Add me to the club. I replaced my aux battery last weekend and the new one must have not been fully charged because both batteries were dead when I went to start it 6 days later. I couldn't even jump start it. I also tried jump starting it using the first post under fuse box, which supposedly jump starts the aux battery, but the engine sputtered and died as soon as I removed the jump start cables. So thanks to this video, I removed FUSE 42 and the negative aux cable and it worked like a charm. It jump started right up and kept running after removing jump start cables. It appears the main battery is now able to recharge as it restarted after running for only a few minutes. This video was a lifesaver. Thank you for posting and for the helpful comments below.

The batteries are wired in parallel. It makes no sense to have them be different sizes. The removal of the aux batter in a parallel circuit has no effect on the main battery. I am guessing that the aux batt was bad and it drained the main which is why you needed to get it jumped. I think if you had removed the ess fuse it might have jumped properly. Glad you are sorted

So I decided to give it a shot, got a 2018 JLU and like everyone else was saying it's the other cable that needed to be removed. So I tried that at first, started the Jeep, and light and warning still came on. So I disconnected the other cable and tried it, but got nothing at all, reconnected the first one and low and behold the warning light doesn't come on now! Thank you!

My experience: Got in, attempted to start my 2021 JT Mojave, it would not start, nor turnover, no clicking, just some extra dash lights (check engine, and collision avoidance - associated with ACC system). Problem was a dead (10.5V) battery, and the blessing was that it was in my driveway & I wasn't stranded somewhere less safe, thanks to my wife's car as a backup. And, as with any unknown mechanical or "how to" issue, I came to KZbin. What did we ever do before YT? LOL! So, apparently my AUX battery died, and eventually my main battery was taken down by the AUX. No warning. I hadn't turned on my Start/Stop switch lately, and that would've been a clue if I had noticed it not working. The batteries would've been covered by the 3/36 warranty, but I was at 37K when they died. How convenient, Mopar! So, I pulled the F42 fuse, tied off the same ground cable as illustrated in this video, installed a new main battery, and everything is back to normal, except I no longer have an operational ESS system. I'll eventually yank out the dead AUX battery, but good to go for now. Thanks!

I think it depends on how fast people do the bypass and how long the aux battery sits.
@tonycrispino4493Ай бұрын
Ultimately you want to pull the old Aux battery out along with the unnecessary wiring left behind. But this fix saves hundreds of dollars. There are some models where the Aux/Main battery leads are reversed, if you have any savvy with a voltage meter you can find it in seconds. But if it didn't work, try the other lead. That should do it. You effectively can save quite a bit of repair costs into the future with this simple hack. Both of my Jeeps are bypassed (2021 JT, and a 2022 JL). All Stop/Start or Run/Stop have the same flaw - the batteries are only as good as the weakest battery in the chain and you typically have to replace both by recommendation of Stellantis. $$$$. I don't think any of the manufacturers feel that this feature is a best design, but they get relief from the feds doing it. Which reveals why your congress is not the best technical advisor on your cars. Great, simple video. I have had zero issues with this bypass, which is less than I had before it..

@otroverlandАй бұрын
Yes. I think it's just the fact that Jeep decided to use what's basically a motorcycle battery to do all the heavy lifting for starting the vehicle. I honestly don't get it. If you've had this warning light come on, address it sooner rather than later. The aux battery charges off the main and if the aux is on its way out, it'll keep trying to charge and drain the main to the point of damaging it too. I had to replace my main about a month after making this video.

If it's cranking, but won't start, it's probably a fuel issue. Not getting enough gas. Make sure you don't have a clogged injector. Also, if its getting some gas and you crank it that long, it'll flood the engine and also won't start. Basically it's gonna be gas, air, and or spark. Check your plugs, air filter, and injectors.

same here, replaced both battteries in Nov, this morning the 'aux not available' popped up on the startup screen again..taking it to my local 4x4 shop next week for a diagnostic test. Not taking it to the dealership, they are worthless and charge way to much..mechanic at the shop recommended NOT disconnecting the aux battery/removing fuses, said it would lead to other issues.. i thought the tazer would have solved / prevented this issue...?
@oxouk10 ай бұрын
@@larshamilton40 I did some research on the taser website. It states to do “full reboot”, then complete two lock out cycles. If you have a manual and upped tire size in the taser, you have to perform a 30 second drive in 6th gear. The instructions are more detailed obviously. I’ll try it this weekend. I’m with you on not disconnecting fuses, battery etc… I want everything to be right.

Yes . It should work. And depending on make and model, you may have to swap which negative cable to pull. Try it the way I did it in the video.If the Jeep won't start, swap the negative battery cables. Also, if the aux battery has been on its way out, it'll pull power from the main battery and shorten its life too. So I'd say give this a try and see. It's only takes a couple of minutes.

There are 2 negative battery cables. One that connects to the main battery negative terminal and one that connects the aux battery negative to the main battery negative terminal. Depending on make, model, and year of the Jeep,you may have to swap which one you disconnect. The first time I tried this, I disconnected the other cable and my Jeep wouldn't start, so I swapped and disconnected the other and it worked.

if you leave the positive cable connected to the aux battery can it still draw your main battery down?

Yeah, but the charging system is set up to also charge the aux battery. I've watched my voltage and when it charges etc. Is it maybe better to leave the aux battery in since it's in parallel?

I'm saying it could possibly overcharge the normal battery if the aux is gone.
@otroverland2 ай бұрын
I'd say do what you think is best, but I've never heard of anyone having any issues removing the aux battery. I've been running it without the aux for 11 months now with no issues. If it's in parallel, then I don't think there's a concern of overcharge. It would just be less draw on the alternator.

Question maybe u can help me. My auxiliary battery went out so I changed it a few days the later the light came on so I change the main battery. The light still on. Do you think it’s OK for me to do what you did in this video just to get the light to go off?
@otroverland4 ай бұрын
I'd suggest if you replaced both and still have the warning light on to get it looked at. I'd say maybe it's still hanging onto to error code, but the time you took to replace the main battery should have cleared that code. You can go to an AutoZone and they will run a free diagnostic. So at a minimum, you can get the error codes it's throwing.
