I FOUND A LOST MEGATEN GAME!

I cannot believe I found a megami tensei game that seemingly very few people in the world know about.
Since the recording of this video I did manage to buy the magazine, I will be scanning it and uploading the magazine as well as providing an update with any new info I find.

Game sounds quite interesting, only thing I can think of is Giten since you're a Devil Buster there, but even then is not really a main thing in the plot, but the game sounds fun, wish it was released xD

If it was really Golden Axe-ish, it would definitely be my kind of game. Atlus could make another attempt at an SMT beat'em-up nowadays to modest success, since the genre has had a bit of a resurgence, at least in the west.

Interesting how this is connected to Majin Tensei, as that game has somewhat of an elemental theme to its locations in the Makai especially (there's a clear "ice world", " fire world", etc). Probably a coincidence though.

Maybe the entry for Devil Buster Busters is a joke on how Devil Busters was canceled. The playable characters also seem like stuff you'd see in any classic SMT. The Girl is like basically any Heroine in the series up until Nemissa(I think she's the last Heroine type character to come IIRC), the Machine sorta character makes me think of a heavily prototypical Demonica Suit and the Demon guy made me imagine Demifiend. These sort of "What Could've Been" situations are why I adore stuff like prototyoe designs, early concept arts, early drafts and of course, dummied out content or simply canceled stuff. I admit most of the appeal is probably because I'm imagining a heavily idealized version of the game, but it sounds cool.

I never expected another guy to find out about SIMS an underrated SEGA game developer, most notably for me for making the ebst version of the Power Rangers movie game, far better than the SNES one. Now, if only anyone can finally found that magazine article about the cancelled XBOX Atlus action game with Cerberus being a summon attack, like a prototype Raidou. I swear it was a thing back in the 2000s.

I think the only reason this game was canned was just because of 3 reasons, 2 being rather obvious and the last one being a bit less obvious. 1st reason: The game seemed to be a little ambitious for a franchise being known for having RPG or SRPG gameplay for almost every single entry up to that point. 2: It was a Sega CD game which, besides games like Sonic CD and some other rare gems, was known for having rather bad, low quality movie styled games that just went to the discount bin or trash can. Having to buy a console plus an add-on would be too much just to play one game especially when adjusted for inflation. 3: It was probably coming out too late for the Sega CD, and when the Saturn was about to release, they probably just canned the idea and used the DB Bros design for Devil Summoner simply to not waste such a design. This probably also explains why Jack and Pyro are also special units in the 3DS Soul hackers port as they just wanted to keep using the designs as a remnant of this failed project

In the japanese version of Persona 3 the mmorpg that you get the hermit s-link on is called Devil Busters Online instead of Innocent Sin Online, what if that's actually a reference to this unreleased game instead of an smt 2 reference like we all thought it was? Innocent Sin was also unreleased in the west so maybe it makes sense?

@@Larrue but being an Atlus property, isn't it possible they used the basic outline to make their own game? It's not unheard of for games to be scrapped and change developers that make their own changes to the game before releasing in a totally different form than it started out in. Metroid Prime 4 is currently stuck in that process, and Kingdom Hearts III went through it.
