I remember Matty telling me at Nats that Tymon wasn’t actually truly color neutral; he is primarily white-yellow, but apparently can do other colors if he sees something more optimal on there, but primarily he is just dual neutral, which is why you see him using white and yellow for most of the wolves in his WR averages.
@STUCUBE Жыл бұрын
Wow, that’s actually something I didn’t know, but now that I think about it I do remember seeing him do white/yellow quite often
@christopher_campbell8 ай бұрын
I’m dual color neutral white and yellow, my thoughts are that if you go for cn then it’s cool you can find best and more efficient solutions. But there’s a good part to dual color neutrality. You limit yourself to two options and they could be possibly pretty bad. But you would know how to solve it unlike seeking easier solutions. Being dual cn helps you explore more complex solutions and better expand knowledge of various situations

1:03 I am CN but I have a bias to white/yellow (my lookahead is better on those colors) I guess it just depends on how strict your definition is
@STUCUBE Жыл бұрын
Ohh ok that makes sense. How easy would the cross have to be for you to consider a color other than white/yellow in comp?
@BrianJohnsonCubing Жыл бұрын
@@STUCUBE usually I would like to be able to see 2nd pair for other cross colors, or easy cross + 1. Since my lookahead is my weak point on these colors, I try to offset it by planning further.

I would suggest trying to use both white and yellow it can really save you when you have a really bad white cross or give you a really good time if yellow is insane. It’s not super difficult to learn either.

Color neutral is superior for championship finals tho, there's not much discussion there
@STUCUBE Жыл бұрын
That is very interesting. You obviously have more experience in the affects of this than most, so do you think it’s planning further in inspection that has the biggest impact in situations like this?
@twandullemond6800 Жыл бұрын
@@STUCUBE on a bigger scale of solves the times where white cross is bad will start to average out. When with such a small set of 5 solves there will be times where one color can be so much worse then the other. Every top cuber will agree that an average of five in a high pressure scenario can be quite random. And it is quite a miracle how representative the results of this world championship was, even though it was the most likely outcome.

@Progress_vs_time Жыл бұрын
The Speedcubedb youtube channel has a few podcasts, where both Tymon and Matty say that in comps they don't usually plan too much ahead in inspection, just cross +1 ("just" lol), as they'd rather do a good cross that allows them to not look at it, than plan 2 pairs with a complicated solution that hinders speed. Taking that into consideration, one could argue that being color neutral makes it easy to quickly pick the cross that has the solution with the fewest moves/most pieces solved, both for speed and for looking at something else. Then the "too many options to choose from" argument comes into play, and Yiheng pretty much proves that it is all possible without full color neutrality. I don't know, I only solve white, I think dual color neutrality is the way to go if someone has not been color neutral before it's too late to be color neutral. If that makes sense.

@pumpkinut5314 Жыл бұрын
Being CN does not mean you get faster times, you just get better crosses. It is still important on how you execute the entire solves instead of picking a color. Although solving only on white isn't very ideal as it really limits your abilities, yellow and white is a good combination. Most young cubers nowadays use dual CN and still become world class solvers.
@kiraPh1234k Жыл бұрын
Being CN does get you faster times. Better cross = faster cross. Faster cross average means faster solve average. Of course the rest of the solve also matters, solves don't stand alone. And there's likely many more things you can cut time from than your cross. However CN is the natural way, I see it every time I teach someone, every single one learns CN naturally. They never choose just one color to start a solve with. I have recommended after the fact to specific people to just try to stick with one color start if I see they have extreme difficulties in recognizing pieces, but it's always something I have to teach them specifically to do. It's only people who are taught to not be CN that aren't, since people naturally learn to recognize patterns and not colors for organization. I'm not saying it's bad to not be, but I am saying there's no reason to keep teaching people what is essentially a bad habit when it's entirely unnecessary and goes against the natural human inclination.
