I play contra alto and it’s so annoying to put it together, you have to soak your reed in your mouth for like so long to get hit working, the neck part is so hard to put in because it’s so tight, and the bell is humongous

Look at some pre WW2 pictures of sub contrabass saxophones in Germany...I remember seeing one so large that it was on an oxe cart... but I've never seen a sub contra CLARINET... thanks for posting n playing....Respect

Whether you are dealing with very huge woodwind and brass instruments, it’s EXTREMELY important to have a lot of air, because otherwise getting to those very high notes and very low notes will be very challenging and impossible.

This is a Selmer Contrabass Clarinet pitched in Bb (priced around $45k), he is using a standing peg in the video. I sit next to one of these in rehearsal multiple times a week and it is very doable to play while sitting. Only 3 octo-contra-altos are known to exist and this is certainly not one of them.
