The first computer I ever bought (mostly) with my own money was a C128, also at a flea market in the mid 90´s. When visiting my dad in Croatia for the summer, the family he rented a house from also had one, and when I left they gave me all the disks. Two double row floppy cases with copies, all scene cracked, what a time.

Brings back my childhood. My first computer was a TRS-80 connected to my tv using a tape recorder for storage. Then the Commodore 128 was my second computer. in 1991 I bought my first IBM clone 486sx? By then IBM was beating Apple, if not for the Ipod, that company was doomed. Good to see. I loved your earlier restores just to see windows 3.1 and sim city again was awesome. I was 10 in 1983 when I got the TRS-80, this year I hit 50. Thanks for the memories.

Congrats Mike! Never owned a C64 or 128 back in the day. Instead started on a Vic20 then a ZX Spectrum 16k back in the 80’s. Don’t forget the C128 is backwards compatible with C64. On the screen just type go 64 and you are in C64 mode. Have recently bought myself a C128 desktop version which I’m very happy with. Just catching up on your Videos after subscribing from a KZbin recommendation 👍🏻 thanks 🙏🏻

Wow, now that's a score, and in amazing shape! The C-128 was a good machine for the time, even trying to be a business machine, either using special C-128 software like the CAD package you have there or running CP/M which is included in the set of system discs. After startup, if you type GO64 and hit return the machine will reboot in Commodore 64 mode for the most compatibility with C-64 software. The machine has two display modes 80 columns and 40 columns, each mode runs out of its own video generator chip, by default the 80-column display is on the RGB connector and 40 on the Chroma/Luma Split video (S-Video), Composite, and RF, you can even drive both displays 80 RGB and 40 Y/C) separately with software commands so you could have a dual monitor Commodore 128 :).

One thing, In the video, You never tested out fully the C64 mode or the c/pm mode to see if they work....On a c128, To get to the c64 mode, you either power the c128 by holding down the Commodore key (in the lower left corner) as the machine boots, or type "go64" when the machine is in c128 mode, either will get you there. To enter c/pm mode, just insert the c/pm disk included in the system diskettes folder and boot the machine.. How about doing all this in your next video? Your video was very good. You look like you scored a nice deal. You also never mentioned how much you paid for the entire lot...That's important...Maybe in the next video. Keep'em coming! ;o) Tony K.

I remember still being able to go to select retailers and find Commodore 64/128 games on the shelves all the way up to 1990. It really died down after that and couldn't find them any more. These systems were so much fun to have and play around with. They were amazing little machines with so many different peripherals that were really fun to fiddle and tinker with. They even had a monthly magazine up until the late eighties that provided demo disks and printed code for various games that you could type into the Commodore in BASIC which would allow you save the file to disk and play the games yourself if you had the time and perseverance to type in the code yourself.

Computer users of today really sadly .issed out on the best era of computers, which was from 1980 to 1995. After Commodore and Atari went bust / stopped making stuff, and all the others (like SGI, Sun, etc), computers got really boring. Apple is about the only non-wintel systems around, and they are all too conservative on what they try to do. Linux seems to be about the only fun outlet, or even some of the less known projects, like BeOS and ArcaOS. I muck with old computers (like my c128!) Because of this.

Man, seeing so many C64 games on disk is kinda surreal. I still have well over 100 tapes(a good chunk of them(maybe 20-30%) are cover tapes from magazines where they'd have 1 freeware game and a commercial game demo per side, think like the CDs you'd on the front of Playstation and PC magazines) and along with my C64 under the stairs. I remember me and some friends going to town as primary schoolers on Saturdays with our allowance, one of us would go to Dixon's(electronics store) and buy a pack of blank tapes, and the rest of us would go to Boots(a chemist that sold computer games for some reason) and buy a game each from the £1.99 section. You can probably guess what happened next. I still have almost every game listed on the brosure in the Karnov box. Some of them are jewel case budget rereleases, and a few of them are original big box. As for the first floppy disk you run, I think that may have been a magazine on disk. You press return to open a file and that would contain an article.
@senilyDeluxe6 ай бұрын
Very rare for me seeing that many original game disks, I got truckloads of C64 disks and they're all pirated copies of course. I've got like 6 original disks and then several hundred bootlegs. Someone had given me a C128D (desktop with builtin disk drive) in the late 90s. Man I loved that machine.

When you have time open up the power supply. They are known to have adhesive/glue around the capacitors. Over time it degrades to a point that causes it to absorb water. The area this occurs will rust out. Resisters rust as well as metal links/traces. Two of mine were damaged this way.
