New to your videos, as a snake person, the title really got me. Water Moccasins (Cottonmouths) are not what those were. I saw another comment stating they were water snakes, which is accurate (I have water snakes in Kentucky!) Head shape, especially if you have coral snakes, is not a good indicator of a venomous snake, especially since so many species, such as water snakes, garter snakes and rat snakes, flatten their heads to appear larger and more intimidating. It worked on you two! I would recommend, again especially since you are in Florida, joining a snake Identification group and learning to accurately identify all of your venomous species. And if you are certain something is venomous (Even if it isn't like these guys) I don't recommend moving them. Inexperienced handlers get bit.

Water snakes! Yes, I guessed that as well.
@Lovell93 Жыл бұрын
Yes and the sad thing is, so many people in this country constantly mistake these water snakes for water moccasins and kill them. To all the people who may happen to read this comment, there is absolutely NO reason to kill a snake, whether it's venomous or not. They are very important for the environment, and they are amazing creatures that deserve to live on this planet just as much as we do! Kentucky actually made it illegal to kill the water snakes because so many people were killing them for no reason! I am also a snake keeper, of venomous and non-venomous, so I love them very much and am saddened whenever someone kills one of them for literally no reason.

The snakes were harmless brown watersnakes (Nerodia Taxispilota). It's probably worth learning all of the aquatic and semiaquatic snake species (if not all local species) considering how often you're out in water-related areas. That way in the future you know what to avoid and what is safe to interact with (if need be).

Next time you encounter this snake problem in a pool like this, cut a few holes about 3 inches above the waterline. If you make them about 3x3, the snakes will find them plenty easy to escape. Just be sure to cut those holes on the side(s) you want the snakes to leave from! Edit: Also, slicing about an inch or two below the waterline will spill less water/fish at once and allow you to concentrate them in shallower water over time without great risk of spreading helpless fish across the grass.

Thank you for saving the fish. Im a reptile lover and the snakes are more afraid of you than you are of them, they just want out. They probably got in and they cant get out. May i recommend getting snake tongs so that if you do have this issue again, you are less likely to get bit, especially if it is a venomous species. Also some of the little riddles dont always work as i have an older corn snake that has a triangle head. I recently adopted him and am working on getting some weight on him. But gripper tongs would work best for you in case this happens again. Im so glad you finished this series as well as saved the snakes. Most people would kill them but they do serve as pest control.

So whenever I walk my road, I always make sure that I have a golf club with me just in case I come across them. I’m not that worried about the water moccasin, because when it was lounging in the creek on the rock in the sun it sensed me coming and slithered into the water and away from me.

Those are actually brown watersnakes! So they're non-venomous but a bite would definitely hurt! You can tell by their patterns, tail, and heads. The main destictive difference is Brown Watersnakes have a brown squared pattern where the corners don't touch eachother. Cottonmouths have black bands that wrap around to the belly, they also have black tipped tails, and black stripes over the eyes that kinda make it look like it has a mask, which these snakes didn't have. I'm not a snake genius, but did learn how to identify them due to spending many summers out in the middle-of-no-where country near a river.

I was kayaking in New York when me and my mom saw what I think was a garter snake poking out of the water. It was absolutely terrifying, that you for making these videos for us despite the danger.

That Raphael Catfish is gorgeous. And I loved that you were able to get all the snakes out without incident! There were a total of 6 snakes in that water when you first waded in that pool! Scary! 😮

I pride myself on being somewhat of a snake expert 😂 I mean I own 19 snakes, 8 of them being water snakes, and I can say without a shadow of a doubt that those are not water moccasins, but they are a common misconception for them. Those are brown water snakes, they’re non venomous genera of the natricine family, and they’re VERY smart. I own two named Willy and Samantha 😂

@@oiBlagFrom what I've learned watching Snake Discovery's and Clint's Reptiles' videos, there isn't one sure way to tell if a snake is venomous if you don't know what it is with certainty. So if you're not sure, just leave it alone and it'll leave you alone. Snakes usually only bite humans if they're scared.

@@oiBlagFacebook has a few Snake Identification groups. You just send them a photo and your location and their admins will post the species. I don't catch snakes like l used to but it is neat to see so many in the groups.

10:22 that’s a common water snake AKA fish snake. They have the ability to make their heads triangle shaped to fool predators. I live on the water in South Louisiana & these are everywhere down here. They can sense dying fish or even stressing fish, like a fish on a stringer.

Those are actually not venomous, they are water snakes but still may hold bacteria in their mouths. Stay safe!
