Pillars of the Earth is a great gateway for fantasy readers to explore historical fiction (it was for me!). So glad that you loved this book - it's a remarkable read and a top 10 of all time for me. I hope many of your viewers pick this up based on your recommendation!

World without End (I think this is my favorite over Pillars is because while the protagonists undergo huge trials and struggles I wasn’t stressed out all the time for them as I was in the first book and that made it more enjoyable for me personally) 2. Pillars of the Earth (A very close second) 3. The Evening and the Morning (I really enjoyed seeing the humble beginnings of the town and the start of everything) 4. A Column of Fire (A far cry from the first three but I still finished it and enjoyed some parts) 5. The Armor of Light (this one was actually a DNF and I lost interest after a couple of hundred pages) 5.

Thank you so much, Chris! WOW. Your top 2 books of all time are the firs two books in Kingsbridge!? That's amazing. I am pumped to read WWE. But yeah, most likely not soon! Will take a few months break first!

currently on before they are hanged and i can’t decide between this, the wall of storms or empire of the vampire after !!! but i’m so glad you finally found another five star after all of these decades 😂

A Dangerous Fortune is another great page turner by Ken Follett, and one that is hard to put down.

Pillars is on my top 10 all time. I will say that World Without End is pretty much just as good. So whenever you get to it, I truly think you'll find it another 5☆ read

the edge of the Century trilogy is outstanding too I am near the end of the second book. Follett is a great writer though I suspect if he was writing smaller books he may have more readers. I need to re-read pillars of the earth then navigate to the other kinsbridge books but that's probably not for this year.

Oh I have to check The Century Trilogy, too, after I'm done with Kingsbridge! :D

The miniseries was absolutely phenomenal. Although I have not read the book. Have you seen the miniseries or the show? Is it still worth reading the book if you’ve seen the show? Also is this considered fantasy or is it just historical fiction?
@PetrikLeoАй бұрын
It's definitely historical fiction! Unfortunately, I haven't watched the miniseries yet. The book is amazing, though.

This is one of those books everyone hypes up so much that I question my own reading experience. For me, it was just a lot of trite melodrama which felt like it was trying to manipulate me into caring about characters that were relatively generic. Yes, flawed characters, but they didn't have a lot of depth, and I just felt annoyed at the heavy-handedness of it all.

That's unfortunate! Don't worry about it, though. We all have one of those books! :D
