I’d have to say the quantity of sandpaper wasn’t weird. 3 grits and 3 of each is how you get to 9. At least based off of what you said it comes with. If it came with 4 grits and they sent 9, yeah really weird. But to me not so much as it is now.

Huge fan of the M12 line. I repair/restore furniture and their lineup is amazing. I have the detail sander and use it regularly. With some larger restorations, the detail sander gets overwhelmed. The new sander is random orbital and the older one is just "orbital" that means the pad doesn't also spin. The spinning action is intended to give you a less swirly finish and will remove material faster. If you don't need the pointy pad the new one is the way to go for all of the above reasons

A (close) cordless version of the Festool Rotex 90 at a lower price! But I hate *investing* into yet another battery system when my workshop is full of yellow and black tools! It doesn’t have the RO 90’s triangular pad for corners and tight spots and the different sanding pattern optimized for it. So you’d still want the “home plate” shaped pad on the additional Milwaukee detail sander which doesn’t have dust collection. Also missing is no additional Rotex functionality on the round pads for rapid stock removal. There’s a question if the smaller diameter 3” round pad would start to dish a surface where you sand unevenly or vary the pressure. The Festool RO 90 is slightly larger by 1/2”. The smaller diameter pad is probably a limitation of the cordless motor that has less power to conserve batteries. Hmmmm. I like the new Milwaukee but it’s not as multifunctional as the Festool. The Festool has a cord, but you’re still tethered by the dust extraction hose and auto on/off with the dust extractor anyways. Since I don’t like compromising 0:30 I’m leaning towards the Festool RO 90 but am cringing at the $525 cost + around $250 for the pile of specialty sandpaper in (2) different shapes (Round and Triangular). “Buy once cry once”?

Milwaukee is killing it with these sanders, especially the Homeplate version. The major problem these brands have is that once you've purchased one of their cordless tools, you're committed to that brand (unless you have money to burn, or a VERY unique need for a specific tool). When some genius creates a universal high-quality batter that fits any of these brands, or an adapter that allows it, then we'll have reached the pinnacle of woodworking. Till then, I'll settle for a straight 2X4, which apparently is equally hard to find.
@chadfallon33784 ай бұрын
Hello @phillamoore157, there companies that make adapters for all the major tool brands so you could technically use one battery platform for multiple branded tools. Not sure if their performance is less when using an adapter, but it is possible to run.
@phillamoore1574 ай бұрын
@@chadfallon3378 Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I’ve seen some of those. So, far they’re the cheap Chinese adapters, that can’t be relied on, or worse yet, hurt the batteries themselves. You won’t find a quality adapter due to all the patents. Just too many hoops for a legitimate product to jump through, unfortunately. I can’t whine about DeWalt…their tools have treated me well. But, it’s also disappointing that their R&D seems WAY behind Milwaukee’s, at least on some levels. And, the problems I’ve had with their batteries failing, apparently have happened to all the companies. With Lithium, you have to use them, they can’t just sit on a shelf, or they’ll stop holding their charge. I had that problem with two $120 batteries early on. Thankfully, I haven’t had that issue in quite a while. So, for now I’m stuck with the ol’ yellow and black. 👍

Milwaukee is trying with this sander but fails. 3'' pad with vertical space needed off the chart with huge handle hanging off it. I see no place for it for me maybe if I sanded walls or something the handle and overall design would work but so would a 5 inch of any sort beat it. Idea hang the battery on a belt make the unit turning the tiny pad as small and simple form as possible. Then you will have a tool that sees a place doing work in tight areas always the worst to sand.

Howdy Mr. 731... Another cool video. You have definitely found your Nitche in tool reviews. I think it's cool that some of these companies are making smaller sanders for "Detail" work. That being said...They are still Bulky for what they are and the "Micro" battery for whatever reason costs just as much as a regular battery. What's up with that? And let's not forget the weight of it all. So, all in all, it's still a bit clunky IMHO. Now, you know I've been watching you for years now, even met ya and The Mrs. and had both of you Autograph my Dewalt sander....Now...all that being said.....I've noticed that you haven't done any Tool reviews (at least none I can think of atm) about DREMEL TOOLS. Why is that? I highly recommend you look into a tool by DREMEL called The Dremel VERSA. It's a tool that fits in the palm of your hand, literally. Orbital disc. Multiple applications but typically designed to be used with a scrubbing pad of various grits AND, it's USB chargeable. NO BATTERIES. No cords and the charge lasts a fairly good time. I haven't charged mine in months and still has power (I just checked). Though this tool is designed for, say, scrubbing dishes or the sink or bathtub.....The pads....with an inventive mind (me), you can toss on some sandpaper OR, while keeping the pads attached, you can wrap a soft cloth around those pads, add a rubber band to hold in place and now ya got a MICRO BUFFER. Add a bit of bees wax and Viola... I know that you aren't much into the micro tools too much...Don't even know if you own a Dremel....But I do believe that you are leaving alot on the plate by not diving into the Dremel line of tools. After all, you are always asking for "Tool Review" ideas. You could make LOTS of videos discussing Dremel tools and accessories. Anyways....Go get yourself The Versa at very least. Try it out.
