Hello sir, I couldn’t reach my phone to change the video so I just listened to it. First off what a great story and you presented it very well. I’m 46 and after owning a guitar for over 30 years I’m a very early learner and your noodling made me stop and grab my guitar to practice. But the message of this video was wonderful. I am a vet I had some very kind people find me and send my on a hunt. I cannot tell you how healing that was. I now volunteer and take other vets on fishing and hunting trips. Giving back does so much more for a person than receiving. Thank you for posting this video and God Bless

First time on your channel, amazing video. Liked and subbed! Was just expecting a video of a guitar but got alot more. Sometimes the world feels so full of hate it's always good to hear from someone who puts so good back into the world. It might sound silly but we are all here sharing a brief moment in time that could be gone any second, and we are all in this together. Helping others thru hardships is how we raise eachother up. Can't wait to see what you do next

Jeremy, what a beautiful message. As a Florida boy, I’ve seen my share of hurricanes and I never thought that I would have to deal with them again when I moved up north to New Jersey. Enter hurricane Sandy and my deepest anxiety about hurricanes came back to me. That instinct to go out and help others was activated and I think most people should think the way that you do. Especially today, human suffering is everywhere and you can clearly see it each time you drive past a food bank or a soup kitchen. It is really important that we all have some measure of kindness, compassion and empathy towards our fellow human beings. I think so much of that has been lost and I applaud you for your thoughts. I’ve been through my own struggles and I am now blind and have lost a leg but I continue to try to help others. Use the gifts that G-d has given you to make this world a better place. By the way, your new guitar sounds very nice.

one important thing about guitars is - they must suit the player. This guitar suits you perfectly, it fits your playing just right. I can see/hear how you interact with it, and very nice/gentle/emotional playing, too. Listening to the instrument while playing it is the key. And thank you for the important words on training our courage to help others. Keep it up. Cheers from germany

it was interesting to hear your story about katrina. i went on a mission trip to help clean up/rebuild after katrina to bay st louis. it was a very heavy trip to go there and see the total destruction, there werent even very many locals left in the area. played guitar for the first time in front of a crowd at the food tent set up by the mennonite church, ill never forget that. i've always wondered how that town recovered in the years following, have to return there for a po'boy. bought my daughter a d-15 that is so incredible sounding, love that mahogany!!! great video!!!

Great looking and sounding D-17! I think you got a great deal at $1000, especially considering their limited production and unique appointments. FWIW, that guitar has the same mortise and tenon neck joint and hybrid A-frame X bracing as the 16 series at that time. The style 17 first showed up in Martin’s catalog in 1874 with rosewood b/s and a spruce top. It disappeared in 1898 and was reintroduced in 1906 with mahogany b/s and a spruce top and stayed until 1916. Style 17 returned in 1922 as the all mahogany version that stuck around in various sizes and configurations until it was discontinued (except by special order) in 1960. Fast forward to 2000 when the all mahogany style 17 was reintroduced as a deluxe version of the extremely successful modern 15 series with an initial offering of the D-17 and the 00-17 full gloss models. They used the more sophisticated 16 series hybrid scalloped A-frame bracing, as opposed to the simpler 1 series bracing on the 15 series. Both the 15 and 17 series used the same glued mortise and tenon neck joint that was originally introduced in the 1 series construction and continued in the 16 series. The “bolt” in that joint can be found under the plate on the neck block that has the model and serial number on it. The bolt was used during production to clamp the m/t neck joint while the glue dried and left in place both to save time and to reinforce the neck joint. If you want confirmation of this information, I suggest you check the book Martin Guitars: A Technical Reference by Richard Johnston and Dick Boak pages 57 and 118. D-17 production totals are on page 264. I share your love of all things Martin, and the more unusual all mahogany Martins in particular. I own: J12-15 D-15S 000-15 (An early example with no rosewood head plate and the back is actually quilted mahogany!) 00-15S custom 12 fret with 16 series bracing, Waverly tuners, bone nut/saddle and a real inlaid herringbone rosette 5-15 Terz guitar

I loved your story! I also went down to help out after Katrina! I just finished a 16 month deployment to Iraq and one of my best friends that I deployed with was from New Orleans. Instead of coming back to Indiana to see my family, I decided to go down with my friend to help his family. I'll never forget those images of devastation that are basically burned into my brain. It was pretty crazy to come home from Iraq and see what I was witnessing in our own country. I felt so bad for my friend's family. They were definitely lower than middle class, so they struggled before the hurricane. Katrina took every little bit that they had, but the important thing was the fact they all survived it. Because the only possession that really matters in times like that and it's your family/support system being intact! My friend has since passed away but I, still to this day, stay in touch with his family. They now live in Houston Texas and have came a very long way. Once again, I really enjoyed this video and your channel is one of my favorites on here! I wish you and your family well, sir!

I picked up a used (but in perfect condition) Martin J12-15 12-string mahogany (satin finish) about 10 years ago from the Guitar Center in Boise, ID. With the full mahogany body, it is still the most beautiful guitar I own. It has a soft, sweet sound that blends perfectly with my D-28 (which I have owned for about 30 years). Your D17 has that same sweet tone and gorgeous mahogany body (and I do love the gloss finish). Good find!

Love the rich sound of that guitar! I recently purchased a 400 series Taylor, and although I really do enjoy playing it, it does tend to lack that full low end that rattles right through your body as you play! As a result, I still do have my sights set on a nice Martin…..

When you played that guitar at the end of the video, after your brilliant Gulf Coast story it was one of the most beautiful sounding instruments I've heard on any KZbin video ever. I think mahogany topped guitars make you work a little bit, you have to be in the moment more then they just let you have it. I think I want one. 🖖

I agree about what you say about mahogany. I play quiet a lot, and love a acoustic with built in volume control. Spruce can be way too loud even with a light touch for my style. I love my mahogany guitars. Such a rounded sound and when you really get on em they open up and get loud without the sound thinning out. Its natures perfect eq sound imo.

Hey Jeremy, Love your channel. I had a D19 that I got rid of years ago and have been looking for one ever since. (not interested in buying one back from Japan) The D17 is the Closest thing to the 1977 D19 that I let go. D-17s are definitely nice guitars, but you're right about them not being for everyone. My own preference is spruce and rosewood, though I have played some guitars with koa or walnut back and sides that I've really liked! One of the best guitars I've ever played was a friend's Huss & Dalton D-RH. It was one of those special guitars that almost played itself. Unfortunately, my friend no longer has it. He's one of those guys who's always chasing after "the sound," which he has yet to find. The good thing for me is that I've gotten to play some amazing guitars: a Martin D-28 Marquis, a Mossman, a Collings, and a couple of 70s era D-18s and D-28s.

Funny. I accidently bought one. I thought I was getting a D17M. I had no idea there was a previous model. It's a great guitar for strumming, but too dark for finger picking for my ear, so I ended up getting a D17M too. I use the D17 for alternate tuning strummed songs. Sounds rich and gorgeous for that.

My pastor has one of these and it’s beautiful, I was playing it the other day and I noticed a huge bad crack on the back of the guitar, it looks as if someone ran into or dropped it, when I saw it my hart just sank, it wasn’t me that broke it but it’s still a beautiful guitar

Did some hurricane relief work after Katrina, was gulf coast Mississippi for 3 and a half years, mostly in the Biloxi, gulfport area, while I was there found some of the best pawn shop finds of my life, an 81 tobacco les paul custom for 900 bucks, a high end Alvarez Yairi for 250, a roland re 555 space echo sold as is, for 185 bucks (nothing wrong with it except a 3 dollar pinch roller replacement, etc..etc..some amazing finds

I LOVE the OG D-17s. I saw one used about 10 years ago for $650 in a local shop, and I declined, even though I loved it. I was saving for a Breedlove that I always wanted. I ended up getting that Breedlove and absolutely hating it. I called up the shop if they had that Martin, and it was gone. That's one that still pokes at me, and it's been 10 years! I too was so mad when the reintroduced it only to have too many special things changed about it. Super bummer.

I like what you said about people suffering after Katrina and what you did. My wife and I were due to fly to New Orleans for that week and decided at the last minute to cancel and head south of us to our place in Pagosa Colorado

I had a 2003 Martin 000-15. From what I remember It had a dovetail neck joint according to spec at the time. When did Martin decide to use their "simple dovetail" (aka modified M&T) on 15, 16 and 17 series? This would be good info for when I go to buy a used one
I flew to Missouri to hang with @AcousticShoppe and WASN'T disappointed!
