I love the fact if the main character had shown any decency and asked the lady where she was going, maybe they could share, she would have ended up in a cab ride with this super important broadway lady and had time to chat her up and probably seal her career in the other direction.

No there were several categories. The 3 little kids (2 of which who were doing a starlift) are the under 8s whereas the main team are in another category Jamie left out a very funny fact that the little boy wasn't even really on the team he was left their by his parents as free daycare and in one of the many competitions the 2 little girls freeze and he comes onto the stage dancing to like save them ig (cus obvs he knows the moves from watching them) and then is just included

Same thing happened to be, but it was when I was in first grade, and it was my school teacher. It made the rest of my childhood so much more difficult than it had to be because I felt SO inferior to everyone else. I was so painfully shy, it made it so I had an incredibly difficult time making friends. Heck, I was even diagnosed with Asperger’s and put on a few different antidepressants/anti-anxiety meds as a teenager. It was a complete misdiagnosis, as I eventually developed my social skills to an acceptable level. No one who knows me now would ever guess all of this was true about me. But yeah, I suspect it largely boiled down to me having been traumatized by my teacher.

❤️❤️❤️ I am so sorry you had to go through that... I can relate that by my own experience, and know you aren't alone. This is both meant to let you know I get you and sooo many people in here get you too which I good for us but it SUCKS that children have to be put through this and I was by my first grade teacher in 1975. I had just turned 6. She was a special kind of evil. It was my first school experience and it ruined my outlook on school and trust but THANK goodness m second grade teacher who shared a bathroom for us little ones made sure I was in her class. She was the polar opposite. However it had serious repercussions for years and years and I am happy to say that at the age of 54 I'm finally learning how to heal my inner child and I think that comedy and laughter is one of the best forms of medicine and community I love how Jaime is not a bully she's been there gone through it done it and has brought us all together on here ❤️

As a mom of a Hard of Hearing child, I wanted to note a few things 😬 1st, that girl actually is deaf. I'm surprised her mom was ok with what Sofia's character said in the movie (or maybe she wasn't). 2) My daughter is HoH, and had 3 fully deaf kids on her cheerleading squad. If Sofia's character knew literally ANYTHING about dance, she would know that you dance in counts, and they don't need to be able to hear the music. Someone completely dropped the ball with that one. It was pretty abelist, tbh. Just wanted to point that out 😄

Not that I'm expecting proper research from Netflix show runners in this day and age anymore, but that's definitely messed up 😩 How can you not acknowledge something so important to dance culture when making a *dance movie* ?! Has anyone from the writing team ever been involved with dance at all? Ugh! I'd eveb bet the girl's mom told them but they were too lazy to rewrite any of the script because how could they get away with ableist remarks otherwise?

Maybe it was to add to the main character being ridiculously insufferable, and also for people who have that thought to understand that deaf/HOH people can dance. It seems to me like the movie treats the kids as props just like April does in her first dance with them. It doesn't care about the deaf girl, or Ruby wanting to dance, or Sarah and her grief or her chicken cutlet, they're only there so that April can "earn" her redemption by helping the team, so once April gets her life in New York and her boyfriend back, the movie doesn't need them anymore and just drops them.
@kristenlandon796
@kristenlandon796 Жыл бұрын
Yes, agreed! My thought was like the world only revolves around April and she gets rewarded for “coming back” -a tiny step in the right direction- but not owning up to her problems or growing up, to say the least. And yes, the kids felt like props in more ways than one. 😏 👎

Kinda sort of reminds me of the really horrible bad reality shows Dance Moms & Honey Boo Boo. They weren't funny cuz they were actually exploiting kids and the so called moms and adults were atrocious. They were hurting not just their own children but creating bullies and condoning it to hurt other children. Generational Mean Girls for sure. Not entertaining at all. Sorry didn't mean to be a Dawnie Downer. I was bullied horrifically 6th- 1st Semester of my freshman year.vsi bad I gave my parents an ultimatum of moving back to our home town with them or without them. My "disability" is learning, & short term memory problems. I am a 70's 80's kid and a young " adult" in the 90's. My Cousin used to teach sign language and was an interpreter back starting back in the late 1970' s. She still is an interpreter but had to retire from teaching for health reasons. She taught me so much and is such a inspiration. A friend of mine was born to both of her parents being completely deaf since birth . She had no hearing issues. She is an interpreter out on the west coast. I have so much respect for anyone who dedicates their lives to making a positive life for children and for anyone who is born with, or by a illness or accident with a loss of any ability like this. Tough, resilient, smart and beautiful. ❤️❤️❤️

I honestly like the fact that April has no empathy for anyone, because it's realistic. I had a dance teacher in school that really didn't like me for some reason, and she always ignored how hard I tried and shoved me in the back for no one to see. I like this movie because I find it really funny, but the whole section with those little girls twerking reminded me so much of that one Dance Mom's dance, which was lowkey *really* gross and didn't need to be included in the movie, like you said, it had no actual plot and it was for humor, but it doesn't make it any less weird. I really like this movie though because I like how we get to see the girls actually improve, but my main issue with it are the scene cuts. I re-watched it not too long ago and I noticed how weird the cuts are. One minute they're at some minor competition and the next they're at this big-league dance competition? It makes no sense, but I get why a lot of people didn't like this movie. But I like the whole story because April (kind of) improves her behavior and begins to be a role model for the kids. I'm biased though, because I love the whole scene where Dicky does the dance with them even though he wasn't a part of the team, and how he was the one being lifted in that one scene and his dad was really proud. I also like how that little girl who worked at the dance studio got to resolve things with her mum, I liked the whole "plot twist" that her mum didn't know about it because I didn't expect that when I first watched, but it made sense that she used to forge the letters so she could go to the competitions because I knew girls who had to do that because their parents didn't know what it was. I do agree though about the whole dad's 'being painted in a better lighting' because one of the directors DEFO had daddy issues whilst writing it, or they're just misogynistic.

I worked with a traveling dance competition company and the scene where all the girls are inappropriately dancing is sadly accurate. It didn't happen much but it happened more than it should cause it shouldn't happen at all. It also didn't help because to make it worse there had to be a secret security team monitoring to make sure that the parents and family are the only ones there because we had pedophiles come through and try and gain access.

YES! The cuteness of the dads’ support strikes viewers are special because it’s considered unfamiliar or abnormal in the tea world, but you are precisely right- it should be normal! Still special but not unusual. Dads need to be encouraged to participate & support, yet I feel like this film made them cute to women but probably pretty unattractive / bothersome to men, though I don’t know how many men would watch this anyway.

My dad came to every single one of my dance recitals for the 14 years I danced and even learned how to do my hair (he was terrible at it, but he wanted to learn in case something happened to my mom one day). When I was an adult he finally told me that he got teased/bullied relentlessly by his all-male coworkers for being involved in my dance life, but said he never let it get to him.

The only thing I really hate about Jaime’s movie review videos is, I’ve watched them all already. Some more than once. So every time there’s a new one, I’m happy, but then I’m bummed when it’s over because I know I have to wait for the next one and I hate waiting. 4/5 stars since this is my review and my lack of patience makes me cranky.

No, I think that's normal. If you're crying over it then maybe something's amiss but it seems most sane viewers hated the main character and were rooting for the children that got overshadowed and crapped on most of the runtime. Isn't that what a lot of movies do nowsadays? I understand the unlikable/unrelatable/terrible MC but usually halfway or towards the end, we used to have those MCs be redeemed or learnt their lessons. But now they are rewarded without having to improve or change themselves. It's like people who are making films now take the whole 'unapologetically being myself' to heart; not understanding that being an unapologetic arsehole isn't something to be proud of or applauded.

Ah Jaime says "A grown woman bullied her out of class," like thats an unusual thing. 🙃 Also, I will kind of defend the way they wrote the parents. Dance moms are REAL. But dads being involved is kinda rare, so if they were involved it would be, I would think, because they are being genuinely supportive.

Every time you talk about an awful dance movie, I remember Teenage Dream. It's about a girl in highschool who is a dancer or a gymnast or something like that, but she had an accident so she cant compete anymore. I have no memories of the plot, but I do remember that: - At nights she goes to a empty factory to dance with her friend the security guy - Keanu Reeves plays the highschool freak who is into her and eventually becomes her boyfriend and there's a lot of super weird moments. - Every now and then the whole movie is interrupted by a 80's videoclip style montage of the girl dancing (the movie is from 1986) I hope someday you watch it and review it, I think you'll love that trip 😂
