They have produced excellent cost vs performance headsets that have topped sales, and have produced this app that makes user creations easy, but extremely simple looking (as opposed to vrchat where user creations require advanced skills, but look great). The app is now mocked by people who have little experience of social vr outside of vrchat, and the metaverse itself is mocked by people who don't know the first thing about anything.

The trade-off is that roblox has a steeper learning curve to be a creator, and you can't do it while playing. With horizon any noob can create right within vr. On the other end of the spectrum is vrchat, which requires working with full a blown game engine and 3d modeling software to create stuff, but then the graphics look insanely better.

Not exactly this. Vrchat requires 3d modeling and game engine skills to create. Horizon allows any noob to create stuff. Who did exactly this was Microsoft. They created altspace which was pretty much like this (except building is not multiplayer).

It really makes me feel big companies should be regulated and such money be reinvested into infrastructure or something that makes sense rather than wasting it on this.. imagine how many people might‘ve gotten fibre to the home for this money.. how much insulting you could’ve gotten to poor diabetics.. how much good you could do instead of making this crap..

@Dandin Dantalus I agree. 15 billion could build many more businesses. Homes for the poor, shelter for the homeless, anything but a failed game that nobody wanted. Not to mention that the market for VR is still so small that the return on the investment would be bad, even if the game were good.

That billion dollars figure is bs. Nobody knows how much this cost, but the number being thrown around is for everything vr and ar including headset research and development.

In vrchat you can't create stuff without coming off vr and having advanced 3d modeling and game engine knowledge. Horizon is like altspace and recroom, where the graphics are shit as a trade-off for ease of creation right there in vr.
