@sparklesparklebee2 жыл бұрын
to answer your questions: 1. The "real" Istanbul is wherever locals genuinely like to spend their time in, the historical peninsula you were in is mostly catered towards tourists. We prefer places like kadıköy, beşiktaş, moda or bağdat caddesi. if you go further out of the historical peninsula, that's when you start to see "real istanbul". 2. That "random Turkish guy" is Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder and the first president of modern secular Türkiye. You were probably there after the 10th of November, his day of passing, so that's why you saw many photos of him. 3. The dressed up kid told you he just came back from a wedding. And then his friends were making you say "son of a bitch" in Turkish to him, so the kid asked you "you want me to fuck him up?" 4. That mystery meat is kokoreç, made from the intestines of a cow. Usually if you find a legit place it is pretty good and clean. I'm just suprised you didn't get food poisoning from that tiny street cart. 5. The wrap is called çiğ köfte dürüm, which is made out of fine grain bulgur and naturally is vegan. Also that street looked pretty "real" with a lot of locals. 6. yes, unfortunately because of the recent drop of the turkish lira and the economical crisis that is still going on, poverty is the "real istanbul" at the moment. 7. turkish people in general are unhinged, in a good way mostly so i'm not suprised by the people you come by. 8. those guns being there is highly illegal if they are being sold without a permit lol, there isn't a big gun culture tbh found you on instagram btw, hope you enjoyed istanbul overall !!

i must say im an american i got stuck in istanbul for 36 hours once and i ended up in that same park from your intro, slamming back turkish vodka at 3am knowing i had to wait until 3pm to get into my room... the amount of hassling you receive when they see a white guy walking around there is insane, but i got into the hagia sophia at 5am (there was a 500m line at noon), it was fucking intense going in there with nobody around, just me and about 10 other old dudes in the men's only section.. was a pretty fucking holy experience. i met some really nice women in the park and ended up touring the palace after being awake 25+ hours.. that 24 hour block just running around istanbul with my backpack was better than the entire 3 weeks i spent there in the tourist trap parts of turkiye leeching off my rich friend

the hotelier in the little place we stayed in Istanbul set us up at a Hammam in one of the outlying districts of the city. Pretty much the "real" Istanbul.... the big burly guy who gave me a massage nearly tore my arms off but oh it hurt so good. My partner and I were separated and she went into the female section of the Hammam where she danced with the women there. When she was done, she waited for me on the steps outside the male section and the workers were quite panicked when they came to tell me that she was waiting outside.... not appropriate, I guess! The Turkish people were the most accommodating and authentically caring people we've ever met on our travels. The day after we left the huge demonstrations (2013) began...

One of them asks "Should I teach you Turkish?", after Connor tries to repeat after her she goes "You know it already?? Ahh you don't know!" After Connor talks about the places he's been in Istanbul, she again goes "Ohh you know it already!" Then it cuts to them talking about how he has a Turkish face and the girl who ran to get his Instagram says that she looks like him. They part ways saying "Say hi to your friends&family in your country" To answer the question Connor asks right after, Muslims are not polyamorous AT ALL lmao.
