I had an idea for a new chess variant: Rotating Chess. After every second turn the board is rotated 90 degrees meaning the forward direction is now either left or right in relation to the pieces/the new upper side of the board (I hope that makes sense). It’s only a small change that also only affects pawns, but I feel like it would really change how the game is played (although I am still trying to think of other things to add to this idea)

ok but wouldnt that make pawns promote really quickly? i mean first rotation and the pawn on the side of the board promotes, next rotation and youre 1-2 moves away from promotion on most pawns, third rotation and the other pawn on the side of the board promotes etc etc
