Welcome to SOMA! You might have heard of this game before, it's a legendary horror game that has been highly rated by almost everyone! However I have never played it before because I've only gotten into horror games in the last 3 years. Thus I decided to finally play this legendary horror game and I absolutely love it! Just wanted to say that yes, tracer fluid is absolutely real. It is basically just Barium and water. They give it to you right before imaging tests like an x-ray or CT scan. It allows the imaging device to see things like organs and other soft tissue these imaging machines wouldn't normally be able to see. Also a fun fact, when it's injected into your blood stream it makes you feel like you pissed your pants! :D

So glad you finally decided to play this. I recommended it about a year ago when you started playing other games and asked for suggestions. At the time though you said you didn't want to do long playthroughs and prefer smaller, bitsized games. Glad you finally came around to it though, it's easily one of my favorite games and left an extremely memorable experience. It's always interesting watching others play it and hearing their thoughts on the whole existential identity concept.

It made me to re-think a few things in my life, and changed my thoughts about... //*END GAME SPOILERS BELOW*// DON'T READ IT, UNLESS YOU KNOW HOW THE GAME ENDS ... immortality and what I've myself would've wanted. I was really interested in this kind of immortality before this game. But now, when I think that "I", my mind, myself can be just copied and not transferred to a digital world. I absolutely love SOMA. The reason why, is the fact, that SOMA was the first game in a long time that managed to make me feel a certain way. Not the horror part, more the whole sceneries - something about it gives me such an uncomfortable feeling. God, I love this game.

This game makes me think of a "fun" thought experiment I once created: what if my consciousness dies everytime I fall asleep and a new copy of it is born everytime I wake up (or dream)? I'd get killed every night and a new "me" would occupy my body every morning. The fun part is that no one could tell the difference.

I think the idea is that they think the original person would only have regrets. Anything they achieve from that point on would not be “saved” or copied. The world has ended here. They could stick around and until food runs out, others go crazy, the ark gets launched, maybe see their copy living a better existence than themselves. Or, they could choose to put their faith in the idea that the ark will work. Their copy never having to know the original wound up as Amy did…. Would you want to see your “original self” pity unplugged by insym? Or would you rather your copy be woken up in the ark and told “yeah dude, you called it quits right after the last thing you remember” it’s selfish and selfless all in one. Incredibly deep for a video game!! Love it!!

Oh god this game really effed me up. I didnt realize what I was until Half way or 3/4th the way thru the game. You get scared from the game AND then realise that there s a whole other horror youre facing mentally... I hate horrors but this game for sure made me go " Yo.... what the fuuck" after And try to understand

I just wanna tell you you're such a fun and charismatic KZbin personality! I love the stories people tell in horror games but get wayyyyy to scared by jumpscares. I've been able to enjoy a lot of games I wouldn't normally be able to through your streams! You're kind of loud, but that's a good thing- it makes me feel less scared and alone so I can have fun enjoying the story! You also just have interesting commentary, and your passion for games is really clear- I'm really impressed by the technical aspects of Soma too, but seeing you highlight stuff like shadow or lighting or unnecessary animations (ex. Toilet) or floppy physics is a real joy. Not only that, but your philosophical commentary on the themes has been really interesting so far! I would definitely upload myself too. if you eeh yourself right after the scan planning to live on as the copy, your copy will believe it worked no matter what. So it is a paradox, one part of you will end to exist and another part of you will live on as you not only thinking, but knowing it is the continuation of your other part existence. So you will both live on and not at the same time.

I played this game back when it was released on my crappy computer with 9 FPS, After I got a new PC last week I replayed it for full experience, I love this game and the story line. I didn't even know you played it Insym but now I'm diving in to watch your playthrough! And man... There should be SOMA 2 where you play as Catherine and the game is about how Pathos II was created, Just the prequel before the disaster. It will tell us a whole lot about the story.

For Insym: There's a way around the copy system not being "You". Which is to connect your conscious mind and your copy together while you are still alive, basically one mind in two "brains". The same way our current mind is divided between two lobes of one brain. Then if the original physical brain dies and the new artificial one survives there is an uninterrupted stream of consciousness, which means it's still "you". And not a copy of you. The same way you're still "You" if you get into an accident that destroys a part of your brain.

Actually insym , now we have a technology to scan a brain , mapping it and store it into an actual digital storage , BUT it was just a little piece of rat brain and it sized almost a Terrabyte to store it... So surely enough to say we don't have right technology to store or scan a human full brain at right now , but who knows on future?

Searching Catherine's room suggests why she is so unreactive to it all and that they are 'just robots' is also her way of dealing with it all and probably some asocialness and 'compassion fatigue'. They aren't people to her, just simulations. She didn't manipulate Simon as much as she just knows that a certain hopelessness must be accepted, hence why it is Simon that has to perk her spirits up at some points in the game. Like she doesn't even believe her herself is alive at this point. Cogito ergo sum be damned.

Got the game gifted to 100% it and it was just purly amazing. Great atmosphere, even at one point at the end where I had to do breaks because I was scared. I was even so good at the game I broke something at the start and had to restart because I could not interact anymore xD

This game is all about existential horror. It has an interesting plot twist to it. I highly recommend downloading the SOMA mod known as SCP-001 When Day Breaks and play it, too.

The thing about those guys killing themselves... Think of it like this: you make a clone of yourself and one version goes to live on the ARK and the other version stays on earth to die. Obviously you want to be on the ARK. But which of the two are you gonna end up being? This one guy decided that if you kill your body during the copying process, you are guaranteed to be the version that goes to ARK. Kinda like the main character. Everything just goes dark for a second and then poof! you're there. But obviously we can't know for sure if it actually worked the way they were expecting it to for the people who killed themselves. Maybe their contentiousness just stopped and that's it. Reminds me of the dilemma in the movie Prestige.
