For more than 2 years, we’ve been flying back and forth between The Philippines and the U.S., and while we usually fly Philippine Airlines when we’re exploring the islands, we’ve never taken their long haul flights across the Pacific. But today I’m leaving Erin, Brooklyn, and Colt in BGC and making a solo trip back to The States to spend time with my oldest daughter, Reagan, and figured this was a perfect opportunity to finally try PAL’s round trip to LAX. I wanna find out how PAL’s trans-Pacific experience compare to some of the other airlines we’ve flown AND how PAL’s cabin classes compare to one another. To that end, I’ll be flying economy to LAX and business class back.

Glad you had a good experience with PAL~ I flown solo with PAL when I was a kid and although we didn't avail the Unaccompanied Minor Service (since it was only from PH to SG so my mom said I already traveled a lot to know things), the crew were always caring and watchful over me. Back in July I flew with a few other couples Manila to Vietnam economy class on Philippines Airlines and we were all very unhappy with the food we were served. I have flown Philippines Airlines a couple times between NY and Philippines and don't ever remember having a bad meal. And that was economy class. A few weeks ago I did a business class flight Cebu - LAX on Singapore airlines due to a great price I was able to find, and I was very impressed with the food and the service.

Can't wait till PAL flys the A350-1000s alongside the 777-300ERs to LAX. According to aviation news sources, PAL ordered the A350-1000. They currently fly the A350-900 on their LONGEST route from Manila to New York City JFK.

I have always flown PAL yearly before covid. Last march we flew PAL again & was very disappointed w/the food. What happened 😢

I had the best experience with PAL as well♥️ The hospitality, the extra food eventhough my daughter couln’t eat solid food at 4yrs old back then, an extra blanket when my daughter puked on the ones she was given earlier, and of course the goldilocks snacks😍😍😍😍😍 I love it. They’re also very helpful with all our stuff in the plane including the carseat. Yes the carseat! My baby was 4 but tiny and only weigh 14 lbs. They helped me buckled up and secure the carseat👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼. I had flown different airlines, delta, american, united, northwest, damn a lot of them were rude! They had to serve first the ones that ask for liqour before they give me napkins that I ask when my daughter were vomiting! Remember I ask for napkins and water first first before the guy who asks liqour infront of me! The attendant saw that my daughter were vomiting. I ask again whe she brought in the liqour for the guy but not the napkin and water that I ask. 10mins later but nothing so I went to their station pissed. This was nothwest! A lot of these airlines charged me for blankets, pillows and earphones WTF!!! And their food sucks!!! Lufthansa was a mess! Their attendants were a bit rude they looked like they just woke up😆😆😆😆 Spain was good. Cebu pacific was good, just a national airlines but waaaaay better than these American based airlines. Malaysian Air was really good too. Good food, attendants were nice, so beautiful in their uniforms. And I wasn’t charged for a blanket 🙂 Korean Air was also good but Asiana was better.

👋🏼 My daughter and I just flew into LAX on 9/8 and we have Global Entry, too but didn’t need our cards. We just went to the facial recognition kiosk and went right through. The gentleman just called us by first names and we replied Yes with big smiles. Easy Peasy! 👏🏼 So worth the money. 💵 You have to do it. Enjoyed your travels. Phil, I have followed your channel for a few months as we were making our way to BGC last summer and you have great content. You actually do not need your global entry card when entering the US. I believe the information is tied to your passport. We have already used global entry twice. The only time i use the card is to use it as real ID to get into security for domestic flights for my kids.

I don’t like writing negative comments but my experience with Pal is not good. This was around 18 years ago. I noticed that the stewardesses were giving a better service to foreigners than the Filipino passengers. I’m not the only one who noticed this, my friends who goes back to the Philippines every two or three years noticed it too. We all stopped flying Pal. We want to fly Pal because of the food, but we all have stopped flying Pal and instead we fly Korean airlines or the other Asian airlines. Last April I went home, I flew Singapore airlines and I’m satisfied with the service and the food.

Philippine airlines is notorious for severe delays and tight fitting seats. Better you take China Air or Korean airlines even if not direct.

@@Mormonaf I know 18 years ago. But the other airlines are better. It’s only Pal I have experienced giving Bad service. Any other Philippine business establishment (except government) stores gives good service. I’m on the plane for more than 15 hours, why should I suffer being ignored. All my friends experienced the same thing. Stewardesses are just plain suplada to Filipino passengers and very nice to the foreigners.

I'm glad that your experience flying PAL was great --- can't say the same with mine. Flying out direct from JFK to Manila and back was stressful,in fact almost horrible. IDK maybe it was just me or a bad day to fly but I won't do PAL for now especially starting off at JFK. I was flying economy,I know but for some $3K budget I didn't expect such poor service I don't want to go into specifics. Anyway,you obviously had it good on this one and I'm so jealous. 🤣

I imo regardless if you are around each other every single minute of the day, it's good to get away sometimes and to have that time to yourself, even though he was visiting his daughter. Everytime I go home I always fly EVA AIR. I always request the isle with no additional fee. The last time I went home that was Nov 2022 and I purchased Premium Economy. As usual I chose the isle. When I asked for slippers just like Eva Air they provide slippers even basic economy, they said only business class can have it. My wife and Stay in the Philippines mostly. We fly PAL business class every time MNL to LAX it is fast and direct. Crew service and food are always great for airplane food. Yes the jets are a little older but everything else is great plus they are always the lowest price for Business class in the last 3 years. Plus my wife and I like the 2 seats by the window. I wish this would not change but i know will with new planes.

you’re right Phil, the hospitality in PAL is unmatched. the only thing I don’t like with PAL is they are 80% late. meanwhile I flew United SFO Manila for the first time in Businesa Class and food was horrible (for me) and american flight attendants treated me like a regular fellow lol (no Mr. etc etc haha)

100% agree on the United biz class experience. I'm not quite sure what to make of their training strategy over there. I will say that we've sometimes had fantastic crew, especially when it comes to them doting on our kids, but at least 60% of the time I feel like they hate their jobs. Interestingly, we've had fantastic luck with PAL being on-time, so we're sorry to hear that your experience has been pretty much the opposite :(

FYI, you don’t need to have your global entry card to use it. I’ve used mine over a dozen times and not once have I ever had to show the actual card. Also, since you have AmEx platinum, you can get reimburse for CLEAR which perfectly compliments TSA Pre. Game changer.

United recently launched direct flights to San Francisco from Manila making it the second carrier to offer direct links to the US mainland, and Qantas and Cebu Pacific have direct flights to Australia. Cebu Pacfic, JAL, ANA, Jetstar Japan, and ZipAir have direct flights to Japan. PAL doesn’t serve Western Europe anymore, but have plans to revive some routes in the near future when their A350-1000 orders arrive.

I visit the states 3 times a year sometimes 4 and the only comfy way to travel long distance from MNL to LAX is business class. its definitely worth it. Although i think the business class needs upgrade in my honest opinion.

Looks like you flew through terminal 1 in Manila. Can't say that is my favorite terminal. When I flew united airlines from Guam 🇬🇺 I went through terminal 3 which is much nicer

The next time you fly PAL out of NAIA T1, I really think the lounge is worth it. Tried it out last month when I flew to KIX and the new Mabuhay Lounge is phenomenal, really an upgrade over their older lounges.

Video is nicely done! Direct US flights to Manila and back are very convenient - don’t enjoy layovers. I flew PAL business class before but I don’t remember the fast track escort through immigration - I would pay for that extra benefit. Again, very good video.

the global entry card is only needed for land crossings. for global entry at the airport, the kisok just scans your face, you do not need the card.
