans that plays nicely with the gaskets, o-rings and seals on small engine carburetors. I use it and let it sit after using it to let all the particles settle. I then carefully pour off the liquid and reuse it. Way more expensive but as said it plays well with the non-metallic components. I love Steve and have been watching him for many years. I have probably watched your content almost as long as his. I enjoy watching your plating of the hardware for restoration but most of what I do is to get it back running. As tempting as it is, I couldn’t charge for the additional time involved. I still enjoy watching you do it and always impressed with the finished product 👍👍👍👍👍

I use ultrasonic cleaners frequently. As a best practice keep your paws out of any operating unit regardless of the power level. if you intend to clean aluminum or anodized parts avoid agents that contain sodium hydroxide. Heat is a good thing. Hearing protection is a good thing. They operate in the upper frequencies... same frequencies we tend to loose first. They tend to clean best in direct line of site. You will get a lot of good use out of it.

You got the one i plan on getting.sometimes you will have to get the guts out of the carb, watch james condon when he uses his here on youtube. Also i think like close to 30 minutes is best for some carbs, depending on the level of dirt in it.

@Failure_Is_An_Option I agree, I actually put my finger in the cleaner while it was running for a second or two and it was quite unpleasant, felt like a stinging sensation, like a really eerie unpleasant feeling. Do not recommend it.

Haha holy water and general shop degreaser sold by most automotive shops. This one is called "oil away" its manufactured by a local business.

Personally I don't think they do that great of a job... Sure they get things clean, but in my experience not any cleaner than if you do it by hand... The only benefit was it was a bit, not much, faster. But that's just my opinion 😁👍 hope this works great for you.

They save hours upon hours when dealing with intricate objects like jewelry. Mind you, they can also shake gemstones out of their setting. This is however a *good* thing; if an ultrasonic cleaner can pop a gemstone out of its setting so would regular wear, and better the stone come loose where it can be easily located and securely reset than while the wearer is walking around.

The thing is these carburetors have tiny passages that cant be reached with any brushes and so on. These ultrasonic cleaners do a great job on cleaning those passages of dirt and grime. That is extremely important if you want the carb to work as intended. For less intricate parts its probably just easier to soak it in gasoline and brush it clean and rinse in soapy water.

You need to get the thing much cleaner before you put it in the bath. Also, take it apart first. The crunching noise as you moved the butterfly was not nice.

@@Ea-Nasir_Copper_Co A quick rinse under the tap to knock off the worst of the clag is what you call a waste? I have an ultrasonic tank, and by being careful with what I put in it, I can reuse the fluid up to probably twenty times. That is how you avoid waste. That stuff is not cheap.

I tried to find the dirtiest carburetor and did not clean it on purpose, I thought it could be a true test to see how good it cleans and to be honest, I was really surprised, after 20 minutes split into 10 minute sections only to see the progress. It was basically completely clean and if I was surprised was a understatement. Yes getting rid of most of the grime beforehand is probably better since the ultrasonic cleaner would not have to run for so long and thus probably last longer. Either way, the end result would be more or less the same.
