DBgeek it was about time you continued this awesome game,i understand what u say about the open world aspect but its done on purpose, you don't have to do any side missions as you clearly have not but its very nice to have them and to have something extra to do like find Parts to level up Jack and collectibles and some legendary version of weapons that are throught the different Acts. They have put this Element to bring a Change of Pace and that is Very nice to go from all out Battle to the beautifull scenery and the travelling and story telling and quietness to show contrast and give us some variety and something different to change the Pace of all that Battle. Also i would put difficulty on Experienced as it was throught most of the game since you have played all 4 Gears games and i think you are experienced enough by now you just need to take some cover more and use your/Jack Abilities more.

I share you opinon on Gears 5 at the end...althougg I do like the diolague inbetween the skiff ride where they talk about thier lives or adding in extra story things to make it less of just scilence...i think it was a good try...what they could have done- and mayne you agree with me- but maybe random ambush encounters where a pouncer jumps out at you from the sand/snow/bushes/trees and then a few other smaller swarm troops follow after could happen where it interupts and imedditaly puts you in a battle

Games try to much to be everything now, I agree with what you said, the Gears formula worked for everygame that came before it, if it ain't broke don't fix it. The open world does just feel like filler and chore, to the point where I dreaded having to get on the skid again, and the side missions distracted from the main story and the sense of urgency. It's not a deal breaker, just could do without it.

I agree 100% with your assessment at the end of the video. The open world/sandbox aspect of this game felt like a way to pad out the gameplay. While the dialog and banter between characters during those times DID help with building their relationships and comradery, it never felt wholly necessary. The beauty of the original Gears of War and Halo trilogies were always the urgency and fleshed out character building within the games. Newer games (especially Gears and Halo) suffer from the story telling that REQUIRES other media to fully understand. You have to read the novels to gain insight into what's going on during and between the games. I feel like the games are dampened by that. The industry relies too heavily on open world aspects. That's what killed Halo Infinite for me. Sometimes, all these games need are to be emotionally impacting while keeping you in the fight. Personally, I thrive on story. The roller coaster of struggle, loss, and triumph. Tears, joy, and engagement. Open worlds slow the pacing to a point where by the time I DO re-engage in the story, I feel like I've lost the urgency that was intended. But as Deebeegeek said, I feel like I have to do the side things. Like they'll somehow going to prepare me for something down the road that I wouldn't otherwise be able to hurdle on my own. But that has never been the case. It hurts to know, and it is a continual pain to experience. I hope that Gears and Halo can somehow rediscover their roots while still moving forward in fresh and engaging ways.

I agree with everything you said at the end. The "open world" feels extremely tagged on. I'm sick of the gaming industry and their obsession with turning everything bigger than neccessary. The highlights of the game lie where the series has it's strong suit but there us so much padding in between all of it. The best part of the game was when you are playing as JD and it's so shortlived.

I feel like the "open world" part could work if they developed it a lot more, maybe if there was more to do and more customisation. If it had a lot more side missions and customisation like Tactics I think it could be really good. Or leave the main games linear and just make an open world spinoff gears game on it's own, I think that would be cool.
