Honestly, the best part about the story of DS3 is how it portrayed the Tau Volanthians. We come across them, thinking they were the OG creators of the markers... only to find out they were just another victim of their influence. What we thought was gonna be them ruining the cosmic horror aspect of Dead Space actually turned out to be them adding more to it, cuz nothing screams "Cosmic Horror" like introducing a dead race of far more advanced aliens that could not escape the galactic horrors that currently plague humanity. It helps to enhance that sense of hopelessness and dread.
@fumothfan911 ай бұрын
The Tau aliens and the military base personnel both sacrificed themselves too to prevent the new moon from forming. Aliens froze the planet Humans off'd everyone and destroyed any research / most research and the key activator to prevent the device from unfreezing the planet. I remember hating the story of this game the first time I played through it solo. It was so dumb and jarring how Carver only existed in cutscenes and would always find a flimsy excuse to abandon Isaac as soon as it shifted to gameplay. It made it really hard to take it seriously when they tried to act like friends. I actually enjoyed my second playthrough in co-op much more. That's clearly how the game was meant to be played. I wish they would have just changed the story completely for the single-player campaign and written Carver out of it or something. He so obviously exists only to justify a second player being able to join at any moment that it really hurts immersion.

The 'Am I a good man part' is a great reason to keep Carver and build upon him. But hearing that dev say he would have preferred that Ellie was the co-op partner has given me a radical idea for a DS3 remake: make all three of them playable. Split the games chapters among the three of them. Give Ellie her own badass suits, give each character a signature weapon (Isaac's plasma cutter, Carver's rifle, Ellie's... screwdriver). Make co-op optional whilst not forcing single player to miss those areas, maybe by making the Isaac/Carver/Ellie NPC companions for the duration of the side mission.

@@fumothfan9 Agreed, what happen to Ellie in 3 legitimately is one of the biggest issues I have with the game barring Norton being a useless asshole. The funniest thing about Dead Space 3, for me, is how the game opens with you escaping a Necromorph outbreak on the Moon's colony and almost nobody even seems to acknowledge it happened. It's the closest Necromorph outbreak from Earth since Altman found the Marker in the Yucatán Peninsula, there's an active Marker spreading its influence on the people in the colony & there're violent Unitologist fanatics actively spreading the signal, but everybody is more concerned with getting away from Elton John's legion of Scientologists to find Ellie's impressive ballistics in a galaxy far far away. The games prior to 3 instilled a great urgency in not letting the wrong people bring the marker back to Earth, but in the final game where we're flung into and outbreak on the closest heavenly body to Earth? That's not actually a damn big deal, actually.

This version of DS3 is actually fucking AWESOME. Yes, it does remove a lot of the cosmic futility. BUT...something I've grown to appreciate is horror meant to empower. Issac's seen some shit. He stared intot he abyss...and the abyss blinked first. He's done running, he's done hiding. He's a survivor, and more than anything, that's what the Marker fears. Someone who was subjected to every horrific thing the Marker could conjure, and yet survived.
@YORCHspartan11729 күн бұрын
If you think about it, taking into account the planned script they had for DS4, the fact that Isaac STILL survived the end of Dead Space 3's DLC should have put the fear of god into the breathen moons, like this one guy survived every manipulation trick that you could foster to make him die, became resistant to said tricks, destroyed two markers almost on his own (one which he constructed), killed one of their own (even if it was incomplete/young) and even when you had him right where you wanted (when they invaded earth) the bastard still managed to worm his way out of it.

1:48 Deadspace 3 is weird in that way. It's kinda like a plate from a buffet full of a lot of stuff that's individually great, but together it's not cohesive. The setpieces can be fun, the mood where you're out in space on these ruined ships trying to survive and floating in the void near this undiscovered planet is excellent, as is the The Thing-inspired feeling of being in a frozen wasteland surrounded by horrors. The weapon crafting is fun, and I liked building a revolver that could rip Necromorphs apart in one shot, or making ridiculous custom guns. ...The problem is that none of it makes anything cohesive. The crafting is fun, but why am I gonna make a specialized Line Gun-like tool with the timed mines when I can build a Line Gun with a _better_ launcher, or an assault rifle with a grenade launcher? Especially when that last thing lets me just smoke Necromorphs easily, taking out so much of the horror?

I'd like Dead Space 3 remake... Sort of. Not exactly. I want the original vision. Earth dies. Then Dead Space 4... A group of survivors, chased by this threat, looking for a new home world, hidden from this threat, scavenging equipment and facilities, just one step ahead of total defeat, against impossible odds, with rapidly dwindling human survivors (and you must ensure certain amount survive, in the end, to win.. and you can't know if it's enough or not, until you actually find a new home world.. because if you lost too many, humanity is too depleted to repopulate, and you have to replay again). This can go on to Dead Space 5, 6, so on, depending on how good the writing is. Would be excellent 👌
@theflame59196 ай бұрын
Maybe even, by Dead Space 6, you make contact with surviving two ancient galactic superpowers, what unleashed this bio weapon against one another, millions of years ago, in some long forgotten galactic war, and lost control of it, sterilizing the galaxy. They are now only shards of ancient glory, and maybe even still at war with one another, and this super weapon gone wild .. this eventually can go on into Dark Space 8, then human survivors attempt to escape the Milky Way all together, on basis of alien technology, and aliens don't exactly want to share the tech, because it keeps them secure from the threat somehow.. so humans getting it, means they get over run too. This can go all sorts of ways into Dark Space 9, so on.
@theflame59196 ай бұрын
Finally, as ultimate horror ending, humanity does escape, to a new galaxy.. only to bring this affliction to a new galaxy with them... That can then become basis for new set of Dead Space games, there eventually humans must return to home galaxy, to destroy the source of the threat what is now sterilizing the other galaxy.. and it can get uber dark, there in the end, humans fail, and both galaxies become dead space, with humans regressing to pre industrial era, on hidden world, traped for fear of exposure in that state.

@dkkanofkash87984 ай бұрын
It’s obvious that this game impacted you on a deeper, more personal level, and it warms my heart that’s what happened with you. My approach to it was much simpler. I bought and played all three games in 2020 during the lockdowns, I loved Dead Space 1, I loved Dead Space 2, and I loved Dead Space 3. This may sound insane to say, but none of the games were that strong on the story side of things, I enjoyed them more for the well-handled lore, character interactions, atmosphere, gameplay, gunplay, and sci-fi elements. I thought Dead Space 3 handled the characters no worse than Dead Space 1 or 2 did, and though Isaac’s and Norton’s bickering over Ellie was a bit annoying given the context of the story, it was easy for me to excuse their irrational behavior as the Marker’s influence. That being said, I agree with the changes you proposed, as they do help the story of the game feel more authentic (at least on paper). Ellie dying would have been tragic but also very realistic, and not something we see that often in movies and games anymore. I honestly think there’s a lot more to Dead Space and Isaac’s story after Dead Space 3, even if the Brethren Moons consumed Earth, but only time will tell if we get any possible sequels or continuations of the story once EA is finished remastering the original games (which I hope they do).

One of imo the biggest middle fingers from DS3 was how at the start on the moon of saturn or jupiter was it? A necromorph outbreak happens. And we just easily get out of there on a train into a spaceship and leave the planet / moon to die. Then we learn everytime it happens in a large populated area the ascension was it? Where the necromorphs combine! The event starts and it forms another brother moon Wouldn't that start to form another brother moon? We just left a literal moon colony by itself 😂 And it was a city. You could tell by the large apartment buildings and trash everywhere it was a hussle and bussling large city. Plus the moon colony is waaayyyy closer to earth than wherever far away the ice planet was at
@WeaverOfStars11 ай бұрын
Oh its way worse than that. The Moon Colony that you see at the start of the game is Earth's moon actually. The New Horizons Lunar Colony makes the Sprawl look tiny which suggests that their was probably billions of people that were condemned to being killed by necromorphs at the start of the game due to Danik detonating the Marker. That in itself kinda made just leaving it to die being stupid. That many people dying to a Marker could of done a Convergence event all on its own.

Despite 3 sucking, I've actually played Dead Space 3 way more than 1 or 2. The list of things that are off-beat in 3 is very long, but I would focus on changing two things. First, when you use Stasis for the first time to get across the highway, causing a massive traffic accident and Isaac nonchalantly goes "oops" is in my opinion the single most disgusting breach of tone in the series. Yeah the back-and-forth between Norton and Isaac is pathetic, but it all rests on EA-Isaac being introduced to us as a psychopathic edgelord. It's unforgivable. The second thing I'd change would be to have the final area filled with water, to substitute for zero gravity. It's a water planet with water-based aliens, and you could make a ton of compelling rooms and puzzles for thawing off sections and ensuring oxygen supply as you unlock new rooms and so on. Much later, Subnautica came along to remind everyone that underwater horror is a very powerful (and proven) concept too.

I like it! Although I think there’s a throwaway line about how those cars on the highway are all autonomous, so no one would have been injured in the pileup. (Still pretty cocky of Isaac though.)

This re-scripting of DS3 is a great idea! Even with keeping the whole "earth dies" thing. I have for years been saying that a theoretical DS4 should be Issac doing his engineer thing. Building a solution. Earth might be gone, but so are most Unitarians. The Tau Volanthians built a machine that can pause unification; maybe it is Humanity's turn to build something that can fight back on a planet sized scale too. The ending could be some distant future alien species that are experiencing Necromorphs and they find Issac's records - plans for ships that can fight back. Planet cracking ships modified to rip parts off the Brother-Moons and destroy them piece by piece.

One of the things I didn't like is that there was not enough EarthGov. Sure terrorists this and terrorists that, but c'mon - EarthGov won against Sovereing Colonies Armed Forces, it studied markers and made copies here and there, there was an after credits scene for DS2 (I'm still salty that it didn't lead anywhere) where it was revealed that Titan station was just another site and maybe even planned accident to study the full marker activation process. EarthGov HAD to have a lot of resources and not just a one ship and one squad of people left. If it had fallen so low the whole society would've been destroyed and we saw that things were functioning normally at the start, with a lot of transport vehicles moving everywhere, with lights in windows, meaning that people were living there alright. PLUS EarthGov knew about necromorphs, since there was an outbreak in Altman times that they've been covering up ever since, so they 100% had to have a counter plan. Other than that - yeah, Ellie was supposed to die there. I was really thinking that it was a markers illusion, just as you are suggesting here. I really don't like how they butchered her character to make her a damsel in distress that can't do almost nothing without help - she was not like that in DS2 at all. I also just now realised that Isaac didn't have a character growth at all. Huh. Guess I didn't notice, since I played it with a friend from the start and we were much more interested in Carver hallucinations and differences of what were experiencing. A shame, really - this mechanic and the dlc are clearly showing that Visceral could make another masterpiece, but were not allowed to.

There would be a few things I would change about the story and it would mostly revolve around Carver's. Basically all parts where you can only go in coop would be available in single player as well however any hallucination Carver has in Isaac's pov you can't see them therefore in single player you won't see what Carver sees, then in coop who plays as Carver can see it. I know it would involve having a partner with you at all times with ai but this is what it takes

New sub here! Loved the plot changes you made and think they were solid. Also; I’m a vet and developed stress induced anxiety. Not quite the same as a trauma induced anxiety but what you said rang true to me. Being the best man I can be, whether doing what I should or simply going out in public with my family has been hard. I can feel numbness, symptoms similar to heart attacks and mood swings that are hard to tame. I’ve learned to accept my symptoms for what they are and appreciate what I have and what I can do over time, and the best ways to approach dealing with the consequences for when it gets bad. One thing I can’t ever seem to get over is feeling guilty for when it gets bad. Thankfully, my daughter and wife both understand and help me with what I need to do. Best of luck with you and your battle my friend, if you’re ever in a dark place my inbox is always open.

I felt Dead Space 3 was not the best installment but it wasn't bad either. I enjoyed the chilling plot twist in that we learn the natives of Tau Volantis were just another civilization that fell victim to the Necromorphs. What's even more insane is that a writer revealed that in Dead Space 4 we would have learned there was a bigger fish, something the Brethren Moons were terrified of.

On the topic of a DS2 remake i believe that the story and gameplay are perfect as they are from what i remember so i think updating the graphics and a few tweaks plus all dlc included would be perfectly fine. However i do have an idea where you can play as different characters in their own story missions on the sprawl kinda like a "(insert here) in one game" where for example you experience not only Issacs time on the sprawl but also Ellie's experience during the sprawl outbreak and Weller from the DS2 Severed dlc and maybe Vandal from the DS mobile game. I do realize this would be a massive undertaking but if it happened it would be amazing.

I want a radical shift for DS3. Ellie and Isaac assemble a group of people touched by the markers. They all still struggle with that history, and still have visions because of it. This leads to various tensions in the group, and them having to work through the marker's influence. They still have a mole, who is someone that hasn't been touched by the marker and just lies about it. Co-op is no longer a thing. Instead, we switch perspective between multiple characters throughout the story. Sometimes you play as a character who can die if you fail a mission if you don't meet certain requirements. Your crew gets thinned out no matter what you do, so it can feel hopeless as you lose characters that were thought to be integral to the survival of the mission. Ellie and Isaac just shave by at the end, permanently altering something that the aliens before had created and they KILL OFF the brother moon species at large. They both breathe a sigh of relief, now free from marker control. It's a dumb and simple story, yes, but I'll be damned if it isn't what most people would find playable and fun. In DS2 Isaac destroys the marker. He frees himself from its influence. Then when all hope is lost, Ellie comes in and saves him, even alluding they'll be romantic partners. No one complained about it. It was spectacular and fun, and we felt like winners. Save the day, get the girl. DS3 could be a repeat of that story, even a continuation and growth of their romance, and I doubt many would complain. People want happy endings, and destroying the entire necromorph lineage would be a satisfying end to the all the pain and suffering our characters have been through.

Man, this was quite the video. I remembered that I hated Norton's guts for basically butting into Isaac and Ellie's moments 😆 I also wish there were more of those Co Op rooms because the differing experiences was pretty funny with you sounding like you were actually going crazy to your buddy. I do wish that Carver's development wasn't solely tied to these and were more for fun and a little more lore to add on to a more complete backstory for him. As much as it pains me to think of Ellie dying, the way you set up the confrontation with Danik made for quite the interesting twist since Isaac couldn't really have those types of hallucinations anymore which were one of my favorite parts about DS2. I would love to see them remake the other 2 although I would be more interested in 3 since I don't believe much more can be done to 2 as it already felt like a great game.

I just found your channel through "I Fixed The Callisto Protocol's Story" and followed that up with this one. Two things: A) I find your version of Dead Space 3 much more appealing than what we got. Meaning well when you screwed up doesn't mean a thing. You still screwed up and hurt people. B) I just wanted to say that I'm happy you still have someone in your life. I ruined a lot of personal relationships with friends and family after I left police work. I was cold and a jerk a lot of the time when I didn't realize it. Even when I really meant well and was trying to give sound advice, I came off as a dick because I didn't consider the feelings of others, only the outcomes of the courses of action they were about to take. I didn't do well. Doing better is the only way to repair what you have damaged. I wish more media understood that when attempting to make a story relating to post traumatic stress. I'm doing better now. I hope you are to.

I kinda wish Gabe Weller was alive and be the co-op partner for Isaac Clarke, more than Carver. I know he pretty much passed in his DLC back in DS2, but I felt the connection of him and Isaac being pretty much ones who survived, ever since the whole incident with the Ishimura, would’ve made for some interesting chemistry between them.

Eh as a long time dead space fan, i thought the fact some of the parts were co-op only were easily skippable in the overall aspect of the story. I also loved the direction they went with in how they made it very action heavy. It just makes sense how much Isaac would have to deal with given the fact theyre trying to go stop the marker home world (or what they thought was the marker home world) but i could definitely see it having taken some different direction to more horror aspects. Honestly i think it was such an awesome game and i wouldnt change it except write out more side quests to the game that dont lock only specific to co op. Itd be cool. I think the team that remade the first game could definitely give the 2nd and 3rd games more parts to those to give more back story to it honestly.

I haven’t watched your whole video yet. I look forward to hearing your rewrite. I’ve always fought for Dead Space 3 because for all the issues it had I could see so much potential. The weapon building system might be my favourite thing about the game, people write it off as trash because of the micro transactions but through stubbornness I got so much out of it without spending a penny. Micros are trash and I hate EA for including them but to Visceral’s credit I thought the system was more than tolerable with no financial investment. The scav bot bug where they disappear and can never be replaced is criminal and that is one thing about the weapon system and economy that drove me nuts. Beyond the weapon system I really enjoyed the setting. Exploring the ships in space before ending up on the planet is something I enjoyed. The small side missions were a fun thing to knock out even if they are short, I think it’s criminal some were locked behind coop. I was gonna elaborate on more things like suits and enemy designs but I’ll simplify it down to I really enjoyed the art direction of the game. I cannot defend the plot of this game or the dialogue and that’s why I’m very excited to hear your rewrite. They clearly gutted their initial premise and bandaged the wound with Carver and you can really feel that throughout the game. Edit 1: I hate to admit it but I really enjoyed playing Resi 5 with buddies in later years at high school, so Dead Space 3 really had a good chance at being something I enjoyed. Sadly though by the time DS3 became a reality my tribe had spread out so I never got to play it in coop. Edit 2: Bro I love how you’re using random co-character names pulled from other games whenever you refer to Carver. Straight gold. Sheva and arbiter it’s like your targeting me directly :L Edit 3: That chain rivet gun with the force gun combo though. I recognise that bad boy at first glance. Edit 4: Amazing rewrite. The start made so much sense I had to remind myself it was a fabrication. The interesting new backstories for the crew adds a new dynamic that sounds fun. My ear to ear grin when you showed the call from marker-Ellie. Having Carver be an actual character outside of co-op. I hope they do remake 3 and I hope it’s rewritten because the potential is so there.

how I'd fix dead space three: have the asynchronous hallucinations go two way, so that even in single player, you see hallucinations as issac. then I'd add single player only content to counter the co-op only content so that it's fair in that sense. finally, I'd add more variety to the necromorphs and their random encounters, as it just felt like zombies and slasher the whole game. to play devils advocate for carver saving ellie in the end, is because carver learned not all sacrifices are worth it, and issac learns from carver that sometimes you need to cut loose threads lest they catch a doorknob and ruin your clothes.

Honestly, the whole coop mombo jumbo maybe could had work if it was a spin off game,with different protagonists and keep the original protagonists as secondary, and have both players experiences hallucinations, maybe have them suffer hallucinations both alone and together, heck, even st random moments one character imagines an enemy that dies of a quick shot,melee, or when landing a hit on its targets, but wouldn't cost hp to tank the hit, making it more usual if the coop characters are separated. It's more of a tool to force people to stick together. As they (the protagonists) slowly turn crazy, maybe even against the secondary characters due the markers influence, or even against 'each other' like in the awakened DLC. In a way,similar to your idea. Maybe add some storytelling via the environment, like Left 4 Dead does.
