My Favorite Fish Died…

In today's video, one of my favorite pet fish mysteriously DIED... Our newest phantom redtail catfish worth thousands of dollars died over night, and we have no idea how. We also found a dead koi in one of our ponds while we were feeding and updating you on all of our fish. In this video we also moved our new arowanas into the koi pond so they can grow much quicker and become the giants they deserve to be! RIP sweetcheeks :(

might have been stress from the move or even an internal problem. its common for many wild fish [ and a lot of tank bred ones] to have harmful parasites. installing a few quarantine ponds would really help with the safety of your pets and prevent illnesses

No, that looks exactly like a BAD BACTERIAL infection that my pure white mirror scale koi. I had to treat my entire 50k gal pond with 250+ koi. They're all happy & healthy now!

Bobby, I know you love netting but you have to have a quarantine! You can just add fish from trash ass water in your beautiful ponds. Set up a heated pond with chemicals and treat these junk fish! Also treat your bait fish too! Also maybe a PH spike from the new elements added

That’s very true. It’s not a good idea to put fish from disgusting, dirty, trash-ass water into ponds/tanks with healthy fish. The fish could have parasites and other diseases that could spread to the healthy fish and kill them. Always have quarantine ponds/tanks set up to put these fish in so, if they do have some sort of disease or parasites, they won’t spread them to the healthy fish.

Wild cought, she may have had a parasite problem you didn't notice. I know she's a pet, but opening her to check for internal parasites may save the rest of your tank.

Reminds me of my 2 yr old goldfish. We moved to a newer tank and Sam did great, then a cousin caught a wild smelt and she died about 3 days later. Maybe a quarantine period before adding new fish to existing ponds with established fish could help prevent to strange unexpected deaths in your prized pets.

If you added those red tubes recently and she was in them for a while I can only think of one thing The PH was slightly changed from either the orange on those hides either the paint or rust; not sure if you said what it was made out of but if its cinder block, metal rust or paint it can change the PH If thats what her hang out spot was then that slight change in PH could have did it, maybe in the future put the hides in a test batch of water and see if the PH changes So sorry for your loss, also sorry if im wrong about the hide material im just throwing out stuff that might be helpful

1. Set up a quarantine pond prior to releasing into your ponds. Treat them with antibiotics for the most common diseases. If any wild caught fish have a parasite that’s not visible to the eye, it could easily wipe out the rest. Better safe than sorry 2. Consistent water parameter tests. Not much else you can do

The only thing I can think of is that as you said she was caught from the wild and she also was really loud but super friendly as if she was a pet previously but that mellow soul might have been a sign that she was just really old and maybe over the night she just past away

I work at a mom and pop pet store and when we lose a fish we worked hard on growing it’s such a bummer. Try not to get discouraged sometimes it just happens and it’s out of our hands ❤

I think the fish didnt take the move from a wild environment to a controlled environment too well. It went from roaming freely and having an infinite amount of space to being in a pool with other larger fish. This isnt uncommon, it happens to some of my fathers larger fish all the time ESPECIALLY arowanas. Animals do have feelings after all. They go through all the emotions we go through and more. My second theory would be an internal problem, like a parasite or an organ failure. The fish couldve been living with pain on the inside and we would never even know. She was also very vocal, maybe it was a sign?? I dont know. RIP Sweetcheeks you will forever live through our hearts❤

Sorry for the loss. I know what it's like to lose fish after getting attached to them. One thing I'm thinking that maybe killed the catfish is the other fish by ramming into her at night time. From my experience with fish alot of aggression happens at night time. The damage might not show up on outside of body but maybe internal damage was done.

Most likely digestive parasite from being in the wild. Esp with no physical damage. You could have checked the stomach as well, but regardless it wouldn't have changed the outcome. Most likely she had it for awhile and won't have any impact on the other fish, especially because they don't nip or fight like you said. Sorry for your loss brother, I just saw this 7 months later.

Please setup a quarantine pond. I don't think it was your fault at all but it's better safe than sorry. Wild fish come into contact with so much stuff it's not worth the risk.
