Sorry but i love grease 2 and Xanadu. My granddaughter goes around the house singing songs from it also. I didn't put her up to it. I just turned the movie on one day and she came into the room singing and joined me watching it. Then came to find out she loves Xanadu also. That's my girl

I fell in love with ONJ watching this and, in fact, my wife was named after ONJ.

Went on opening night in New York. The audience reaction was like that in "The Producers" when the audience first watches "Springtime for Hitler". Although the music was actually popular, the film was an immediate catastrophe. Still is.

The music is amazing. I’m just so perplexed as to how they convinced Gene Kelly to be in this movie.

Xanadu is a horrible movie and that's why I absolutely LOVE it. I used to have questions, but, ONJ made it worth it and I decided to ditch the questions and get lost in the wackiness.

OMG that review was hilarious. 😂 I knew this was supposed to be a pretty bad film, but I didn't realize how bad it actually is. This was very entertaining to watch. 😁 BTW, who's the big sexy guy at 9:42 and what movie is this scene from?? WOOF!!

I like the movie, mainly for nostalgia I guess, but the true star of Xanadu is the soundtrack. It's great.

You should definitely do a video on the bizarre, barely-even-a-sequel that is Grease 2, and one about the stupid comedy genius of VelociPastor. Also you’re making me wanna rewatch this movie even though I hate it haha

Three fun bits of trivia about "Xanadu": (1) Gene Kelly's character was named Danny McGuire. This is the same name as a character he played in "Cover Girl" in 1944, and they're meant to be the same character. So "Xanadu" is kind of a sequel! (2) This is the movie that inspired the creation of the Golden Raspberry Awards. (3) A stage adaptation actually had a successful Broadway run in 2007-08. It played up the cheese more than the movie.

I love Xanadu! Much better than grease imo. The music is absolutely stunning! And all the neon colors and and lights, is just so magical! The story of a muse giving inspiration to a struggling artist who falls in love is just so cute! I'll love this film forever!

Part of the reason this movie wasn't the greatest was because of the guy who played the leading man (Michael Beck). His acting was the absolute WORST I've ever seen.

Another great video essay, Chloe. Xanadu had a promising premise, but mediocre execution. It might have been better had the focus been on Gene Kelly's character.

Was alive and well when this came out - went to see it (having been told by friends it was bad) just to see the scene in the clothing store which was the L.A. Fiorucci - Fiorucci was at the time the coolest store in the world, the New York one was sometimes called the daytime Studio 54. Their items were a mix of preppy combined with New Wave, a peculiar moment in the evolution of street fashion but that was topical to the 70s merging into the 80s. The polyester Saturday Night Fever disco look has no presence in this movie even though only a few years had passed. The club scene at the end of Xanadu is a mishmash of too many elements that are perilously close to extremely irritating. And despite the praise heaped on the music it does nothing to offset the quality of the movie in general.

The soundtrack is fantastic. If you watch a series of music videos, it's much more enjoyable. I made my parents take me when it opened. I was a big Olivia fan, and I was 9.

This is an absolutely boffo soundtrack that got attached to a zany movie with Olivia Newton John and Gene Kelly (and Roller Disco Jazz dancing!) and somehow made money. MTV liked it, and it sold a lot of records. And ELO did the soundtrack! Never watched the movie, and I never have been able to find the soundtrack.

I.loved XANADU... It wasn't perfect but was an attempt to revive the old school Hollywood musical.... Olivia Newton John was lovely and wonderful ...gene Kelly was phenomenal .. the story wasn't supposed to be complicated....if you can enjoy a film without such over analysis and accept it as a fantasy comedy musical. You might actually enjoy it

Used to love this film as a kid.... Soundtrack was decent enough Its not the worst film .... Hell, Grease 2 (imho) was terrible But.... BUT.... "HP Lovecraft's The Tomb" (2007) is one of the worst all time films I dare you to try and get through the first 30 minutes..... Other bad films... sorta... If it weren't for Betsy Russell "bouncing" through the film... (ahhh) then "Private School" would be a terrible film. Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker was so bad you need a "wayfinder" to find your way out of the theater before it stains your soul. Pretty much any "Woke" film is going to dominate the top 10 list of worst films... i.e the Ghostbusters all female team Scooby Doo film That stupid Charlies Angels reboot with the stuck up actresses Then there is Battlefield Earth. ONG Let me stop here before this gets even worse

Let me be clear, this film was made to show off ONJ, but all it did was highlight that she as little to no charisma as a leading actress. This would be proven when you see that after one more film (a reteam with JT in Two Of A Kind) she became a character actress (It's My Party, Sordid Lives), while her singing career skyrocketed (Physical). I found the film good because I self medicated, and the soundtrack is gr8. As is the soundtrack for Sordid Lives. As for the chaos in the final song, the idea--it seems to me--was to create a club where EVERYBODY is welcome, where they can roller skate (very popular fad at the time) or dance various dances to various types of films. Also, the song portion that is like a song style battle (ONJ sings 40s Big Band while the TUBES sing PUNK rock) is a highlight. The country portion is a nod to ONJ's original American audience (If You Love Me, and Let Me Be There).
