Also Ethan’s dad, the words started to be shortened because most of these were made online. So think back to texting and text limits, using minutes per word. Then later you got character limits on posts/comments. So ppl would shorthand words to be able to write more in a single post/comment. So not just laziness!
@raynsmith67593 ай бұрын
I'm glad someone said this! People tend to not realize that language is ever evolving and is affected by so many things, like technology as you've already mentioned. Shortening words has actually happened for longer than our struggles with only being allowed so many characters for our phones. "Etc." is a great example that we know and is a shortened version of "et cetera". Not saying what you've stated isn't another valid cause for the shortening of words, but I think some tend to forget that these aren't new trends and that people are lazy, they're just partaking in the normal evolutions of language.

I'd also suggest it being a result of game chat (for example, I imagine that Among Us chat is a big factor in the popularization of "sus") where you have to type quickly, so shortening words is a natural result of that

I worried my mom would be forever on my tail about not doing things with my kids the way she did with me. Instead, she praises my parenting style, assures me I’m a fantastic mom, encourages me in my creative pursuits, and adores my children. It took me a really long time to learn that my tightly controlled upbringing was done out of love. But she also recognizes that I, as a more relaxed parent, decided to do things differently, and that it’s okay. Thank you, momma!!❤

"going postal" wasn't just about postal workers losing their jobs, it was about the stress they were under AT the post office. before the rise of the Internet, a lot of folks used mail-order. meaning a variety of companies would send physical catalogues to EVERY address, then people would make orders via the mail, then the company shipped the order. that was a fck ton of mail. plus magazines used to be way more popular, and mail between regular people before email.
