If someone wants to buy this fight stick, the 30$ modification with an original Sanwa lever (adding cables it is around that) is really a worthwhile one. The original stick is too loose and will backfire every other time. Other than that, the fight stick is one of the best for the Nintendo Switch, and the single best if you are interested in a wireless fight stick. Including this modification, at about 120$, it is still great.

its nice to see someone who was "the dpad makes or breaks the controller" allow their minds to open up to alternative possibilities. I myself prefer the "touch dpad" of the steam controller ; customizeable deadzones and overlap regions allow me to basically set how sensitive the diagonals are to avoid accidental inputs, while still working similarly to a dpad by using the thumb.

I have a PDP Versus Wired Controller which has some really awsome microswitches in the D-Stick and the buttons so feels just like mech KB buttons, the d-stick feels just like a proper arcade joystick, so good for obviously fighting games, but also it's amazing for shmups, platformers and tons of arcade games on Mame for example, it's also perfect for Neo Geo games as it is identical to the Neo Geo original gamepad with its microswitches. Would relly love a retro handheld with a d-stick and mech buttons, a Joycon with a mech d-stick would be nice too.

It's a mixed blessing that the hitbox layout became so popular. It's an ingenious idea, and it established the idea of alternatives like mixbox. Yet at the same time, the original button layout of hitbox is incredibly cramped for no good reason, forces bad angles on wrists, and often leads to cramped up shoulders. But the popularity of hitbox lead to a bunch of clones or inspired controllers all copying that cramped button layout. I ended up building my own, increasing the distance between direction buttons and action buttons; just separating them by 5cm made a huge difference in posture. Regarding the directions when using hitbox and getting used to them, it pretty much makes no sense outside of classic fighters with up being jump. For me the trick to getting used to the hitbox layout was to think of it as duck and jump, instead of down and up. Some moves require a bit of mental translation, but the fighters I play really do not have many special moves involving the up direction. For using the hitbox on platformers, it would probably make more sense to just swap up and down. Sanwa buttons should allow those swaps, unless the cables are soldered directly instead of using friction fit connectors.
@WulffDen3 жыл бұрын
I could swap Up and Down in the ultimate software or in the Switch settings itself, but honestly i rarely ever press UP in Mario. Just to grab a VINE sometimes. It would be totally possible to get used to it, but I'm fine with what I've got
@FrederikSchumacher3 жыл бұрын
@@WulffDen Oh, sorry, this wasn't meant to be another "just get a hitbox" comment. I think it's great you built your own and customized another controller to work better for you. And made these videos about it, too. On another note, I've noticed increased fatigue in my finger joints after long periods of using arcade buttons compared to my everyday, all-day use of a keyboard with Cherry MX switches. Do you know of the O-ring trick for Cherry MX switches? Putting soft rubber O-rings on the stems in the keycap to reduce the bottom-out noise and impact force? It also ever so slightly reduces the travel and makes Cherry MX feel just a tiny bit more responsive.
@rickseiden13 жыл бұрын
My Dream controller: Pro style with the following: amiibo support, vibration that I can actually feel, motion control that actually works and, turbo support for all the buttons that allows turbo on more than one button at a time (that I can activate from a dedicated turbo button). Ideally it would wake up the Switch, too, but I can live without that. I've been modding (moding?) my controllers so they have two switches and two buttons on them. The switches control the joystick press. In one position the joystick press works and the buttons don't, and in the other position the button does the joystick press and the joystick press itself doesn't work. I have one switch for each joystick. I do this because I have a tendency to start squeezing the controller when I get into combat situations, and end up pressing down on the joysticks. So, in Zelda for instance, I end up couching or looking through my slate in the middle of a battle. But with the joystick presses turned to the buttons, that doesn't happen, and when I need to crouch or look through the slate, I can.

For me: keyboard inputs are not intuitive, take a ton of getting used to, and does not feel natural. The 2 things that keyboard and mouse controls are severely lacking are analog control for the left stick, and constant rotation for right. Using WASD limits you to Dpad controls, and a mouse can only turn for as wide as your mouse pad is.

before anyone buys this product, the macro functionality does NOT emulate analog movements, but only d-pad movements, so if you're going to use them for a game that doesn't use d-pad movement such as Smash Ultimate, then the macro feature will most likely be useless for said game. that is my only complaint about the arcade stick. had this not been the issue, I'd be in love. still a solid product though, but it's most likely gonna take a huge amount of time getting used to if you've been using a gamecube-esque controller all your life.

But, if you like a more solid feel and a deeper sound, they are worth seeking out. Everyone loves Sanwa... But after you've used Seimitsu buttons (and sticks, for that matter), Sanwa will feel like cheap plastic mush (especially where the sticks are concerned! (out of the box)). Can't understand the desire to use keyboard keys for Mario and Smash. But hey, you do you.

for some games being able to hold back and forward at the same time. Like it makes it effortless to do forward back motions, pretty sure its less strain on your hand in the long run. honestly I never use it but it presents a competitive advantage in some situations. I know a certain fighting game players hitbox controller was banned for being unfair.
