A lot of people have been asking me about the E-bike in this video. It is the Troxus Explorer. I'll leave a like to the bike; you will be seeing a full review video of it soon.
www.troxusmobi...
Earlier this week I was looking at google maps scanning forestry roads when I noticed a few locations that looked like good boondocking spots, so I decided to take a chance. The forest roads were open, but some spots still have snow. The first spot I came to had a fallen tree blocking path. I located 3 campsites in total along the trail. Thanks for following along this weekend and I'll see ya next week.

Spent some time camping in the UP during Covid. Had a great time, campgrounds were empty. But being from California I wasn't used to the limited vistas. Holy cow you guys have a lot of trees!! But ya, had a great time, Michiganders are pretty friendly folks.

The best time to go out, pre bug and cold enough to keep most people at home. Moved from Michigan to Colorado and I miss those woods so much. When I was a kid I rode my mini bike along a very overgrown roadway and came across a demolished bridge. It took about 15 years before I found out it was part of a larger campground that was abandoned 50 years prior. It was never fixed up & reabsorbed by the forest till the 90s

My boy Cole is going nuts and what's me too ask, did you get a new E-bike? If so, he would like to look it up and would appreciate the info. He asked me to ask you the name and model of bikes that you have now? He loves it. An my request is, when you make that decision to pull out your generator, could you possibly make a video on how that goes? I'd enjoy seeing that service video. I personally think your decision on changing out your stairs the way you did, is the mod I'd like to do with mirena. Made the decision to get the "Fox Landing" when I purchase mine and honestly, it wasn't a very good decision I must say. Has way too much flex when you use it, it's my only regret when I bought my 864. Well anyway Kenny as always, you be safe and best wishes to you and yours.

Thanks WIlliam. Ill be sure to record when I pull out the genny. That bike was a new one. I've had it for a month now. I've been riding it at home and decided to bring it with for this video. It is not a folding bike but it still fits in the back seat if I remove the front tire. It is called a Troxus. It is now my favorite bike. I will be making a video on it soon. My old original Ebike is the Rad Mini 4. I have made a ton of upgrades to that bike. The breaks are the only thing original on that bike. The bike I got this winter " Mandi's Bike" is the Engwe EP2 Pro. It is a good bike at the price point.

There are some beautiful state parks south of Duluth near Carlton if you don't mind people. Jay Cooke is just across the river. I'm not sure they will have any open spots, but it is beautiful! I normally go about an hour and a half north of Duluth in the Superior National Forest. If you keep heading west, you will come to Walker Minnesota. You will be passing through parts of the Chippewa National Forest. I have many camping locations there. Hit me up through email, and I'll see what I can help with. Otherwise campsites.net shows some cool boondocking spots in the Chippewa as well. Itasca County has awesome dispersed camping as well near Hill City. You can find a list of dispersed campsites on their website .

That bike is called the Troxus Explorer. I really like it. I have a folding ebike as well. Both are nice but the Troxus feels like a mountain bike. It's more comfortable than a folding bike. On the folding bike, I sit in a heads-up position over the front tire. It's not bad, it just feels different than a standard bike.

I used Henry Tropicool 887 coupled with Henry 885 to coat my roof about 1 year ago and like it so far. I did a lot of research and spoke to some knowledgeable people that have used multiple products prior to choosing 887/885. One note: once you go with silicone coating, you cannot use anything else. Hope this helps and keep up the great videos. PS: Nice to hear spring warbler songs during your walk.

I ran into the forestry worker on a walk that morning. He said the US forestry service abandonded the camp site many years ago. There was three sites along a half mile stretch of the river. They were separated by a quarter mile. They decided the road was too narrow and did not want to maintain it anymore for only a few sites.. They opened up a new rustic campground a few miles upriver. They removed all of the signage and no longer list the site on the website. The forestry worker said he no longer maintains the spot. There are two sites of the original three remaining.

I agree. I get a lot of comments from people telling me that I should just stay home and sit on my couch because i have a nice camper.. I don't get it... the camper is twenty years old. Plus, having a nice camper makes spending two days off work in the middle of the forest enjoyable. If I was set up in a tent, I would stay home when it's 40 below zero or 100 degrees. But instead, almost every weekend for over two years, I have been in the camper.

I also had a chuckle, as I’ve been referred to as a Jack of all trades, more times than I’d care to remember. You name it, I’ve done it. And also, my nickname in one previous life of mine, was Kenny! With that phrase, there is more to it than most people know. So whenever anyone says that to me, I always follow it up with the last line. “A Jack of all trades, but a master of none….However, far better, than a master of one!” Cheers, Rob,Tasmania, Australia

I made it up to Michigan 2 summers ago. It was beautiful. I took a few days off and made a road trip out of it. I stayed in Wisconsin and spent a few nights on the edge of Lake Superior at a place called High Rock in Copper Harbor. I found a remote camping spot down miles of forestry trails. I met a few guys trying to get their Subaru's back there. They turned around, but I pushed through. It was sooooo awesome. I woke up to barges passing between me and a light house. I would love to go back. Those first few videos were fun, but never got many views. .

Deserted, not, abandoned. If it was abandoned it would be gated. The USFS has hundreds & hundreds of backcountry campgrounds, They are small like 8 sites giving one a place to make a basecamp while exploring the area on bike, or foot, or jeep, or ATV. They are lonesome because usually there is no DRAW. No lake or stream or canyon or incredible vistas, so most people go to the popular NP. USFS campsites are great for peace & quiet. !
@KennyOfAllTrades
@KennyOfAllTrades Жыл бұрын
I called it "an old abandoned campsite" because the forestery worker who maintains the new camp miles away asked, "How did you find the old abandoned campground?" He said the forestery service abandoned the site years ago because it was only three spots on a half mile stretch down a crappy logging road. He said that it no longer exists on maps or literature. Its not maintained by them, as you saw from the downed trees blocking one of the sites, and the road washes out. I could have called it a decommissioned camp site. But KZbin would not have pushed it out. It was super peaceful. One local chimed in and thanked me for not giving away the location of their hidden gem.

Thanks! I recently picked up a power station with solar panels. I'm not sure about adding more to the camper. When you’re so far back in the sticks you can only get a single FM station remember the old adage. Your radio is only as good as the antenna. If you have a antenna on your vehicle of the screw on rod type and it’s bare metal. Simply attach a alligator clip to a long wire and hook the alligator clip to the Antenna. Most car rod antennas are generally no longer than a yard long. Just use a really long wire attached to the alligator clip. You can attach something like a rock to the wire to throw it up into the top of a tree. Something like a 100 feet will be much more effective than a 3 foot car antenna.
@KennyOfAllTrades

That's is an awesome idea! I'll have to carry that I the camper for those situations.
@johngoodin3445

It’s so true that your radio is only as good as your antenna. If you have something like any sort of old fashioned bare metal car antenna you can make it work for you better in a pinch if you have a way of making it taller. Just look at the type of car antenna that your vehicle has. If you can replace it with a solid metal antenna. Attach a old fashioned alligator clip to a really really long wire. Remember that you can get the wire really easily higher in a couple of ways. 1. You can simply attach a heavy object such as a rock and throw it up into the branches of a tree. 1. You can throw a weight really easily high with your fishing pole. Throw it high enough that you can pull it up over a high branch. Pull the fishing line down to you. You can then attach the long wire to your fishing line and pull it vertical. Remember that the higher the wire the better. 3. If you don’t have any trees just stop by any Dollar Tree and purchase a party balloon for $1.25. Then attach the balloon to the wire. I’ve got a portable radio that came with a FM Antenna jack. With the regular antenna I can get about three stations with the rod retracted. And about 23 with a 15 foot antenna connected to the jack. Good alternative for the rod antenna being busted. EBay sells 1/4 “ to 1/4 “ audio cables up to 100 feet. That’s 33 yards long. Good for a bug out situation then all of the local radio stations are down. And some if not all of the cell towers are down. Remember even under the best circumstances FM radio stations only have a range of about 35 miles even in a vehicle before the signal starts fading out. With a wire 100 feet up you’ll be able to hear more stations even in a SHTF scenario.
@KennyOfAllTrades

Thank you so much! That's all great information. I use the small 10 metal whip antenna mounted to the top of the camper. I coild easily attach an alligator clip with a long length of bare wire. I appreciate the comment!
@johngoodin3445
@johngoodin3445 Жыл бұрын
It doesn’t have to be bare wire. In a SHTF scenario, something like old fashioned speaker wire might be better. You know the heavy gauge stuff RadioShack sold back in the 80s. It would be fairly well insulated yet flexible. When you put it away roll it up into a large coil. Over time that’s going to be better for it rather than bow tying it

@KennyOfAllTrades

I was talking to a guy who went the truck bed liner route. There's no doubt that sounds awesome. The company even provides two lifetime warranties. (for you and the next owner) I'm not sure if my camper is a good candidate. It's going on 20 years old. He had it installed on a new 50k truck camper. I paid 6 grand for my camper 6 years ago. The roof would cost half of what I paid for the camper. I love my camper. I hope it lasts another ten years! But I'm not sure it would be a good investment on this old girl. 🤔 Who knows? I definitely couldn't afford another camper, so maybe the truck bed liner is a good idea. You give me a lot to think about. I'll definitely get a top coat on it sooner than later. Thanks for the comment!
