My helper has worked for me since I was 10.. till I was 24 before we didn’t need her anymore. she went on to work for another employer. Last year she was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer. she did her operation in singapore. With insurance money. However, reality is the treatments had to be continued back in Philippines due to the medical cost in Sg as a foreigner. Has been really sad she gave her good years to work here in sgp. We benefited and ofcouse her family back in Philippines benefited from her money. Till now we are occasionally helping and supporting here in Philippines financially.

Thank you CNA for these heartwarming stories. I was an expatriate Filipino executive who had the chance to meet these women working in the countries where we lived. They had a single minded goal to provide a better life for their families so I always thought of them as the country’s (Phil) unsung heroes though I wished it did not have to be this way. At Christmas we hosted get togethers for those who could not go home. It broke my heart to hear their stories , of their longing for home, of how much they miss their families especially their young children. But it warmed my heart when they speak of employers who treated them with respect, decency and kindness, who treated them like family. So thank you for featuring these wonderful families and the children who have not forgotten their ‘aunties’.

This is the best segment and show of CNA! Giving importance and appreciation for the sacrifices of Foreign helpers in Singapore. My sister is currently a DH in SG for more than 15 years now. I do remember when she left PH , his son is only 5 years old, carrying him in the airport to say goodbye to my sister. Tears drop in my sisters eye. My mom starts to cry and me too during that day😢. But we need to be strong so that my sister can give a better future for his son . Shes so brave to her decision, despite of being a single mom. The part that broke me was the revelation that Jonathan had put his "chao chao" (smelly pillow) into her luggage being packed for her return home.
