The one time I did an Elysia play through I decided to stay in the new world for a while before going back. The negative modifiers really make it hard to build up a massive army so I decided to conquer EVERYTHING east of the Rockies including Vinland and by the time that was done in 1615ish I went to Morocco/Spain and established an exarchate there to invade the ottomans. Super fun time I gotta do it again

Did all the other missions before returning to Europe. I was tier 5 defender of the fait and had about 2 million men with allies and puppets. No one in Europe ever stood a chance

Do the religious reform, both as pagan and as Elyssian Orthodox the reform helps a lot, also I would recommend you grow more your power base in the Americas before going to Europe, you still have a lot of uncolonized territory pretty close to you, also I don't know if you secured the nafta trade thing for the whole greek fire modifiers (neither if you have already the flamethrower units); also build more forts and make a second navy stack if colonizers get to you while going for Greece, I would also recommend gaining a footstep in the western Mediterranean to have close by safe points if you have to retreat or repair your navy or whatever.

You can spawn Centers of Trade. All of those little brown wagon icons are provinces where you can spawn Centers of Trade by devving up the province. It's a super cool feature.

If Hellenism works the same way here as in Ante Bellum, I highly recommend reforming it. You get to have 3 active deities at once to worship that you can switch at any time, similar to how Protestant works with the church aspects. It is really nice to have. Only issue is the religious disunity for a while. It won't be that bad for you though due to not having a ton of provinces at the moment that you would need to convert

By the way, the Phyteas guy you use to explore europe is a reference to the irl Phyteas, a greek explorer from Massalia who explored the north sea and is said to have arrived in the baltic sea too, around lubeck

As others have said, you definitely should reform the hellenic faith. If I remember correctly it gives you the option between 3 different sets of Greek Gods to worship, led by Zeus (default), Apollo (The Gods Kids get raised and you retire their parents), or Poseidon (where you focus on worshiping the sea and get gods related to Poseidon).

If you had told Portugal, then they would show up earlier along with all of the colonizers showing up. However you get a cool decision to make Portugal a special subject later in the game.

In the trade screen the icons of the wagon are all trade centers you can create as well look at the colonial ambitions mission for benefits of expansion. As well colonize the Caribbean because otherwise someone else will beat you to it

You can play as them. When the event about the dude leaving pops, the bottom option is "I'm going with him!" and that lets you play as them. As for Hawk playing them? Unlikely, he doesn't usually spend that much time on mod games.

Red missions want you to restore Rome, Green Missions want you to focus on remaining in the New World and conquering it, and the Blue Missions want you to colonize the rest of the world like India, Africa and the Spice Islands. You swap to Exploration if you want to do the Blue Missions, stay with Development Ideas for any others because you really don't realize how good that "Your colonies on this continent start with 200 settlers" idea really is.
