Yeah I was on edge the entire time I played it. What really got me was the mix of maze-like environments filled with things designed to kill the player, and zero healing items practically. There was one moment early on where I had no ammo and no healing, running around with 10 HP desperately scrounging anything I could. I missed the stimpak recipe which made my run hell. Going back to New Vegas even out in the middle of the wasteland I felt like I was back in the safe space.

Getting the gold? That’s not the hard part. It’s letting go. Okay you experience the satisfying disappointment of needing to leave behind the gold, intrinsically tied to the themes of the DLC. Now you can know that if you have a stealth boy (there are a couple throughout the area, I know there’s one in the police station) you can hide behind that generator to the right when you leave the vault and then you can just let him walk by and sneak out before the shield goes back up. He’ll lock himself in the vault and you walk away rich having not learned a damned thing

In a sense, it is "kind" of easy, first maneuver around the generator as slow as possible (which you'll probably be over cumbered so don't worry about that) then as he's turning to the terminal, bolt it for the door, if you failed, you'll face the infuriating feeling of having to reload a save, over and over AND OVER

There's an unclaimed lockbox in camp forlorn hope. If you have 10 strength, and both carry weight perks, you can carry 10 gold bars at a time. Go to the 38 once to drop off all your gear, then you will take four trips in between forlorn hope and the 38. When you're done (in about 5 minutes), you will have 37 gold bars safely stored in the Lucky 38. Or you can just leave them in the lockbox, they don't despawn and nobody takes em.

A fun thing with Dead Money is that basically the lower level you are; the easier the DLC is. Running in there at around lvl 4 when all the enemies are so easy compared to running in at lvl 50 when the enemies are literal tanks.

What? Just aim for their limbs, man. Blow of an arm or a leg, and they don't get back up. It's what I did in my most recent playthrough, and I think I was at or near 50 when I got there. @@Greyspecies9999 Hardcore isn't really all that difficult. Occasionally check your food, water, rads and occasionally sleep, and you'll be fine. Food also works to heal in a fight, so don't be afraid to eat if you need a stimpack. Also choose what build you plan for (Ballistic, energy, or melee), and prioritize the ammo you use accordingly. I also suggest the perks Strong Back, Pack Rat, Long Haul, Heavyweight, and Burden to Bear. Pack Rat are especially useful for Food Water and Ammo, (which you'll have a hard time running out of thanks to cooking the meat you'll commonly find). Heavyweight is also very useful for if you want to use more than pistols and rifles. You can still take as much ammo as you want, just remember to stash away the ammo for weapons you aren't using back at the Lucky 38. TLDR, just treat it like your standard fallout experience, but stash your ammo as well as your weapons, remember to eat/drink/sleep, and carry a few doctors bags at any given time.

One of my favorite things about this DLC is that the deep droning noise you hear when you trigger the Gala event isn't just ambience. It's the air raid sirens that went off when the bombs fell and the Sierra Madre went to shit. The reason it sounds like that is because it's been 200 years and they decayed due to not only the time but the parasitic effects of the cloud.
@glowhoo92262 ай бұрын
So the ghost people were former workers who got exposed to the gas leak(caused by Big MT)and Big MT sent them hazmat suits. The suits were uncomfortable and bulky, and the gas corroded the locks on them, forcing them to lock shut. The suits also have trauma harnesses in them. This is why the ghost people shrug off any wounds except dismemberment. The trauma harness won’t let them die. It was all a giant experiment by Big MT.

Got a great apartment in old world blues and talking clothes. Ok the toaster is not gonna make you toast. Old money I got everything not nailed down. But I wish I could haven't the lunch boxes in honest hearts. Wanted the chinese lunch boxes in Achorage Alaska fallout 3, too. I guess I like lunch boxes. 🤣 I think you should be able to put a lunch box down and store stuff in it. Although it is pretty funny to fill your room with bottle cap mines . . .and mini nukes. Decor is important 🤪🤪🤪

Every DLC plays to a different play-style. The Divide is challenging but forgiving. There’s tough enemies but you can come and go as you please. Making it good for casual gamers. Honest Hearts tests you in areas your character might be lacking (survival, endurance) but gives you plenty of resources to get through it if you’re willing to explore. Still making it fairly easy if you know how to craft; collect, and extract resources. Good for a challenge but not overbearing. Old World Blues caters to more of a scientific build but also offers opportunities to advance through the story in your own kind of way. Which does take trial and error and getting things wrong before you can get them right. But it’s about as challenging as you want to make it. If you explore, it will get pretty rough. If you just play the main story, the difficulty will more or less scale with your character accordingly. But there’s enough cool loot out there to make the challenge of exploration worth it. Which is great for players who like to scavenge. Dead Money, I think experienced players love it (myself) but inexperienced players will hate it. It makes you fall in line with how to play it out and really puts your skills/build to the test. It has its problems but it really is a great DLC if you’re patient and experienced.

I first went into Dead Money with a questionable build on Hardcore mode. It was the greatest survival horror/stealth experience I’ve ever had. After a drug-free life prior to the Madre I was forced into the throes of addiction in order to survive the opening ceremony. Hiding, getting lost, being overjoyed to see a filthy mattress next to a hot plate, saving the characters only to be forced to confront the consequences of my previous actions, leaving behind the gold bars because I already had a fortune in chips, one of the best Fallout experiences I’ve ever had. But I get that not everyone enjoying a vaping The Cloud 24/7 while being harassed by holograms.

I played this yesterday! I had no idea of the mixed reviews. I really enjoyed this quest, being stripped of all my stuff and forced to survive was a breath of fresh air as before I started I was leveled to hell and wearing power armour. I think all of the characters are interesting and have some satisfying ends. I ended up finding a stealth boy somewhere so I got away with a few bars of gold too!

It’s a great DLC, once. I won’t even bother to redownload it it’s such a hassle and a slog. It’s not stressful or difficult. Or scary. Just too long. And not having access to your gear makes it less fun. The other new Vegas dlc however? Infinitely replayable. Big Mountain is my favorite. I find the think tank is really compelling and fascinating. I’m a bigger fan of scifi than i am of heists. Plus it’s a linear story which i think is a disservice to an open world survival game. If you wanna kill Joshua Graham first thing in honest hearts you can. Which feels in spirit with the rest of the game (allowing you to wipe out every faction besides yesman). If you felt like it you could run straight to the legion and kill caesar. You’re telling me that with 100 explosives, 100 science, and 100 lockpicking i wouldn’t IMMEDIATELY be able to take the collar off?

First time playing through DM was hell. Once I learned the ins and outs of it, it became way more bearable, even fun. It's still a drag though, because you're forced to use the DLCs equipment instead of your normal stuff.

I love the concept of this DLC, its story and characters, its feel... and I hate playing it because 95% of the time I'm going to be avoiding and getting into traps, evading ghost people, panickily searching for those damn radios and emitters and trying so many times to sneak past Elijah with all the gold in the end.

one thing that's worth doing atleast once is getting all the collectibles especially all the terminal entries/notes it sheds light on the triangle between Sinclair, Domino, and Keys, you learn about the mismanagement and shoddy infrastructure, connections to Big MT, and the cloud. There's a lot of cool story stuff to be gleamed from it, mind you it can be a pretty rough ride collecting it all, with the cloud and explosive collar and all, so probably only something to do once.

I remember trying to get through this dozens of times in the early days. Last time I went through I had max unarmed/melee It made what was tanky enemies into a cake walk. They drop so many bear trap gauntlets you'll always have a fully functional one of your own and it's pretty much a one hit kill.

The real treasure of the Sierra Madre is the stimpaks. Get all the chips you can - 2k for the snowglobe, and the rest elsewhere, and collect as much pre-war money as you can. Trade all that for chips too. Go play blackjack. Win until you're banned from the Sierra Madre. (+10k chips) Buy unlimited simpaks from the vending machines with the chips. Never struggle with healing ever again. I also personally have more .357 ammo than I know what to do with by the end, so you'll possibly have no shortage of ammo, either. Walk out with the gold too, and then the hardest part of the game is slow-walking to gun runners to liquidate all that gold.

You can take the gold by sneaking out as he enters before he puts the blue forcefields back up. It took me a few tries, but I managed it in the end.

My beef with Dead Money is that I can't see anything ahead of me. My screen didn't help it much, but the poop brown filter it has is so annoying. I do like the melancholic theme, its lore, playing stealth, but I hate being unable to explore freely and interact with NPCs. I didn't enjoy it much and tried to finish it as quick as possible u.u
