If you had bought it 15 years ago and paid about 2 grand per year for storage and insurance, you’d be out around $30K. That same money got you the car, quality repairs where it needed, and one hell of a story for your grandchildren. I’d say that’s a huge win all around and totally worth it. Congrats.

So, grandad is from Germany... he bought a mercedes 300D in 83 imported from Germany. He gave me the car when i was 17. I was named after my grandfather, so all the customs plates on frame, engine, and dash all said my name. Wellp, i sold it like 25 years ago and regret it everyday.. cant find it, and you have no idea how lucky you are man, enjoy that car!! *fun side note, my first car was also a Saturn 😂

A heart warming story. I would definitely have done the same thing. My grandfathers 66 New Yorker. I ❤️ that car. It unfortunately is gone. Congratulations to a job well done. And ironically. Our New Yorker came from REEDMAN in Langhorne !! Ted REEDMAN. So. I would love to see your 383 treasure! Just place the gold Pentastar on the bottom of the right fender. 😉👍

😮 This is by far, the most beautiful vehicle anyone on KZbin has shared. I have always loved the pre-80s vehicle design language. The couches for seats, the solid metal stalks, simple engines. All so beautiful. That colour, too. GORGEOUS.

I had a 71 Plymouth that belonged to my Grandmother and here is a couple things I did that made a significant difference in drivability. New Biilstine shocks all around and disk brake conversion on the front. I was driving in California and had to make a panic stop in traffic where I missed hitting the car in front of me by swerving toward the center of the off ramp. Easy to find the parts at the junk yard and use new rotors and calipers/pads. You've got an extremely nice car there, I'm jealous.

Matt it makes me feel good that you got your grandfathers car back. I remember my pops selling my grandparents vehicles. Granted not as old as yours but into today’s times over 25 years. 87 Buick Regal & a 71 or 72 Ford F150 they weren’t as nice as yours but clean. Anyways I remember being really bummed about them getting sold. I really wanted to keep them both.

@@lsxmatt great video man hopefully in the next month I get to FINALLY start rebuilding my early 20’s pickup. 2001 GMC Sierra regular cab short bed step side 4x4. It’s rough lots of rust idk I might not even be able to redo my truck. I plan on fixing the frame I literally thought myself how to weld just to be able to repair the frame on this truck when the time came. But the more I look at it the more I’m really starting to worry if it’s even going to be possible. I will see here soon when I start to take it all apart. At the end of the day IF rebuilding my truck’s frame isn’t possible I’ll keep the drive train. And find something like a Apache or 60’s era GMC to swap it all into.

The roads and highways in Germany are much smoother here in the US. You must be in a dream state getting that car back in such good shape after all those years and all over Europe! I keep remembering stuff right before you get to it. Like where the hood release was and right before you put the gun on the lug nuts. Also, I believe the original Mopar hose clamps were those spring wire type and sometimes when they are old enough and rusty they can snap / crack when you go to remove them.

What an awesome story you were able to track down your grandfathers car and returning back to the family after 14 years. Sometimes you wish you had the means to hang on to certain vehicles or things but you can’t realistically keep and sometimes you regret it but luckily you were able to find and buy it back. Put the temporary tag on, it could help dodging tolls for a little. If you don’t get your radio working I’d suggest a retro sound unit and possibly some of their speakers as well.

There WAS something special about it! It was your grandfathers car and you cannot replace memories. My mom passed in January this year. She had my late grandfathers gold pocket watch that never worked since she inherited it. Well I took it home a few months ago and immediately dropped it off to have it serviced. Its a Hamilton model. It had a stand but the glass dome was long gone and had broke years ago. Servicing it was about $140 and after searching over 2 hours i found a glass dome that seemed like it would fit perfectly for about $15. It arrived and fits the stand like a glove! I now have it in the guestroom and i cherish it and will till I pass. Grandpas memories alive with me. He got that watch as a 50 year gift for having worked at Western Union! Imagine 50 years at one company, unheard of.

That is so cool! What a great story. I have my grandfathers 1950 Chevy 2 door but it has remained in the family since it was new. I got the car from my cousin in May, 2000 and have been working on it ever since. My cousin hot rodded the car in the 60's & 70's so it doesn't have any of its original drivetrain. I have a 454 with a 4 speed and a '57 Pontiac/Olds rear end in it. Like your Newport, the '50 will remain in our family forever. 😀

What an absolute STUNNER!!! I love all of the mid-60's pillarless 4 doors, the Monaco's and Newports stand out in that line. My first car was an Olds 98. There was something about that generation of cars, they were build amazingly well, they were luxurious for their day and yet by todays standards so simply built [aka reliable]. A guy in the town next to me has one of these in gold and O covet it everytime I see it out of his garage! LOL

WOW! What great luck. What a beautiful Chrysler, smooth and quiet. we had a 67 New Yorker that was very much like your car. Like myself how many of use wish we could retrieve from our past. I was with my parents in Las Vegas when we traded in our 67 Mustang in on a 69 Chevrolet Concourse Estate. The fanciest trim of the car which is basically a 69 Chevelle wagon with the 300HP 350. I took care of the car until my dad got stationed in Germany and we had to sell it. I had my hopes of getting that car when I turned 16 later that year.

Matt, congrats on getting your grandfather’s car! I know that that means as a grandson to get a hold of his car. Mine had a 1969 Lincoln Continental but unfortunately it was too far gone and wasn’t worth restoring. Maybe someday I will find one like he had and be able to cruise myself. The triangle and first aid kit along with a safety vest are required equipment by law in Germany. I know because I have been deployed here 9 months. Good luck, and awesome find ! 🎉

in 1986 I bought my uncles 1966 Dodge Charger it had left handed threads on the drivers side. I couldn't get the tires off so I called my uncle and he gave me a hard time about the left handed threads. I thought he was pulling my leg but sure enough once I cranked the 4 way the wrong direction the tires came off. I was lucky there were no cordless impacts back then or I would have snapped off the stud bolts for sure. good memories. you have a beautiful old Chrysler. enjoy it.
