You're in for one hell of a great story.

It's closer to 10% of the actual series though. East Blue anime covers the chapters 1 - 100 and the series will end with probably around 1300 - 1400 chapters. (The anime pacing goes to total horse shit by the time it reaches the half way point of the series.)

To understand Syrup Village arc's resolution, you need to understand the paralels between Ussop and Kuro. Just like Kaya said, Ussop's lies are not to hurt people nor decieve them, but they're all about cheering people up and enjoying life. He sees the people in his billage living such mundane lifes so he spices things up by rallying them every morning with his lies (we saw it when people misses his shouting in the end of the arc), and when Kaya was sick he uses his lies to make up stories which brighten her days in the middle of grieving her parents and stuck in her house without friends. Meanwhile every nice things that Kuro said that seems to be honest were just manipulation tactics to decieve everyone in the village and to hurt Ussop and Kaya. So in the end of the arc, he didn't want to tell the people the truth because what's the point? To make the people of the village feel guilty for not believing in him when there was actually pirates? No, he wouldn't want that. He'd rather have the live in ignorance knowing they did nothing wrong when Ussop leaves. It wasn't supposed to be a "told you so moment", it's supposed to be a "im fine now that everything's fine" moment. So when Kaya said Ussops lies are for people to enjoy life, she didn't want to tell the truth because it would stop him from leaving the village and living his dreams which she knows a life he would enjoy. She would rather he be happy than be honest, especially when he promissed he'd be back in the future with all the tales of his adventure that he's been dreaming about since he was a small child. As for Yassops situation, it's not like he just dipped and left his family. We saw Ussop and his mother being proud of him having a dream and followed it, he didn't just suddenly dissapeared. They probably already talked over it and understood what it meant. Being out in the One Piece's seas probably meant it would be a veeeery long time until he could come back. And his mother being sick was probably spontanious when it has probably been months or years since he left, and maybe a small chance that he came back can make her better, and sadly that didn't happen. Just another unfortunate things in life that could happen to anyone.
@MixingMediaShow2 күн бұрын
I love the parallel you drew between usopp, kuro and kaya! The part I struggle with is that I feel like it's the responsible thing to do to tell the villagers. Not as an "I told you so" but as a warning in case pirates show up again.
@afanzatara5139Күн бұрын
@@MixingMediaShow oh, about that part... We saw that Syrup village just like Luffy's hometown was a pretty basic village, everything was ordinary except for Ussop and Kaya's mansion. The chances of pirates coming to plunder were really small, for maybe a decade since a pirate peacefully visited and recruited Yassop, the only pirate that actually came was a "mastermind" that was trying to stop being a pirate with a long con. Like, we talking 3 years plan. Even in Luffy's hometown (windmill village), the threat wasn't pirates, it was mountain bandits, and Syrup village doesn't even have that. Pirates only come to plunder to big cities like Logue town and Orange town, or to places and people who have treasure and riches (ex: Kaya and her mansion). So not only the chances for pirates coming are really small, and if they ARE coming there, the target is most likely Kaya. So when it happens the Ussop pirates, Merry and Kaya are already prepared and cautious enough for it to happen and inform the village in a better way. But for now, Ussop just wanted to leave for his journey in peace without making any villager be scared for something that was already solved, nor be regretful of how they treated him right before he left.

About the daddy filler in Loguetown along with the old guy with the bar and the cooking competition ( this one I might be wrong about) we’re supposed to be in the manga, but Oda wanted to reach the grand line by chapter 100, so he cut them out to make time. i think the reason Usopp said that to his goon squad is because nobody in the village would believe them anyways and the kids might be labelled the same as him, a liar, so in the future when there are real pirates coming, the villagers will believe the kids. in Sanji's case, they have to do it that way because Sanji feels incredibly to Zeff that it hinders him to go to the sea.

Why didn't Usopp redeem himself? He did give an explanation to Kaya and the kids, right? He doesn't want the villagers to feel the fear and anxiety for the rest of their lives from knowing that pirates really were going to slaughter their little village. A threat that will almost certainly never happen again. Clearing his own name was way less important to him than preserving the peace of mind of the villagers. He really is a chronic liar, anyway, so what would proving that he didn't lie this one time really change?
@MixingMediaShow2 күн бұрын

East Blue is what I consider to be the prologue of the series. Or in gaming terms, it is the tutorial that quickly introduces a lot of basic concepts of the world before throwing you into the depths of all its complexity. I both hate and love it because it rushes through so many things and only really sinks the hook into most people at Arlong Park.. and yet even that only scratches the surface of what One Piece will be. Your comparison with Star Wars and noting how the world keeps changing even if characters are offscreen is very good, by the way! While I'm not SW fan myself, One Piece is has a strong reputation in part due to the fact life doesn't seem to stop for characters that are off-screen. This becomes particularly enjoyable once the story starts reaching the point where you get insights into the wider world due to the crews own experiences and renown/influence starting to affect things you don't understand in the slightest... until several hundreds of chapters later, you can start putting the pieces together. East Blue is literally the Emond's Field (Wheel of Time) or Shire (Lord of the Ring) of One Piece. It is a safe haven where things are simple and nobody can't be bothered to fuss over the locals because they are nobodies in the grand scheme of things. And seeing the way the world changes as you start to accept that you are a frog stepping outside of a well to see Oda's mind in all its splendor is an outright joy. I hope you enjoy your journey! (P.S.: Always have tissues ready. You never know when you'll need them.)
@MixingMediaShowКүн бұрын
Love the comparison to the Shire! Everyone keeps talking about how so many things are in motion and it takes a long time to put the pieces together. I have no idea what that means (which is good, I'm glad I haven't been spoiled) but now I'm going to be on high alert as I watch

Thanks for noticing the parallel between OP and real world, most arcs in OP are based in real world, some people even theorized where would oda get the inspiration for raftel(the last island where the one piece is), so that they can use it as a clue to pinpoint the corresponding location in OP world. This is one of the thrill, even the reader/viewers is hunting for the last island, so getting caught up in the series before it is revealed is a good choice, or else spoilers will be in all directions.

It cuts over 9000 minutes of non cannon material that are even in cannon episodes. Just food for thought I understand wanting to get everything you possibly can but one pace would speed up the process a lot so you could get to the later stuff that people love even more than the early stuff you’ve been enjoying.

one piece has a charm you get attached to, it kinda grows on you as you watch the series. my random head canon, i think theres more to it then that. i think yassope took on that mentality so he could leave his family behind. being on one of the most known pirate crews in the world theres probably countless people that would want to hurt his family. maybe thats how his wife got sick in the first place.

i highly recommend you read the sbs's if you haven't already they are little q and a sections oda has in every volume of the manga starting with volume four. Not only do you get move lore for the story but you also get to see more of odas personality and how he interacts with his fans. all of them are translated on the one piece wiki edit: also you should check out the cover stories, their little stories that oda tells on the chapter covers telling you what happened to certain characters/ how the world reacts to major events that happen in the story, the anime tends to not adapt them most of the time.

When you get to fishman island, watch the remastered version of the arc, assuming it's done by the time you get there
@MixingMediaShow2 күн бұрын
Oh i didn't know there were remastered versions. Figured they were saving that for the remake coming up
@TheRubyGamesOG2 күн бұрын
@ So one piece is on break for the current arc and Toei (the current anime studio) is remastering and reediting the arc from 59 eps to 21. Toei pads their episodes so this remastered version from Toei. Is meant to be better paced and it is so far. You're thinking of the complete remake being done by wit studio which something different. Think Fullmetal alchemist brotherhood vs Fullmetal alchemist 2003. It's something similar to that. Except the current one piece anime sticks pretty close to the manga post timeskip
@TEG132 күн бұрын
@@MixingMediaShowThe main reason it's being remastered right now is because its current animation studio Toei animation (also known for Dragonball) is rightfully afraid of their version being made redundant by the studio WIT remake, so they've decided to gradually rework it's most butchered arcs by streamlining the pacing and upgrading the artstyle to the state of the current arcs. All while putting the production of the most recent episodes on hold to reduce the ever-present issue of catching up tho the manga, which in the past forced them to pad out the pacing, killing two birds with one stone.

Just a little correction, most of the Logue Town filler is actually canon. Oda simply decided to cut it from the manga to have the entrance into the grandline happen in chapter 100. He simply handed the scrapped content to the anime staff, making it one of the very few cases where Oda wrote the story for filler episodes.
@MixingMediaShowКүн бұрын
I also learned it was adapted from a tie-in novel. Love that Oda has so much material he's fueling his own filler LOL

The stuff with Daddy the Father is filler, but only by technicality. Oda was the one who wrote it and the only reason it wasn't included in the manga was because he wanted to do something monumentous for the quickly approaching 50th (or was it hundreth?) chapter of the manga. Which was entering the Grand Line. So while it is filler, it's pretty much widely accepted as canon despite that.

i think all the lying and indirect communication has probably something to do with japanese culture in general? i feel like its not so common (at least with the older, non-online generation probably) for japanese people to just. say your feelings straight up. like, ive never lived there, but from all the manga and anime and live-action shows etc etc ive seen, it is a VERY big deal when someone just... straight up says what theyre feeling. not just romantically (it explains why so many romance manga make SUCH a big deal out of someone telling someone else they like them 😭😭), but just generally, socially. like, ive seen it so many times when some character will compliment someone elses partner or friend or children or whatever, it seemingly is always the first response to go "no actually they're pretty useless". saying that here in germany would be SO mean lmao!!!!! imagine someone compliments your kid on how smart they are really clever and you go "oh no theyre not smart theyre just lucky" and ive seen that SO MANY TIMES!!! now, to be fair thats all just fictional stories. but i dont think that comes from nowhere. so, usopps and sanjis whole thing of taking that "tough love" or that "mean-ness" from people that actually like them, and let them stay in the dark about it, feels like a very japanese thing thats supposed to be understood as bittersweet and heartwarming? at least thats what ive gathered.

@12:00 the thing is that they don't really respect Yasopp as a father/husband so much as a person who followed his dreams even if their family was the price (kinda like Gon and his father in HxH. He respects the man but he doesn't consider him to be his parent since he didn't raise him). So Usopp's father is more like that cool uncle you don't see much but who inspires you to be like him. Also Japan isn't really known for its feelings communication culture XD. And it impacts the story tho there are very good reasons for it usually. Especially that gruff sailors are very gruff. They're usually the worst at it. And the Baratie is made of former pirates. So feelings communication definitely wasn't a thing and Sanji wouldn't have listened anyway. That's the point of these scene (Sanji's a...special case in general. He's got his own side development) But Yeah, Luffy's our AroAce Autistic/ADHD Pirate King

@MixingMediaShow yup, it's correct. You've actually even included a clip of a filler episode that had canon scenes in it! It's 23:05 - 23:31 and this scene is canon but the rest of the episode was mostly filler. Then, you have "anime canon", where the anime fills in certain storylines that are missing from the manga due to constraints. In that case Oda gave the anime crew some notes to add in the anime (e.g. some scenes in Loguetown arc) OR the anime production included & padded out cover stories from the Manga (e.g. Buggy's return between Orange Orangetown and Loguetown)
