He has a very high fight IQ and a sharp eye for details like a fighter's rhythm. Although most people can attest to the importance of not telegraphing your strikes, I found his explanation of people not being able to judge distance from the front pretty eye opening, and it makes sense when you start to think of taillights in the back of cars for example. Also, engaging the hips at the last second really helps you understand how to both train for and apply the concept in your training, since most fighters' muscle memory is already adapted to doing the opposite. Edit: spelling

The concept he's explaining at 4:00 also appears very often in HEMA. In European swordsmanship, one very common theme is that the hands move before any other part of the body, be it the hips or shoulders or legs or anything. By initiating the actual attack itself (even just milliseconds) before putting the rest of your body into it, you can cut down telegraphing by a mountain. It's always funny how much all martial arts share in basic body mechanics.

Yeah its very interesting. I had teachers both in Wing Chun and Boxing teaching this, what can be difficult though is to apply it with as much force, as its generally easier to develop force if you make use of your body momentum first. Thats one of the reasons why many teachers of Wing Chun emphasizes many strikes, especially on weak/critical points, using before mentioned principal.

so funny seeing this comment. HEMA is what lead me to be interested in martial arts as a whole, trying to take elements from all styles and blend it into my fencing. i found one of sensei seth's videos on the subject which lead over to jesse. love when i see someone in the squad being the camera man for other people too. it's like a little cinematic universe easter egg.

Wrestling, Boxing, Martial Arts, Guns, Ammo, Explosives, traps, modern and ancient weapon use, swords, knives, etc. Love it since 8 years old. Veteran, Jr. Asst. Scoutmaster, and Native American Genocide Survivor! Still here after many deadly encounters with people, but fun as hell too, and still here, because old warriors don't get old being stupid, lol, Awesome and THANK YOU for the share. How didni miss this when it was originally posted? Micheal Jai White is my favorite actual martial artist in film and Jesse Enkamp is unarguably the best youtuber martial artist. So awesome to see them sharing knowledge and having a blast together. Thanks to Jesse and his crew for all the great content.

MJW’s humility despite phenomenal martial arts capability, (he has reached instructor level in no fewer than 9, YES NINE, martial arts), is astonishing. He casually demonstrates techniques that would easily overwhelm a competent and experienced Karate Master, (in the guise of Jesse Enkamp), smiling and joking casually as he does so. O-Sensei White, we at the CKJU Kai salute you! OSS! 🙇🏽‍♂️ 🙇‍♀️ 🙇🏻

Jai's teaching at 4:20 seems obvious, but it is exceptionally true and real: our eyes will never be able to assess the speed of a direct punch to the face, which is easier to be surprised by than hooks etc. I know Jai very well as actor and MMA fighter, though I did never expect him to also be such a skilled fighting teacher, easy to understand! Love you Jai🥰

MJW is one of those people you can't really understand how or why they didn't have a stellar career and got A-listed. For his younger years he had the looks, he has a great voice, presence, excellent moves. Similar issue with Scott Adkins, both of them should be up there starring in Marvel movies or I dunno, but earning the big $$$ and being world-famous.

Dude that "blockless" attack idea that Michael Jai White explains is SO damn cool. I first saw him explain it when he was instructing Kimbo Slice behind the scenes of the movie _Blood and Bone._ It's like the core of martial arts right there: technique and timing over strength and speed. So dang interesting.
