i like going to coney island - i stay in sengkang, just 30 minutes from my home. sometimes i sneak out at 7am, and just sit at the ocean steps. when i have time, i'll make a whole day of it -some light food, a book, picnic!

Such a lovely chilled vibes video. Makes me miss Singapore so much! I used to love to go to the Southern Ridges and then the Botanical Gardens of course too!

Thank you - it brought back some memories from my first visit to Singapore. I got very hot, and also badly bitten (insects) - because the park is in central Singapore I hadn't bothered with insect repellent! I also remember the Artisan's Garden in the park, which (IIRC) is the last vestige of the original 14th century Malay royal palace complex, and the garden tells something of that history. I saw a class of maybe 8-year olds who had been brought there as part of their schooling, and seeing their teacher explaining to them, in several languages, what it was about.

The bamboo grove located at the end of gardens by the bay is the best in my opinion. Pretty secluded without much crowd, zen- like atmosphere and the lighting at night is absolutely to die for! It brings me straight back to Arashiyama.....

Full marks to you Georgia for venturing out to the parks in the Singapore heat. ( you must be mad). I am afraid the weather takes all the fun and relaxation out of the enjoyment of the beautiful surrounds, yes with 10C lower would be very pleasant! I grew up in Singapore and I find it extremely challenging to venture out to a park due to the heat. The only park I have been to is the Botanic gardens 5 years ago, very green and beautiful but I was so so hot it was 😜.

Good job surviving the heat! Glad to see you having fun. It's important to take time out for nature in the concrete jungle we live in these days.

30 years ago, we used to play a game of squash at Fort Canning every week. I think that building 3:13 used to have rows of squash courts. We didnt realised back then that there is a tunnel, otherwise we would have explored a little bit. But those days the place was quite gloomy and we didnt have internet and KZbin to rouse our interest. 😄😄😄

OMG, you did it. I've never walked up there before because of the heat. Singapore was part of Malaya which was colonised by the Portuguese, followed by the Dutch and finally the British. The British left a deep heritage in this region especially it's style of governance, education and culture. The fork and spoon eating came from the Brits; before that it was hands from banana leaves or china/chopsticks. The largest historical trading port in the past was Melaka (Malacca),approx 2.5 hours drive from Singapore, in light traffic. If you visit there, you'll find lots of past remnants of the 3 colonials. In Singapore, you can find lots of British colonial bungalows and street names in Seletar 'camp' Airport/Aerospace. Most of these are government reverted properties for rental, after there British left Singapore. You'll need a bike or car to roam around Seletar (yuge area). It was a large army camp and had a vibrant flying school there in the late 1970s and was a favourite expat community housing estate. It's guaranteed to make you nostalgic about England in summer (heatwave?).

The good time to go there or any park or beaches is 7am to 9am or 5pm to 7pm. It is a bonus if the day is cloudy and windy or just when there is light drizzle. After the rain showers can be good too provided the sun is not shining and when the sun shines it gets humid. Wear a loose t shirt, bring your shades and a hat along. If we are lucky Sg could get 23 degree temperature in December. So enjoy

I used to live close to the park and we often went there late in the evenings. As a bird lover, tracing the nightjars was my high point. What felt eerie initially, felt so calming after regular visits.

Stayed in the Fort Canning Hotel four years ago, nice ! Didn't explore the park until last year, November. I hiked in via the Peninsula shpping centre, which leads to a massive "staircase of doom" ...ha ha. Good fun climbing that in the midday heat. 1:43 - The fountains with the playing kids in your video were deserted and soo peaceful. Never found the spiral staircase - nor your fave Bali corner (8:43). Good to see places I enjoyed and a few new ones!! So close to City Hall and yet so calm. :)

Hi Georgia! Love your videos! You should make a visit to Changi Village at the eastern end of Singapore. It has a different vibe compared to the rest of Singapore. Laid back, near the beach and relaxing. Weekends tend to be crowded so a weekday visit is better. Another interesting location is Sungei Buloh Wetlands Reserves in Kranji. Interesting place to see wildlife and mangroves. You can see all types of birds, crocodiles, lizards etc. Don't worry, the Reserve is very safe and easy to walk. The trees will give you plenty of shade.
