It's crazy how far you can get in caustic, I use it to bang out ideas when I don't have a laptop on me (midi export exists on android, not sure about iOS). The limits are what make it great... Also, there's automation, which really helps! The track automation is much better than the loop automation, but still it's there... And it supports setting scales in the settings menu, which can be a lot nicer than dealing with the small chromatic onscreen keyboard. There is also some wavetable-like functionality in subsynth if you use custom waveforms (2 curves only sadly) but it can get pretty dirty, especially if you bounce to pcmsynth samples and layer / mix tracks together in modular. Not a frequent user or anything :) Coming from primarily using ableton.

Dude I **completely** understand how you feel. It is super satisfying to get a professional sound with the limitations of a phone. After using it for a long time, you develop work arounds and cheats that get you a sound that didn’t think was possible, stuff that seems like it was done with desktop software. Being able to compare your creations with others’ creations within the same app is really satisfying. FL Mobile has been my main DAW since the beginning. I used it four years ago to make my first beats. Since then, I’ve heard myself progress in music making mostly within this app. It feels really good to hear the progression you’ve made, especially when bounded to the fact it’s all form a phone. So yeah, I totally get it. I imagine Caustic’s ability, just like FLM’s, is limitless. It’s just a matter of how much time you spend with it. Keep going, man. I have no doubt that you will make radio-ready tracks with Caustic if you keep at it. Oh, and do you share your stuff online? I’d love to take a listen. Edit: just checked out your channel. Real dope 🔥

You can swipe left and right on the preset name to change presets easily! Most of them are pretty bad but some of them can be tweaked to make a really good sound. The app definitely has a pretty big learning curve but the developer has some great tutorials on youtube that you can check out if you haven't already. As other people have mentioned, you can change the theme in the settings menu if you don't like the interface style.

@jlewwis19952 жыл бұрын
The 8 bit synth is a wavetable synthesizer that uses the math equation you put in to generate the waveform, t is a basic saw wave that gets updated at an 8khz sample rate (it's meant to represent time and it's of course an 8 bit value so it wraps around which crested the saw wave). So you kind of have to be really good at visualizing math equations in your head to be able to use it to its full potential :/ or you could do what most people probably do and just hit the randomizer button until you get something good lol
@autochromes5 жыл бұрын
you can change note length by dragging the size button to the right also you can turn quantize off and use different drivers it even has an easter egg
@autochromes5 жыл бұрын
the way you changed note length is just zoom basically. you didn't go over a lot this app has to offer honestly. did i say you can route a synth into the modular and again and again use a lot of effects in the effects section as well that way. you can merge and stamp down multiple synths to the pcm synth very easily also the waveform editor is great. only thing caustic is missing is audio clips in the arrangement window.

Can you eventually check out an app called "Bandpass" I haven't used it a ton but it seems free. I know there are in-app purchases but it's probably loops or samples. Maybe both. Also, please check out "Stagelight". It's an app and a computer software. It's free but a stripped down version. It's $20 to unlock everything. It basically gives more control and effects with paying. You could pay $50 but the only thing I see that that one adds is VST support. I got that one for $30 because it was on sale near Halloween. I didn't even know what VST plugins were when I got it. I thought it was only for Stagelight until I did research and realized any VST plugin is compatible with any music software that supports VST plugins.

Caustic is better used on android rather than ios tbh. The PCMsynth alone is most useful. It supports soundfont files, as well as letting you import your own samples to be used as instruments and assigning individual samples to certain keys to make up drum kits or more precise presets/sounds. It also has a built in wav editor...and you can layer sounds/synths and export them to presets to be used in PCMsynth. You can even record your own audio into it and manipulate the audio to use as a instrument. If you know what you're doing....Caustic can be a powerful music app. Maybe revisit this app using a android device or PC? EDIT: There is usually a latency setting in the settings...you can change it for better response and it shouldn't have any input lag. This will also stop it from stuttering etc.

Caustic is still very good for an old app tbh, the only downside of the app are its limitations, like only 2 effects per synth (except reverb and delay) and the usage of synths (you can use maximum 14 synths in a song), but even so its still a good app, it might be hard until you learn how to use it but its worth the time

Hi Levi, great video. I own Caustic 3 on my old Asus Android smartphone. It’s a great music making app although the workflow is bad and not every preset is a good sounding one. I don’t own Caustic on my new iPhone yet, but I will buy it soon for my iOS device. We all know that Android is a worse platform for music making apps. Especially the latency is terrible on an Android device. Nevertheless, Caustic 3 is an awesome application to play around with and you can produce some decent sounding tracks with it (also on Android, piano roll editor is recommended to use due to latency) Thanks for sharing your opinions.
