Potter Hull Seacraft’s catch a pretty penny. If it’s rebuilt with only composites and no wood, then it’s a relatively fair price
@georgia-outside8258 ай бұрын
The labor that’s involved in the restoration is insane. I’m sure there’s not much on it that’s original. Would I pay it? No! If someone puts that much dedicated into an old boat they might as well keep their project and cut their loses when they sell it. Some one will buy it but it will take a long time.

I chanced upon an old Wahoo center console and it was a true gem. I think the Boston Whaler company sued them out of business for design infringements. It was a tri-hull and could really cut through the chop and was comfortable to fish out of. It was also bought for a song for just under $7k and needed nothing but a captain.

I Think these type of boats should be really highlighted so that new boat buyers can see that there is plenty of boats out there that will suit their needs and a reasonable price "IF" they know how to look and what to look for to keep them away from a money pit. prime example is the seacraft rebuild. a lot of people dont know but those earlier seacraft designs are actually being used in the new sailfish. The chines and strakes are from the original potter hull from the 70s because of the soft ride. great video!

This was an awesome video, I enjoyed it as much as a boat show video. Your analysis and opinion for each boat and its configuration was interesting and showed your broad experience with different boats and motor combinations. Again, this was great and many thanks for producing the videos. I hope you land a great boat that helps you along your path to what you ultimately want. I am searching for a smaller 4 stroke to replace the Evinrude 185 2 stroke that was on the boat when I bought it at auction. The max engine for the boat is 140hp so I am looking for anything from an older 90 to perhaps 120hp in an earlier 4 stroke. The 185 I have runs perfect and is way to much hp for the boat. I bought the boat at auction with a trailer, got it home, grabbed the tools and gauges, checked the engine vitals, and had it running in less than an hour, its just the wrong engine for the boat. I will need to do some trading in order to afford even the oldest of 4 strokes. We will see if I can make something happen so I can take my grandchildren out on the boat this summer.... If anyone runs into something that would work for me that I could trade for as much as possible, PLEASE let me know,... With great respect.... Joe

That can be both objective and subjective. A boat might be a good deal if let’s say it’s beat up, cheap and you can do the work yourself and save money making it better. Same boat might not be a good deal for someone not looking to do the work themselves. In general, if it floats, runs and doesn’t need any structural repairs like transom, or floor AND it’s priced low than I’d say it’s a good deal. There’s a lot of other factors but I’d start with those! 🤙
@JB-bb1zw7 ай бұрын
1st keywest lies about their sizes so always put a tape on their boats. Also Keywest like several other mfgs are notorius for including their bow pulpits in their sizes,, ummm wrong pulpits are never figured into size... That bayliner has a doelfin or stingray on the motor, that tells you right off the bat the boat has trim problems, not to mention your lifting the entire transom of the boat by the anti cavitation plate, thats where they bolt too, if you break that plate, youll never hold water around the prop Next on our list is the proline,, proline just like seafox you couldnt pay me to own one.. WHY?, you cant get at or replace the fuel tank without cutting open the f'n floor, what kind of idiot boat builder does that to its customers i ask you? This is why its important to know a lil bit about boat and think, what can go wrong when you looking into buying a used boat... No matter how much you think you know youll always miss something, so always bring an extra pair of eyes that also knows boats
@perfectfitboating7 ай бұрын

Pricing a boat isn't hard. Price the engine in your head, those are a known quantity, subtract it from the asking price, and then ask yourself if the boat itself is worth the remainder. Most of the time unfortunately, it is not. Here's and example: 1996 SeaPro 21 center console, 15k, the decent but used 2 stroke 150 on the back is worth maybe 4k, is the boat/trailer worth 11k.....? Or do you find a better hull cheaper and repower? Sellers need to think like buyers, because the pandemic is over and everyone has a toy for sale.

I always find it funny when people say oooo its a two stroke... better repoower with a four-stroke that costs 30k lmao.. and the four will NOT out last the two stroke that is well maintained. Never has, never will. Adding triple the moving parts in saltwater will never be great. I have four strokes. I have two strokes and the 2 have always been more reliable for a whole lot less money. lol we have a 79 johnson 85 that has never needed anything but an occasional water pump and one coil because I broke a wire putting the hood on a decade ago. BTW Been a outboard mechanic and repair shop owner for some 54 years now. Might have a clue what I am saying. Governments pushed 4 strokes on the planet and I have etech that outs them on everything including economy and no pollution out the prop shaft. Sorry, I know it is against the grain but I am curious how many 4 strokes will last ten to twenty years... or50 years like some of our two strokes that still run strong.
@perfectfitboating4 ай бұрын
I think the problem is finding an outboard that has been maintained to the proper standard is the issue. Every 2 stroke outboard on fb market place Craigslist etc has issues. At least in the larger v6 models. Even the v4 evinrudes that I’ve found are a mess. Add to that the lack of mechanics working on them anymore AND the lack of parts, AND crappy fuel, it’s not unreasonable to see why people would go 4 stroke. I agree the older 3 cylinder 2 strokes are amazing. Good luck trying to find any good ones down here in sfl. I actually have a 70 evinrude that still runs. But I got lucky. Youre an outboard mechanic. YOU, can fix your outboards. Average Joe may not be so mechanically handy. Some people may not want to worry about their motor and might just want to startup and go. I had that issue with the 225 evinrude I had on my boat before switching to a Suzuki. Carbs were a nightmare to tune and mechanics wanted 1000 to redo them. My new motor starts every time. Sips fuel. Yes, I paid 23k for it but the peace of mind is worth it. As far as reliability goes, I’ve seen tow boats down here with over 13k hours on Suzukis. Im not contesting the fact they do or don’t last longer or they’re better ir worse. Everyone’s situation is different. If I knew as much as you did, I’d prob be running a 2 stroke today. But I don’t, so my Suzuki works great for me. Thanks for the comment. 🤙
